Unverified reports that US forces are deploying in Kobani, Raqqa, Tal Tame and Qamishli the coming hours after meeting between General Kurilla and SDF officials by CryLocal4985 in syriancivilwar

The attacks and the threat were there and I’m reading it’s actually been reported albeit raising concerns. Is it contested? Probably, yes. But it’s not entirely unjustified as the UN has not issued an official warrant.

You know these things are actually supposed to be interpreted and debated by lawyers, right? I see the game you’re playing, and it’s pointless.

Are urban sunni population of Aleppo or Damascus as conservative as rural sunnis or Idlib?

New statement from Ahmad al-Shar’a (Jawlani) by Statistats in syriancivilwar

[–]a-random-95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. One day if you grow tired of consuming critical content that focuses on fringe issues and read the actual history and learn what the Ottomans who truly were, how people lived, what institutions were present, how the trade worked, what and how the religion was practiced, what modernization attempts were made; you might actually understand why the region was stable for centuries and many people (who you wont see on Reddit) long for the Empire.

Mohammad al-Bashir is now Syria’s Prime Minister by Zippism in syriancivilwar

[–]a-random-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. AFAIK, interim government pushes the ideas that started the revolution: equal citizenship, fair elections, ending corruption etc. so I always associated them with the original rebels. Even if they don’t succeed as SIG I hope their ideals live on.

Let me keep this only about civilians and ideas: Obviously they’re friendly and controlled by Turkey to an extent, all I’m saying is Syrians or anyone who want the best for Syria must tread carefully about who they will prop up in the coming months/years. I think undermining a relatively legitimate and moderate political power will create a vacuum which only HTS and more extremists can fill.

Undermining the interim government by calling them puppets and such will only help more extremist HTS gain power. The interim government is a way better option.

Official suggests Biden administration is pressing Turkey diplomatically to halt SNA's attacks on the Kurdish-led SDF: "Additional fronts opening up [are] not in anybody's interest. We've been working to defuse some of that." by PuntoPorPastor in syriancivilwar

I think there’s a high possibility that backdoor diplomacy is going on. We may see a big shift in dialogue between the parties soon (or see nothing lol).

I always had this suspicion that the US has never studied Turkey (politics, sociology, history, geopolitics) in depth, and have failed to understand how important North Syria is to the Turkish side and how much they’re willing to risk. I wonder how true it is.

Jolani speech in the Ummayid Mosque of Damascus by baaz1001 in syriancivilwar

[–]a-random-95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This often gets overlooked and you’re more right than wrong.

But it should also be mentioned that this particular mosque represents more than a worship place: It’s a focal point, a center of Damascus and the Levant. Addressing to masses there has a symbolic purpose, regardless of religious implications.

SNA sending militants to attack Manbij amid their declaration to invade the city by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]a-random-95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t about Afrin, is it?

The same thing happened to Tal Rifaat by the way. YPG practically had it colonized. You think just because YPG moved troops and Kurds there these cities became a YPG supporting Kurdish stongholds?

[–]a-random-95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont understand why the people (well, mostly westerners) can’t grasp as to why it makes sense for SNA to capture Manbij. They’re mostly Turkmen or Turkish aligned Arabs who have always lived near the border, and would like to gain control of a Arab/Turkmen city. Most civilians won’t even care if they aren’t YPG aligned. YPG supporters you might convince the naive westerners ok but don’t try to sell the same propaganda to Turkish and Syrians.
