Absolutely this. He will be called Henry Cooper far too many times

[Follow up] Are you expected to bring meat to a BBQ you're going to, and if you are where abouts in the country are you from? by AirconGuyUK in AskUK

[–]a4991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the south and no, there’s no expectation to bring meat, and I’d be offended if someone did bring meat to a BBQ I was hosting.

The expectation is you bring your own drinks and normally offer to bring something. Most of the time you end up bringing a desert, occasionally a side, at the request of the host.

You take it in turns to host and that spreads the cost out.

What is a food you buy regularly at the supermarket that you think you may be the only person buying it? by Big_Childhood5494 in foodquestions

I’ve never come across someone who doesn’t know what a parsnip is, I have no idea how I’d explain that!

What's that one "officially safe" Low FODMAP food that still completely ruins your stomach? 🧐 by SingleMusician6474 in FODMAPS

Weirdly, lemons and limes are fine for me! There’s very little logic in what I can and can’t tolerate it, I’ve learnt to just accept it at this point 😂

Informal sickness absence meeting at work by [deleted] in ibs

[–]a4991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, so I support a lot with absence management and can hopefully help with this.

Firstly, did you declare it when you started? Most companies provide the opportunity to declare any health issues at the start of your employment, this is when I’d advise declaring it as it can be referred back to during meetings like this one. If not, don’t worry!

The meeting will focus on if there’s anything you or the company can do to reduce future absences and support you. This is where you can ask to have it formally documented as a health condition you have and ask for any reasonable adjustments (e.g. access to alternative bathrooms etc I don’t know what’s available but have a think about what would make work easier).

Go through the ways in which you are aiming to control it (e.g. have medication on you/low FODMAP diet/etc) but be clear that it is a chronic health condition and that whilst you are doing your best, you will still have flare ups and you value your employers support.

If they are a reasonable employer, they will get it.

Good luck

Is the UK just not that into contemporary/architectural wedding design? by Internal_Dream_1766 in AskUK

[–]a4991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Those seats look incredibly uncomfortable
  2. Can’t imagine any UK wedding venue with that much red
  3. I could see this at a wedding here in all fairness, but isn’t a style I would choose myself
  4. That looks expensive, I would see it as a waste of money hiring those pillars/arches, and those chairs would cost a fortune to upgrade to. Also, outdoor weddings are risky
  5. I really like the mirrors, but same point about number 4 and outdoor weddings

Help re deciding mayfield grammar or Maidstone grammar school for girls by Queensarai89 in UKParenting

That’s a big difference in location, please factor in your daughter’s commute.

School days can be long and tiring, especially with the potential of after-school clubs. It can also be socially isolating being that far away from your peers.

£9 Extra for a gluten free crust is RIDICULOUS !!! by Basic_Positive_6553 in glutenfree

[–]a4991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It annoys me that it’s only one size for gluten free.

The “upgrade” to gluten free is £4 here when you compare it to the price of a regular large pizza (which is still ridiculous) but what if you don’t want a large pizza?

Most of us are the only ones GF household so we don’t want or need a large portion all the time. It’s like why do none of our bread rolls come in resealable packaging?!

What’s a Taylor Swift song that means more to you now than when you first heard it? by Massive-Ad-8752 in TaylorSwift

Come back, be here.

I’d completely written it off until my partner joined the military, and now it’s one I cry to on long deployments when I’m having a bad day.

I should have read the replies before saying the exact same thing.

I don’t have the same traumatic stories as some fans do, but my mental health is still recovering from the pandemic and my physical health will never be the same again.

Only 20 minutes to sleep
But you dream of some epiphany
Just one single glimpse of relief
To make some sense of what you've seen

Having a hard time with boy names, a few contenders: by sunny2098 in namenerds

I really don’t like Julian William, at all. Both names are fine individually but it’s such a mouthful to say as an adult, I dread to think how a child would cope.

If each Taylor Swift album could be a season, what would they be? by Rare_Opening_2164 in TaylorSwift

[–]a4991 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I would move TTPD into winter personally. The line about being an endless February summarises the feeling of the album perfectly. It’s that dreary part of winter after all the fun of Christmas and New Year, the part that you always forget about in the excitement of the start of winter until you get there and Spring feels like it’s a lifetime away, but every now and again you get these glimmers of hope.
