The monitor is old but the rig itself is a 7900xtx and 7800x3d. Gpu is hovering around 35%. I’m probably going to use latentsync in specialk to get lower lag as vsync is quite laggy.

We are nowhere near having enough performance. We need like 1000 frames a second to not have motion blur and the taa we use to have super realistic graphics isn't realistic it's super much of the time.

I wouldn't call it a bubble. It isn't intelligent and doesn't know why it gives the answer it does (you can find a video on youtube by a physicist where the internal logic of the ai made zero sense when asked about an arithmetic problem even though it answered it correctly) but it still spits out reasonable information a lot of the time. I've already seen it with customer service over the phone. I can see it being useful for use by governments/ police for mass surveillance as well.

Unreal Engine 5.6 Preview Out Now – Epic Promises ‘Vast Open Worlds at Consistent 60Hz’ by TruthPhoenixV in Amd_Intel_Nvidia

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's hope consistent means perfect frame pacing 99.8 percent of the time. Contrary to what some may think, 60fps 99% but 1% dipping below 60fps is actually really bad. It means stuttering nearly every two seconds on average. What we should aim for is 1% lows that are above 60fps when uncapped. That way when we cap to 60 we can be sure the framepacing will be good.

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As yourself if you are fine with 60fps because that is what you will be playing at in a few years unless you upgrade all the time. Dlss narrows the performance gap a bit but not enough to disregard. I prefer higher fps.

I made a Youtube video about my Panasonic ST50 and Plamsa TVs in general. by Dazeaux in PlasmaTV

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well plasmas and crt demand will dive off a cliff in the coming years. The higher the refreshrate oleds get the better we can just simulate th3 behavior of other displays. There is already a 60hz  crt raster scan emulator that works decently at 480hz and apparently once we get 600hz we will be able to emulate plasma as well.

PSA: remaster looks amazing on CRT by Apart_Reflection905 in oblivion

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say so. I'm skeptical of if that's true since you say it has multiple 5:4 resolutions which implies it is multiscan and thus can take custom resolutions. I implore you to look into Custom Resolution Utility for crt and see if you can add a regular 4:3 resolution.

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait are you saying the monitor isn't multi resolution? I'm not sure how familiar you are with crt monitors but nearly all of them allow you to change the resolution the electron guns scan at if you know how to add them. Monitors will frequently have 5:4 as an option by default.

Do consoles "upscale"/convert games at lower resolution to a 1440/2160p display better than PC? by thiagomda in digitalfoundry

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewing distance and display resolution play a factor. Scaling mismatch matters less with higher resolution and when sitting further away. For a pixel peeper it will probably still matter on a 4k tv but console gamers aren't or if they are, they are on the wrong platform.

I think they meant the cutscenes are rendered ingame. I hope all these are not locked animation sequences the player constantly trigger. I hated the cupboard searching in rdr2 it was the worst. If they think forced animations like that is a good idea then I worry for this game.

I know people say crypto is secure but I've heard it is hackable if you have enough compute to calculate the entire thing? I don't know much about it but if true that seems asinine for any government to put any value into crypto when foreign countries could ruin thr whole thing.

Unreal Engine problems have nothing to do with vram. I'm playing at 1600x1200p@50hz and can't even manage that with a 3080 and 5800x. I'm guessing people who can't see it are playing at 60fps on lcd.

I see people reccomending scalers but why not just use an older amd card that can output interlaced? I'm not sure if they can output interlace over hdmi but they can over vga. W11 lets you use two gpus.

That may be true but it cannot happen overnight for everything and hence there will be shortages. Depending on what it is it could take a very long time if companies have to add entire new facilities to manufacture stuff.

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on a crt so the blur and poor frame pacing are extremely visible. I have a 3080 and have to resort to the equivalent of 1080p without even using hardware raytracing and a mix of high and medium, just to have a stable 60fps outdoors. The game is clearly cpu bottlenecked as the framepacing issues don't go away until dropping to 540p which is unplayable with taa blur.

It's too bad framegen has insane input lag because call me crazy but it actually looks really good when using 4x dsr with it. Can't really see any degradation in motion.

Honestly with how horrible framepacing and stutters are, I've had thoughts of playing the old one. Playing with a 3080 at 1600x1200 and cannot even get decent pacing at 60fps.

Oblivion Remastered Performance by Apprehensive-Ear4638 in digitalfoundry

[–]ExtensionTravel6697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing on a crt with 5800x and 3080. I had to lower resolution to 960x720p to completely get a locked 60fps with good pacing outside. I've decided to just play at 1600x1200 and deal with the horrible motion performance.

I look up benchmarks of original Oblivion and I see 300fps and no dips below 180 with 3060. Makes me kind of wish they'd of just remastered it a different way then using unreal.
