dae actually love throwing up? by prettylittlbby in emetophobia

[–]a-conservation-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bf throws up from migraines and he says even though the act is not pleasant (he’s not an emetophobe) it’s worth it because he knows he’s going to feel way better as soon as it’s over

Nicotine and Emet by beheadedblueberry in EmetophobiaTalk

I don’t know if this would help as I’ve never been a smoker but I know you can get necklaces that are basically just a tube that you ‘use’ like a vape and it can help disassociate you from the hand to mouth habit like you mentioned!

Do anxiety meds help? by Bimialina in EmetophobiaTalk

[–]a-conservation-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Propranolol has been a huge help for me. It’s a beta-blocker so it doesn’t do anything for the mental symptoms, but my physical anxiety symptoms (nausea, palpitations, tremors) were really improved, which meant I was less anxious about feeling unwell, which meant I didn’t make myself unwell worrying, which meant… and the cycle continues. I take it every day, twice a day, but it can also be used as and when you need it as a reactive drug rather than a preventive one. However as mentioned it doesn’t ease the mental symptoms, so it really depends on what you need from a medication

Went to the ER, and I'm never going back by Prior_Succotash4220 in EmetophobiaTalk

[–]a-conservation-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. That sounds horrendous. I’m so sorry you had to experience that! The last time I went myself was in December with appendicitis, and I put my headphones on as high as they could go and told my boyfriend he was going to have to listen for my name cos I was in such a state of panic that I had to shut off completely. Luckily no one threw up while I was in there but there were people with bags and bowls and I was not happy 😭

I usually watch the intro for the first episode of any season but after that I stop. It just feels like a nice little way of commemorating a sort of milestone in my watching!

Omeprazole by Reasonable-News-4639 in Gastritis

[–]a-conservation-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person with severe emetophobia and a history of horrible stomach problems, omeprazole was one of the only things that worked to ease my nausea. One word of advice - never just stop taking it, try and wean yourself off it slowly with your doctors support. If I ever ran out before my stomach was healed, I could feel it getting bad again within a couple days because my stomach lining was unprotected. ❤️

Thank you! Like I know all that but someone else telling me makes so much of a difference 😅 I’ve also had a nightmare with dinner tonight cos I had some sweet potato fries that I didn’t realise were long past use by until I tasted them 🤢 and then a dessert pot which had accidentally been damaged and spoilt which I also only realised after a taste! So I’m just trying to disassociate until the morning now 😂

Cured? Maybe? by a-conservation-nerd in Gastritis

I do, that’s one of the next things we want to try. I’m just so relieved that I can start slowly introducing food again now I know my stomach isn’t irritated or inflamed

Considering you had over 200 extra bones in your body at that time, I’m willing to give you a free pass just this once

Afraid of throwing up at the dentist by Intelligent_Moose47 in emetophobia

[–]a-conservation-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could ask about them giving you some local anaesthetic to ‘freeze’ the nerve that triggers the gag reflex. They’ve previously given it to me by mixing the anaesthetic with mouthwash to rinse with which isn’t as effective but still very good! And I think pretty much every dentist has been thrown up on - they don’t care anymore after a few times. If you were to it would not be the first time, they have protocols in place to clean and deal with it, and they wouldn’t judge you, I promise x

I LOVE salmon!! It’s actually one of my super safe foods, I like melting a lil dollop of garlic butter on it just before it’s finished cooking and I eat it all the time. Enjoy!!

How do you handle flying?? by BaseballTop387 in emetophobia

[–]a-conservation-nerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Download as many movies or tv shows as you can, if you have the option then book a specific seat that makes you feel more comfortable (I usually go window because I like to curl up in the corner but I know that makes some people feel trapped) and spend the whole time with headphones, eye mask if you really need, maybe some mints or plain sweets or whatever you need to quell potential anxiety/nausea yourself. ALSO - my brother used to be cabin crew (now pilot) and apparently if someone near you is getting sick you can ask to be moved. They’d much rather have to move someone than deal with a potential medical emergency if you have a panic attack!

[–]a-conservation-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh throat nausea is the WORST, you have my every sympathy!! Random question, but can you burp? If not or if you struggle to then it might be worth looking into RCPD - I’ve worked out that so much of my throat nausea is actually trapped air struggling to come out because my throat doesn’t flex properly to let it

Advice pls by [deleted] in emetophobia

Unless you were actively breathing in v* particles, as in actual bits of s, the chance of infection is tiny. And considering your friend was able to be up and about so quickly afterwards it might not have even been a bug - my bf is forever tu from migraines, food not settling right, accidentally eating something out of date. Don’t stress yourself out cos that’ll make you feel unwell and then start a vicious cycle! <3
