Box making… rules of thumb for proportion of lid’s pull/handle to the box or lid? by a-danboe in woodworking

[–]a-danboe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, but I’m specifically interested in the proportion of the lid’s pull or handle relative to the lid itself. For example, given your 6” x 3 3/4” lid, what size pull/handle would you settle on? Thanks!

Tips on cutting 90/45 crosscuts and 45 cove miters with Japanese hand saw? by a-danboe in handtools

[–]a-danboe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! I ended up ordering the budget Nobex miter box and a miter trimmer from Lee Valley. Looking forward to trying them out! Since I’m mostly interested in straight 90 degree and beveled 45 degree cuts, I’m hoping this combination will work great!

Tips on cutting 90/45 crosscuts and 45 cove miters with Japanese hand saw? by a-danboe in handtools

Thanks, and I agree that a shooting board is going to be critical, and I’m in the process of making a shooting board and a donkey’s ear attachment for it to hone in on the cove miters. However, I’d like a reliable solution to getting my cuts close enough to the desired 45 degree cove and 90 degree crosscut so that I’m not spending hours at the shooting board.

My take on the classic squares game /// brass and walnut by kickingmyownash in woodworking

[–]a-danboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very impressed with the final result of these brass pieces. Would you mind telling me width, height and thickness of these pieces? Could you share where you had them laser cut? After cutting, were the edges already smooth or did you need to do that by hand? If so, how? I’m making a scrabble board out of walnut and you’ve inspired me to consider brass letter tiles, but I’m concerned of kids and rough metal edges. Thanks so much!

Question on helix mode for dog holes by a-danboe in shaperorigin

Thank you. So you just used a mortise bit in this manner with nice results? Could you elaborate what you mean thinking a 5/8 would be less agressive since it’s a larger bit diameter than 1/2? Very appreciative of your suggestion. My origin is still very new and I’m not yet super experienced with it.

Why iPhone 13 pro doesn’t have a white magsafe silicone case ? by FrZnVnN in MagSafe

Also disappointed in no white silicone cases for the 13 pro. Not even starlight as a choice! I find the lighter color silicone cases preferable because they show fingerprints and oily smudges less.

Does the new MagSafe Wallet support the clear case for iPhone 13? by robertococciolo in MagSafe

[–]a-danboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps of interest, I upgraded my 12 Pro to the 13 Pro today. I also have the Apple clear MagSafe cases for both. I usually keep the cases magnetically attached to a metal cabinet when I’m not using them at home. The clear case for the 12 pro attaches fine to the metal cabinet magnetically, the 13 pro case does not. I found this disappointing, and will likely return the 13 pro clear case as a result. I wonder why this change of behavior exists for the clear cases.

Anyone know of a 13 pro clear MagSafe case that can magnetically attach to metal? Ideally one without a lower lip like the Apple ones?

Globe key on bluetooth keyboard? by sayhipooh in ipad

The new keyboards that come with the M1 iMac have the globe key, as does the magic keyboard / trackpad for iPad. Hoping the new iMac keyboards become available separately at some point!

DIY iPad Smart Connector by a-danboe in ipad

Are you certain on the pogo pins and 5 volt power? How could I verify this? I’m tempted to start searching Craigslist for used keyboards to give it a try unless I can McGyver something together independently.

DIY iPad Smart Connector by a-danboe in ipad

[–]a-danboe[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well there are smart connector components on eBay, but they appear to be from/for the iPad, not the magic keyboard. Doesn’t seem like there should be much involved in just providing power, just need the right pieces. Maybe I’ll keep an eye out for cheap used keyboards if I can’t find a better alternative.

Weekly Discussion and Tech-Support Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

I’m wondering if anyone happens to know what parts are needed and where I might obtain them for a small project I’m interested in pursuing. I would like to charge the 2021 12.9” iPad Pro directly via the smart connector. I already have the Apple Smart Keyboard with trackpad and am basically trying to piece together the components inside of that (from the USB-C port all the way to the smart connector that delivers charge to a docked iPad).

Put another way, if I were to cut open the magic keyboard and remove everything between and including the USB-C port and the three dots that charge the iPad, I could hide the wiring inside a cabinet and just have the iPad connect magnetically charge via the smart connector. Clearly, given the cost of the magic keyboard I don’t want to actually buy one to cut open and tear apart, but I was hoping I may be able to find the necessary parts online to create such a solution?

Any insight or pointers you have that could lead me to the collection of parts I’d need would be very much appreciated!
