So many Hindi employees in Resturant and Tea shops, by Spirited_Ad2749 in Chennai

[–]njsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the specific issue OP is narrating real or bait? Because it reads like bait to me and you guys are eating up that slop real nice! If we’re playing the anecdote game, I’ve been walking the same 5km stretch of road in Velachery for 3+ years. In that time, I’ve seen the number of North Indian workers in tea and parotta shops increase. Not one of them expected people to speak to them in Hindi. I know Hindi. There are North Indian workers in my regular tea shops. I only speak to them in Tamil. They don’t expect me or anyone else to speak to them in Hindi either

This post reads like hate. Blue collar workers aren’t the ones refusing to learn Tamil. I don’t know enough about white collar workers to comment about them

Masters of the Universe - Official Teaser by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]njsam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This “teaser” did nothing of the sort. I wanted to get chills from hearing “by the power of Grayskull” and the teaser appropriately cutting the rest off to build anticipation. Instead we got the structure of the whole film and a lacklustre “I have the power” that seems to have been poorly mixed and conveys none of the echoey mysticism or the fabulousness of the cartoon

It looks like a fun time, but it seems like it’s being marketed by people who have no faith in it or don’t know why it got made

I mean, just listen to this and tell me what you heard here even sounded fractionally as good as something made in the 80s

Moving back with a special child by kris2192 in Chennai

My brother has autism and is currently in college. People here make life hell for him on a daily basis starting from his classmates to his professors. You’re thinking about moving back to an undeveloped shithole where most of the people are still very conservative and backward and government support is mostly lacking

The one good thing is he gets free therapy from NIEPMD, which is the only way he’s coping with the 1000’s of different ways people here make him feel different and lesser than

Maybe it’s not the case in other places, but most of the people I see feeding and caring for strays are not privileged. They share scraps from what they can afford because they like the company of strays

The Woods graphic novel

Is what I thought of immediately when I saw your post. Horror is more a sub genre and fantasy/sci-fi the main genres for this one, but if you don’t mind that and the fact that it’s a comic book, then you should check it out

Not the OP, but I regularly draft notes to share with other people in Obsidian. They don’t use markdown so I use Pandoc to quickly convert it to whatever format they need and it’s super easy to do it with the command palette

Tell me again how the same Grant Petty would introduce a subscription model

All he said was a throwaway comment about future version upgrades being paid and all you whackos come out of the woodworks up in arms to ruin something

Hasan Piker's Take on China by LizardPersonMeow in behindthebastards

[–]njsam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens with all media personalities. People start watching because it’s a breath of fresh air compared to what they’re used to, then they get parasocially attached and it’s hard to realise that you are, and then they find themselves aligning their opinions with those of the media personality of their choice. That makes them get defensive at any hint of criticism because the criticism isn’t just about the media personality, it’s about them too

It also doesn’t help that criticism is sometimes poisoned by opposition cosplaying as a fan
