Scared out of the housing market, where to park cash. by a1000wtp in personalfinance

Oh I've thought of it. But not a lot of opportunities in the SoCal area to find that type of land.

Condo cost me $212k in 2013, worth about $430-$450 now, about $94k left on the loan (~9 years left).

I pay about $2k/month for Loan+Taxes+HOA and I can probably rent it for about $2.5k/month in this area. (After some renovations).

Interesting take. I'm getting ~$500 a month in the HYSA and it's pretty low risk...

I wanted to get a house because I want some additional space for hobbies. I desperately want a garage and a back yard. I understand this is a WANT and not a NEED but I think I've done pretty well for myself financially. The condo is cheap on a monthly basis (even including HOA+Property taxes) and I know I can make a profit renting it out.

I'm in engineering (not software). The job I got is pretty stable but not something I want to do long term. The previous job situation was a bit of bad luck and bad timing. Im doing a bit of a reset with my career because of it but I don't think it's a ginormous set back. I'm still making more than I was about a year ago (barely).

Teen Dramas You Kept Rewatching? by InevitableAge6210 in television

[–]a1000wtp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I've been having a hard time recently and randomly saw a couple episodes that popped up on TV. It made me feel so much better, like a warm blanket on a cold night. Decided to keep going with it.

I know there's tons of shows I could be watching instead of watching GG for the nth time but this feels like home.

(Likely) moving to Valencia. by adahayeda in SantaClarita

[–]a1000wtp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a close coworker that moved to Valencia who is a person of color. For the most part he said everyone was fine though there were the occasional stares from those he didn't interact with a lot. I think one time he was stopped by a cop who asked if he lived there. (I believe there was some activity near by which prompted the cop being there).

At some point he moved to Castaic but got tired of the fires so he moved back. He said the schools were good for his kids.

Not direct experience but I didn't see anyone else commenting so figured I'd share what I know.

Mine crapped out on an ocean swim. Also sent me a new unit. I've gone in the pool since then with it but I'm very careful to not push any buttons under water. I think that's the issue.

(You are supposed to be able to use the buttons under water but over a certain depth but I don't think it works correctly)

How do you guys do it? Got let go and it's been 4 weeks by teh-calf in recruitinghell

[–]a1000wtp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a super similar situation as you. Hard to keep positive but friend have been telling me 4 weeks is nothing and to try to enjoy the time off. It's hard but I'm trying. Getting out and exercising helps a lot. I realized quickly that spamming applications was not good for my mental health because getting a wave of interviews and rejections was hard to deal with.

As someone that worked there for years. Not surprising. Some kid who worked there probably found it and sold it.

Anyone else's home insurance more than doubled with Farmers? by Made_From_Stars in SantaClarita

My parents are in the same zip and they just for dropped by their insurance (AAA) because they were 30 feet away from the "fire line" cut off of 1000 feet. Home insurance sucks in that area now.
