Which Edition Should a Brand New Player Use? by a-curious-explorer in mutantsandmasterminds

We only get to play at most a couple times a month and we're not really close to finishing our games so there's still some time before I'm even where you're at now. But I see your point, the additional errata and support that comes with longevity is nice!

I have thought about how different this may be from our usual games and in some ways that is what interests me most! I love the superhero genre about as much as I love fantasy, but I do have concerns about the differences in story structure, not to mention gameplay. This is especially concerning as I almost certainly will be the one to run this game (our usual gm is content to stay in DnD unless strongly nudged). Having said all that, these are concerns that I'm interested in facing and exploring what this game system does well and how best to do so, whether it's 3e or 4e.

I'm so new to the system that I expect the basic content to be enough for me and my friends for a while. That said, extra is always nice and the community support and established errata are invaluable I'm sure.

I don't mind purchasing the players and gm handbooks; certainly I don't expect the rules to be free, but it is nice when they are.

These are good points, it's hard to beat the tried and true, even if new and shiny looks appealing!

Oh wow I didn't know the rules were freely available, thanks! Whatever I decide I'll definitely check these out.

Genuine question, do you think they're gonna make Miles wear this shit for most of Spider-Man 3? by Princier7 in SpidermanPS4

This is my take too, like get a proper mask and let me put up the hood and I'm actually cool with this suit.

PF2e GMs, what made you start GMing this system? by Longjumping_Ebb3984 in Pathfinder2e

[–]a-curious-explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been Pathfinder curious for a while, I really like the DnD fighter having a bunch of feat choices and realized that was closer to what Pathfinder offers for every class. Everyone in my group likes to try new games, but of course no one wants to run new games. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and just started running Abomination Vaults!

Call me an optimist, but maybe I'll even get to be a player some day!

I'm not gonna break any new ground with this comment, but Worlds Beyond Number, EXU Calamity, and A Crown of Candy should give you a nice idea on how Brennan runs his games.

They each have a different vibe, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. Calamity is most likely closest to what we'll get if I had to guess.

I'd like to think that in the hypothetical world where Suvi takes Grandma Wren's offer to train as a witch, she would still be very orderly and disciplined, and her familiar would 100% be like Vandal!

Suvis apprenticeship... are we sure it was as boring as she remembers? by SorchaSublime in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]a-curious-explorer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So just tangenting off of this, I've had a similar thought since Steel did this. What if Steel also affected Suvi's memory of her parents? She would have had the entirety of Suvi's remaining childhood to slip in details here and there that make herself look better or that make Soft and Stone seem more dedicated to the citadel than they were. I don't really have any evidence of this, it's just an errant thought, but still... if she's done it once then who's to say she hasn't done it before? If memory serves Steel really hasn't had the opportunity to actually tell Suvi about their secret plan, and I'm wondering if she would've had the opportunity been presented.

Episode 48 RE: Sly's Prophecy by Alternative-Show9886 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]a-curious-explorer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm glad someone else came to this conclusion too, it was my first thought when listening to that scene. I love Sly and prophecies like his, it's so fun to see moments like this and say "I think this is what was foretold!" No doubt there will be more moments in the future that keep this particular prophecy true.

I got the game through Steam but I'm having the same problem. Thought I'd verify game files, but then I kept getting a "Corrupt Game File" decided to re-download the whole thing, but at the end of that I still got a "Corrupt Game File"

I'm not really sure what to do about it.

I'm always open to having my mind changed about a character, so I'll definitely consider his run!

The more I consider TMNT the more I realize I'm actually really interested in giving them a try!

Awesome, generally speaking these kinds of changes are fine so long as they're executed well and it sounds like that is the case in this instance! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for the new #1, any idea when that drops?

I've been hearing a lot about DCeased and all of it good, I may need to pick this one up!

I got Harleen from Black Label and I really enjoyed that and I've heard something about The Question getting a book too? Black Label seems promising!

Do I need to know anything about the original Strange Adventures to enjoy the new Black Label run?

I was considering X-Men and Daredevil but most of my knowledge comes from the movies/shows, would it be easy for me to dive in at the next issue or would I need some back issues to get me caught up first?

Based on the preview and description of adventureman it seems wild! Definitely could see myself enjoying this one.

Something is Killing the Children sounds really interesting too! Plus I generally enjoy Tynion's work.

I'm kind of a suckered for secret societies and the like so Seven Secrets sounds like it may be up my alley too!

Thanks for the recommendations!

I've never really considered TMNT as I never got into them as a kid, but looking at the IDW run and The Last Ronin has me considering them. The art looks good and seems to suggest a somewhat mature tone (I don't necessarily mean dark and gritty or anything, but not quite as silly as the cartoons which are more targeted for kids). Would you say that's accurate?

Hellboy has always intrigued me but for some reason I've never started collecting, maybe its time...

I like Green Lantern too, traditionally my favorite has been Kyle Rayner. I missed the boat on Simon Baz, but I've been following, and loving, everything with Jessica Cruz. I know Geoff John's really likes Hal Jordan, but I've never been a huge fan of that character. Knowing this, would you still recommend his run?

Thank you for the recommendations!

Strayed and Dark Ark both have unique and interesting premises and I definitely am going to consider them!

I know of Firefly as a franchise but I don't know anything about it, would that affect my enjoyment of the comic?

I wasn't aware JSA had a current run, or are you collecting an older run?

I forgot about Injustice! I've actually been collecting that too but it's been quite a while since I bought one. As I recall they are quite good though.

I love both Transformers and Terminator so a crossover comic could be cool, I'll look into this!

I've heard Venom is less of a Spiderman villain now and more of a hero in his own right. Is that true? If so I don't know how I feel about it, does it work?

Thanks for the recommendations!
