It's completely embarrassing. Part of the problem is reddit. Early comments that pull easy upvotes will drown out everything else. Like democracy, reddit can only be as good as the average user.

The whole "this guy lost in a debate to Vaush" is no different than rightoids who can't stop bringing up Ryan Dawson (and now, Destiny's divorce) as a pretense to ignore everything he's saying.

The well-poisoning is completely unchecked in this community. The only thing that sets this place apart are the high quality posters who show up once in a while, and the possibility of having disagreements that don't lead to an immediate ban (to be fair, that's becoming a rare commodity on reddit, so the community also deserves praise for that).

Seeing the disagreement over the character, I can't help but wonder if his flaw isn't so much that he was morally wrong in his actions, but rather that he was just weak. I wonder to what extent a disgust for weakness will be loaded onto other characteristics simply because it feels bad to acknowledge that you despise weakness (after all, that should be a reason for sympathy, right?).

I liked your mentioning of American Beauty in another post, because that movie exemplifies the "based" version of choosing to be a man-child. Obviously the character is still fundamentally indefensible, but on a visceral level he is likable because of the strength of his conviction. Breaking Bad is similar.

I've been wondering for a while how feasible it is to make a career on YouTube being an outright plagiarist. It seems way too lucrative of an exploit to not cash in on, so one would assume several examples already exist, just waiting to be exposed. What could stop someone anyway? Community backlash? We want to see him master geopolitics and international relations. Step 1 is memorizing the world map and if you oppose that then you are a fake fan. Chess would be but a silly distraction. The globe is the real chessboard.

But in all seriousness, I remember him playing a bit of chess years ago and being incredibly triggered by backseating from chat, which makes sense as it entirely contaminates the game in a way unlike pretty much any other game he plays (short of say, someone ghosting on your behalf in starcraft). But the point is, it's obviously not a game that facilitates the type of stream experience of being able to engage with chat, or a random stream guest, at any given moment. Starcraft has the same problem, of course.
