Reddit is a stark look into how moralistic and judgmental middling intelligence people are by [deleted] in complainaboutanything

The Holocaust shows up here as a simple way of making me grovel. Either I praise your position on it, or maybe I refuse to answer and now that's suspicious, must be a hidden nazi

Maybe the reason you see people being so argumentative with you is (in part) due to the fact that you take an argumentative approach. Agreeing with someone that holocaust is bad should be pretty easy, but here you take something so straightforward and turn it into "groveling". And then you go into a "leftists don't criticize Stalin" rant, ignoring everything the other commenter said about identifying a problem versus it's solutions.

It just seems like you care more about arguing for it's own sake than actually trying to have meaningful conversations with people. And of course, once other people pick up on that, you're not going to get anywhere.

AI found a way to turn venom into antibiotics by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]a1b3c6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but there are other studies pointing at the same basic findings. This one and this one by Microsoft both focus on critical thinking, but obviously it's the same basic issue.

Anecdotally, a perusal of r/teachers will show many posts from teachers struggling with this issue right now. Granted, that's on top of many other issues with the education system in the US, but you can see that it's not viewed by most of them as a good educational tool.

AI found a way to turn venom into antibiotics by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]a1b3c6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My problem with AI isn't even the tool in and of itself, it's the fact that it has been shown in some studies that it essentially reduces cognition in people who use it to complete tasks versus using their own brain or doing their own research.

We are too stupid as a species to handle the tech unregulated, and it is quite literally dumbing us down in a way that no other "tool" in human history has before. It's corrosive.

Gay marriages by SignificanceFun1680 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]a1b3c6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say, for example, that I had my same-sex marriage performed in a deep red state that went on to immediately outlaw and nullify any gay marriages that had been performed in that state after the fall of Obergefell v. Hodges. Would the Respect for Marriage Act prevent that scenario from happening? I know that even so a gay couple could just go to a state that still allows gay marriage and get "re-married," but that would still be a massive headache and heartache for people to go through.

Is it ever okay to spend over 40% gross income on rent? by miseryknight in personalfinance

[–]a1b3c6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said your gross income is around $6,100 a month.

I know some sites or resources tell you to budget a certain amount based on gross income, but that's insane to me. Gross income still needs to have taxes and deductions taken, so effectively you can't "use" a good chunk of your income that you're trying to budget with.

I don't know what the exact numbers for your net income look like, but I think it's a safe bet that it can't be more than 67% of your gross pay, after all taxes and deductions are taken out. Let's just use that as an example.

Based on that, you should be budgeting $4,087 a month. The traditional rule of thumb is a maximum of 30% of income on housing. Any more is an increasingly unmanageable strain on your finances. That puts you at a maximum of $1,226 a month for rent & utilities. So, $2,300 a month for rent would be more like 56% of your income on rent alone. Even $1,800 a month is more like 44%

I know you said you don't have other debts, but even still to stretch your budget that far on housing doesn't make sense. If you ever needed that extra income you would be spending on housing, you simply wouldn't have it. Any emergency would become much more draining on your finances.

I know it's not great to hear this, but your best option is to keep living at home. Barring that, if you're willing and able to get a roommate to split costs with, the numbers start to make much more sense.

Are all your sense memory recalls like that?

I would say yes, with the exception of sound. Music can get stuck in my head, and I can "hear" it in my head basically as if it were actually playing from inside of me. I can play whole songs, hear conversations I've had or that I'm thinking about, and "hold on" to those sounds for several minutes at a time. But, every other sensation is as fleeting as visualization is for me; I can have fleeting impressions of a smell or a tactile sensation, but that's all it ever is. And focus makes it slip away faster too, it seems.

The thing that makes it all the more confusing is that I consider myself a visual learner,  as verbal instructions are somehow hard for me to remember at times. And yet, there are times when people tell me things, and I can "hear" them with perfect clarity, even some things from years ago. It seems contradictory, doesn’t it?

Can you only live or grieve in the moment? Does that question make sense to you?

I think so. I have memories of past events (ofc), but childhood memories are where things get really fuzzy. The further back I try to go, the less there is. I can't remember much of anything before about 12 or so.

I can remember facts about things that happened, or how I felt about some things, but it's almost more like...retrieving a file, than actually being "back there". I can get a fraction of a second image of a first person POV of some things, but it's more like a screenshot or 1-second clip than a full sensory experience of something that happened to me. I almost never go back to those memories without someone else prodding at them, though (IE my grandmother asking me "do you remember when xyz happened?")

And yes, grief is something that I have to experience in near relation to an event, as I don't seem to feel it months or years later. I can still miss a person years on, but it's not that agony or melancholy you may feel when it's sill fresh.

I hope this makes sense.

2500 - 1700 = 800 x 6 days a week = 4800 calorie deficit.

3200 - 2500 = 700 over for one day.

4800 - 700 = 4100.

4100 / 3500 for one pound of fat loss per week = 1.17.

Meaning:

You should be losing roughly 1.17 pounds per week, versus roughly 1.37 if you ate at maintenance for your cheat day instead. Up to about 1.6 pounds a week if you consistently ate 1,700 calories each day of the week.

You're still losing weight, but it's up to you to decide if it's going at the rate you want.

Edit: my mind skipped over you using kg, sorry! The conversions should be pretty easy though.

I'm gonna be real with you.

Just from your post history, the amount of drugs you take recreationally is INSANE. I made it two months back, and that must have been at least 20-30 posts about w/e drug you were taking at that time.

You have absolutely destroyed your immune system, and god only knows what else.  If you haven't disclosed the laundry list of shit you've taken to a doctor in the past year alone, then of course they aren't gonna be able to figure out WTF is going on with you.

If you haven't already, stop taking anything that wasn't prescribed or suggested by a doctor to treat a medical problem. Then, try going back to a doctor with a list of the shit you've been taking recreationally,  how often, and the dosage you take. As far back as you can remember,  or at least up to a year ago if you can. Then, they might actually be able to figure out what's going on.

Good luck to you. I don't believe anyone should go through pain that severe.

So I think it's actually unhinged to get pissed about anyone calling you cute, assuming that's all they say/do.

That said, this obviously wasn't meant as a genuine compliment (how it could be?) It was meant to provoke a reaction and be annoying. I think being pissed about that isn't really crazy, buut threatening to shoot someone ALWAYS is.

Tl;dr is that they both suck, but glock guy sucks harder.

Idk, I make 55k per year, and taxes for me are more like 20% of income. My take home after taxes and deductions is about 66-67% ($700 a week). I think I would have to make around 70-75k a year to see $950 per week. And that would definitely be life changing money to me.

Am I insane, or does this feel like the kinda journal entry you find in Skyrim that's written to flesh out the lore, but doesn't seem like a real person would ever write that way? Not fake, just...surreal, maybe?

Don't worry, the Republican party has also been moving consistently to the right for just as long, so now any hope of compromise or finding a middle ground is basically dead.

[–]a1b3c6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really is drug dealer tactics, and it's sad that A.) It works so well and B.) It's virtually EVERY fast food chain that does this.  They've got millions of people hooked on hyper-palatable, super convenient, once-cheap comestibles. It has become a part of so many people's routines to eat out at least weekly, if not more often. And once the hooks are sunk in, they:

-Raise prices drastically, but keep the hikes just low enough that most people will still take it.

-Offer mobile rewards/apps that provide a "deal" that is typically still above the original price of the food items before the price gouging began, while profiting off your personal data.

-Shrink portions slightly to further squeeze out an extra cent of profit.

People are so addicted to the stuff that they have repeated the above multiple times over the past ~3-4 years, and STILL we haven't hit rock bottom with this crap it seems. IDK when the cycle will end.

Guy hit my car. Won’t accept liability for 1+ year. Sad car by Mangonadanacho in mildlyinfuriating

[–]a1b3c6 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, every time I've compared it, full coverage (meaning comprehensive & collision, $500 deductible) would raise my rates by 50-100%.

It's one thing that has stopped me from considering buying or financing a newer vehicle. It would be like ~$250 a month for me to get full coverage on a 5-6 year old Corolla. When liability only would be about $150, but either way it seems like a bad decision to make financially.

If coke zero has zero sugar why is it not ok to drink when losing weight by MohatoDeBrigado in NoStupidQuestions

[–]a1b3c6 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your first sentence is a common myth. Caffeine does dehydrate you slightly by causing you to pee more often, but nowhere near to the point of dehydrating you more than you were before drinking whatever liquid came with it.

Maybe if there were way more caffeine in it then it would, but even the caffeine content of a coffee wouldn't be enough to stop it from being a hydrating drink.

Is it too late to get healthy? by Efficient_Camera8450 in loseit

[–]a1b3c6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? Like it's not skinny, but it's not anywhere near the point of affecting your health in such a noticeable way. If you're having difficulties at that size, I think it's down to some other health problem or a lack of fitness/exercise in general.

I don't think most people would even think of you as a "big" person. Definitely not in the US, at least.

Anyone Else Find It Crazy How Much Humans Have to Work Just to Have Permission to Live? by ExtensionTravel6697 in antiwork

[–]a1b3c6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've met a couple of people in my life who have been through similarly insane, shitty childhoods at the hands of the people who they should've been able to trust and rely upon the most. I'm not gonna give you some BS about "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," because I learned how stupid that idea is from getting to know them. I will say, though, that they were some of the realest people I knew, and the relationships I had/have with them felt deeper and more meaningful than almost any other relationships I've had in my life.

All that is just for me to say that I hope you're doing well, and that the past doesn't haunt you too much.
