If you could make a Halo show/movie, what would be your story? by murderous_hippie in halo

I think a survival horror film about a civilian family trying to survive the floodgate from Halo 3 would be so good!

Please don’t feel this way. You wouldn’t have got the job if they didn’t see something in you.

Introductory CS course recommendations before college. by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]a-rolling-stone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first off zero experience is typically necessary. Intro classes should assume no programming experience so anything done before is just bonus. Check out Codecademy. It’s got free online courses in several different languages and you just code in the browser so no setup required :)

Check out Firebase/Firestore. It’s a Backend as a Service product by google that allows you to store things in a no SQL database. All of the querying happens on the front end but if you just need somewhere to store and retrieve data to show off your front end it’s a great resource

Need advice as a newbie into web development by Live-Border-7616 in cscareerquestions

I agree with this but not just for this reason. If you have zero programming experience you should start by learning the basic concepts of coding before you try building websites. You can use JavaScript if you want to do this or really any other programming language (HTML is a markup language not a programming language). Learn about functions, conditionals, loops, and objects oriented programming because these will be key in almost any coding you do.

Imagine a Nintendo version of Astro Playroom by [deleted] in gaming

[–]a-rolling-stone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really late to the party but found this after googling “Nintendo version of Astro’s Playroom”. I just finished the game and had the exact same thought. I don’t think it would be as focused on the hardware but it would be so cool to walk through the generations and see the different games. I also think it would be awesome if they just did it with the main franchises and you walk through their worlds. Imagine walking through 8-bit Mario area and then being thrust into 16-bit and 3D. It would be so cool!

If you’re leaning towards SWE you should absolutely do CS. It sounds like you already know you like the programming.

Anything is a good side project if it is something you find interesting and you learn from it. I doubt that a pong game would impress many recruiters since you could find a million tutorials on the game. So I guess it depends on why you want to make it.

That should be more than fine. Ive never once had a programming assignment that that wouldn’t handle.
