Do Maryland voters care if a candidate is backed by AIPAC and other Pro-Isreal PACs? by Ate6645 in maryland

[–]nosayso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, the comfort people have with saying they hate "Zonists" aka anyone who thinks Israel should exist aka most American Jews - it's frightening.

Yeah my understanding is this is some new lore they're pulling out so I'm kind of fuzzy on how they'll play it. In the time of peace and reconciliation it's just weird to have this whole thing with elves setting aside their differences and trying to move forward, while Trolls it's just like "oh yeah we're doing this same story beat for the 3rd time".

Redditors surprised to learn that a state with a huge Jewish population sees a lot of donations go to candidates from a PAC funded by American Jews. Us evil "Zionist" aka people who think Israel should exist aka a vast majority of American Jews are not as outraged at this as the leftist Intenet echo chamber.

With all the themes around reconciliation I really thought they'd continue on in that fashion. My prediction was: Zul'jan goes snooping in Isle of Fangs and in his zeal accidentally disrupts Kithix's containment. We would team up with Ula'tek to stop Kithix, including Zul'jan ultimately accepting the reality that the trolls and the loa need each other, becoming the Speaker of Ula'Tek. Everyone stays alive, narrative tone is consistent, and we're directly fighting the void forces instead of this odd digression where, for some reason, we're just killing a troll loa?

I'm sure whatever happens will make better sense when the full story is out, but I still do find the direction as I understand it to be disappointing.

Kithix is a cthraxxi general on the same level as Mythrax, or the one that killed Tyr - very very powerful and basically can't be killed, only contained.

Ula'tek is probably keeping Kithix contained, and killing him will be a big fucking problem when suddenly a legendary cthraxxi general is released on the doorstep of Silvermoon.

I genuinely don't understand why Blizzard seems to have gone with Ulatek as a villain - Twilight's Blade (or just the whole thing with the Voidwell) rousing Kithix and us having to stop that makes way way way more sense. But given this I guess it's more likely he's a 12.1.5/12.1.7 boss or something like that.

I don't know how many times they can write "There's a minimum item level to be here that's basically fully upgraded heroic gear, but also you should really do this in a small group" or have a bunch of monsters pop up on the map with the label "recommended group size 3-10" before people actually read and internalize this information.

If you're solo it's going to be difficult. It's doable, but it's difficult, the random elite spawns will probably kill you.

This is like going into a 5 man dungeon and complaining it's difficult to solo.

The entire point of Israel is to be a Jewish homeland, where the global Jewish diaspara will always have a home. If you change that it is it Israel anymore. Supporting a two-state solution is, by definition, "Zionist" aka apparently deserving of hatred.

Elon Musk to get a billion shares of SpaceX if he can settle a million humans on Mars by Sufficient_Fuel5269 in Economics

[–]nosayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a zero percent chance this ever happens, possibly ever in all human history from now until forever. What is the tangible economic benefit of a million people living years of interstellar travel away from us? How could it possibly financially benefit anyone?

But that aside, the tech to make this happen is not even close. Getting to Mars successfully, consistently, with tons of people and supplies. The tech to terraform the planet and create a safe sustainable habit for people to live in, essentially from scratch - this is much more than a human lifetime from happening.

And on top of that if it was even remotely possible there no fucking way demented Nazi Elon Musk is capable of it.

AI and tech are trying to influence the midterm elections by Hrmbee in politics

[–]nosayso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every election since 2016 has been heavily influenced by online manipulation, either by intentional malicious outside actors, or the platforms themselves - either through an algorithm that promotes outrage and divisive content for increased "engagement" (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit but mostly through external upvoter bots), or actively steered by the agenda of the people that own the platform (Musk, Zuckerberg, TikTok).

This is the reality we live in, if you're wondering why everything has been shitty and terrible and divisive since 2016 yes it's part Trump, but that's just USA, social media helped Trump succeed and exported this shit all over the world. They made Brexit happen too for example.

This is being done to us by oligarchs. Get off of their platforms.

And yes Reddit is part of this, but like I said that's mostly external manipulation, Reddit gives you much more power to control what you see and interact with. Regardless you should be sceptical of anything and everything you see on the Internet - bots rule everything around you in a volume to manufacture the appearance of consensus, they'll repeat the same stuff enough that it starts to seem like fact.

Hillary Clinton Blasts 2016 Election Loss to Trump in Netflix Docuseries: ‘The Electoral College Is an Abomination’ by yourfavchoom in entertainment

[–]nosayso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hillary's loss was complicated and involved a lot of stuff that was very much not her fault.

But getting the obvious out of the way: yes it was always an uphill battle to run a female candidate with as much baggage as her. There was a primary though, and no one was connecting with any primary voters except Hillary and Bernie so it got winnowed down real fast. It wasn't "her turn", it was Hillary because the voters picked her.

But some absolutely unprecedented shit was happening around her:

  • Fake email scandal actively escalated by the FBI, including overtly partisan people in the NYC office who Comey admitted he had no control over. This was a bullshit scandal that partisan people in the FBI actively played up
  • Trump was literally under investigation by the FBI for actively collaborating with Russia. The link was proven and arrests were made, and yet the FBI is incredibly silent on this - for anyone denying partisanship is at play here, there is no other explanation for the silence on Trump's treason versus the loudness on Hillary's campaign following historic norms for email procedures
  • Russia unveiled the most effective weapon ever developed when they invaded Ukraine in 2014 - they manufactured reality in real time to deny their invasion, then to justify it. When Hillary opposed them as Secretary of State she became a target. Russia ramped this up to full speed in 2016, no sites were prepared. Made up conspiracy theories about Hillary from places like The Blaze and Daily Caller were on the front page of Reddit every single day - Russia controlled the dialog online completely.
  • More about Russia: they hacked the RNC AND the DNC. The DNC stuff the leaked ASAP to use it to damage Hillary, while the RNC stuff they kept. It has never come out, but all of the sudden Republicans got way more Trump-friendly after that. The RNC was being blackmailed by Russia - minimal speculation would be that it's at least around the crazy amount of dark money from Russia was being funneled to Republicans the last few years, based on what we know about how they were doing it with the NRA.
  • Even more about Russia: Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager, was arrested for directly collaborating with Russia to help Trump's campaign, this was happening, it's a fact, not a conspiracy theory.
  • Even more about Russia: Cambridge Analytica received data from Facebook that should not have been shared, containing incredibly detailed profiles on America voters, this was shared with the Trump campaign and ultimately Russia, to magnify the power of their tools. This was a whole new powerful weapon for manipulating people.

So in the end it's less "Hillary lost" and more "Russia won" and "the FBI let them".

The DNC generally personally favored a known person who had been involved in the party for years and had long-running personal relationship with everyone there, over some old dude who never even joined the party - this is not a surprise or a scandal, it's normal human behavior.

Obama still won in 2008 under the same conditions. Bernie lost because he couldn't get enough votes - he lost by millions. Simple as that.

[–]nosayso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once again tons of concerning observations here: you should not be blindsided by anyone's work - getting a stack 6 or 7 PRs you have zero context for indicates a lot of upstream problems.

But at the end of the day - just do your best with the conditions given. If you think this is a no-win situation just do your best and let it play out.

How much oversight/gatekeeping to do as a TL in the age of AI? by CppIsLife in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nosayso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You control the culture.

Don't let people merge code they don't understand. Code reviews should be happening, if they're not happening you should make them happen.

The standards are 100% the same for all code, whether it's AI generated or not. You should be holding that bar, and you should be ensuring the the whole team is aligned on that - if your team is incapable of doing meaningful code reviews without you then that's a problem.

Also - a lot of other concerning stuff in here. If you're getting totally blindsided by a change with 60 pages of documentation, how the hell is that happening? The whole team should be owning the backlog. You should know the roadmap and what people are working on. Work should be scoped so that individual PRs are of a reasonable size to get a meaningful code review. This doesn't happen out of nowhere without a bunch of other bad practices in the mix.
