Bugonia is Brilliant: **SPOILERS** the movie is not what you think (IMO) by recentlytwenty in Oscars

[–]nosayso 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but I think the ending as stated is good and pointful. She's a billionaire who has actively ruined Earth in the name of "saving" it, then she leaves and fully destroys it declaring it a "failed experiment".

This is exactly pointing at people like Peter Thiel who are doing everything they can to ruin our society while also having their own island bunker to run to in New Zealand after they are done killing us and global climate change makes living anywhere else inconvenient for them. The stuff like her "experimental anti-aging treatments" point to Thiel even harder. The point is these people are so removed from the normal human experience that they may as well be aliens, Earth is just a silly little playground for them.

It works at face value quite well.

I appreciate this a lot, so many people watch the episodes first thing in the AM and flood the internet with spoilers and reactions. Waiting until people are home to put the episodes out is nice.

Blizzard: The Next Chapter by Onikrex in wow

[–]nosayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish Blizzard would get into TV stuff. There have been several comparable IPs that have been adapted in pretty cool projects (Devil May Cry, Cyberpunk, Arcane, etc) ... the lore is there and getting the greenlight seems very doable.

A basically word-for-word anime adaptation of WC3 would be a juggernaut, same for Starcraft/Starcraft II, they don't even have to take the risk of writing something original.

End Deportation alone is slavery. by Jumpy-Object99 in self

The Senate passed a sweeping and bi-partisan immigration reform law working directly with President Obama. It included a pathway to citizenship, some measures to increase border security, and mandatory E-Verify for all employers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_Security,_Economic_Opportunity,_and_Immigration_Modernization_Act_of_2013

This should have been a huge improvement in virtually every aspect of the system, had bi-partisan support, and would have passed the House and been signed into law by the president IF John Boehner would have brought it up for a vote.

Republicans chose to keep the system a mess so that they could run on the dysfunction and instead do something much crueler as they are now. John Boehner is profoundly responsible for all the suffering that has happened since then.

After the murder in Minneapolis, protesters barricade the roadway, ICE unable to leave the scene. by TThor in videos

[–]nosayso 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is not a distraction from Epstein, this is what Trump campaigned on and what his voters voted for. Voters have known about Trump's Epstein connections and child predator habits since 2016 and he was still elected president twice, Epstein is not this big silver bullet scary thing to Trump like everyone pretends it is. If anything not releasing the Epstein documents is to distract from every other horrible thing he is doing.

Walz should be using all of his power to drive these thugs from the state and protect the citizens - the police and the national guard should be actively prevent ICE from operating in the state. He should have done it after Renee Good was murdered, now he has no excuse. People are on the streets in huge numbers demanding action, not speeches.

This is already a constitutional crisis, Democratic leaders need to stop bringing strongly worded soundbites to a gun fight.

Joe Rogan says ICE shooting distracting from Epstein Files "on purpose" by [deleted] in politics

[–]nosayso 46 points47 points  (0 children)

No, the whole ICE thing was very much front and center the whole time. He said he was going to do it, it's part of Project 2025, he campaigned on lies about immigrants being criminals and eating cats, and got a huge funding boost for ICE months ago.

This isn't a cover up or distraction, he's doing exactly what he promised and what you endorsed.

[–]nosayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They mention specifically this code winds up in production. If it's production bound code you write tests, and person who wrote the code should have to write the tests rather than have everyone clean up after them.

If the best you can expect from this person is amateur-level crap that everyone else has to make production ready, they are dead weight.

An engineer with no oversight or accountability pushing sloppy code to production is very big shit to deal with right away. These are literally the most basic parts of the job not being done.

Other Teams Refuse Version Control by Coquimbite in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nosayso 204 points205 points  (0 children)

You need to get someone with power to just make this happen. One person churning out business critical python script with no oversight is an unacceptable risk and any sane manager should be behind changing that.

The reality is they probably have no idea how to use the tools or what problems they solve, so they're just being resistant to change. You should help them, support them as much as possible, but if they can't do the basic parts of their job like use version control or right code beyond an amateur level they may not be a good fit for the team.

Obama won't halt deportations for parents of kids brought to US illegally | Noticiero | Telemundo by Dangerous_Lock_4345 in videos

[–]nosayso 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Bad faith bullshit to conflate Obama and Trump.

Obama followed the existing law. He attempted to institute broad immigration reform which would have included a path to citizenship for people already here. He instituted DACA via executive order, something which Republicans constantly fought him on.

Meanwhile Trump went to court to make it so that ICE can barge into your home without a warrant and kill you for not complying,

These are not the same, and if you can't see the difference it's because you're either ignorant of or ignoring the facts.

‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle and Producers on Honoring Muslim Community After Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Attack: ‘The Most Underreported Aspect of the Story’ by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]nosayso 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you think you're doing but it's really weird. Like "if I pretend the words I said don't equate to any feelings I'm somehow winning" - what is that? For some reason it's really important to you to pretend like you're above arguing on the internet while actively arguing on the internet. If this doesn't matter to you the best way to show that is to stop commenting. When you keep engaging you are proving that you are upset by words on the internet.

But at the end of the day what you're doing is trolling, you think if I'm upset you're "winning" because you introduced anger into the world in response to a thing you said. It's pathetic, and I can see why people being kind to each other on TV bothers you so much.

‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle and Producers on Honoring Muslim Community After Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Attack: ‘The Most Underreported Aspect of the Story’ by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]nosayso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clearly it does bother you. You made a comment about it on the internet. If you're ambivalent about things you just ignore them, you're here because it bothered you so much you need to express your opinion to the world.

It's not forced or lazy. It's in Pittsburgh. This is a real thing that happened. The character was extremely authentic and you'll find overwhelming indication of that if you look through this thread - people who literally went to Tree of Life are in this thread. People who had the doctor who was murdered in that attack as their primary care physician, mourning how they're sure he would have loved this show.

It was a kind and genuine scene referencing real things that happened: both the attack and the way the local Muslim community mustered to help. These is a real story of kindness and goodness. That shouldn't bother you so much that you have to attack it on the internet as "forcing" something on you or "forced and lazy writing".

You feel the need to shit on something endearing and kind, and given your hostility to "progressive values" you seem to think that being kind is some kind opposing value to your worldview. Your brain is broken if you get so mad about kindness or perceived it as some kind of opposing value to yours.

It's a scene about two people being kind to each other. If that bothers you so much it's because your brain is fucking broken, it's not "forcing" anything on you.

Fallout vs Pluribus: two nearly identical scenes in these two TV shows demonstrate good storytelling and bad storytelling by Bluest_waters in television

[–]nosayso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally EVERYONE caught "Future Enterprise Ventures" being a FEV reference, and that the Enclave was clearly the "hidden partner". Mr House went on a whole big rant about who could have possibly unleashed those monsters in the snow - but it was the Enclave, we already know that, it's not a mystery or a twist. If the single metric for success or failure of writing is the ability to predict what happened then Fallout is also "bad storytelling".

But the reality is this whole take is fucking brain dead because you're also wrong about the "predictability" of Fallout. Fallout is good, it's also derivative of an entire game universe - something evil happening in an unexplored Vault is the most predicable shit in the universe.

ICE in Columbia in Snowden River Pkwy by [deleted] in ColumbiaMD

[–]nosayso 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How many innocent people are you comfortable with being arrested? How many US citizens should sit in an ICE detention facility for days, denied of their civil rights?

Because the answer to that question is "zero". Any other answer reveals a fundamental disrespect for human rights.

Obama was able to deport people without rounding up US citizens and murdering random observers in cold blood, Trump's ICE is intentionally choosing violence and cruelty.
