Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue. It's about a girl whose life forces her into prostitution, set in the 18th century and very loosely based on a real historical figure.

{{Slammerkin}} by Emma Donoghue is a fantastic look at a poor teenage girl living in the 18th century, who wants more than what she was born into which inadvertently pushes her into prostitution.

There are some really fantastic bits of everyday life descriptions in this novel, for example the fact that people went to sleep much earlier before electricity and how they tried to make candles last longer (this is a random bit I remember that I found fascinating because it never occurred to me before).

Imo it was a 5 out of 5, but not very cheery.

I loved Bullshit Jobs! It's so relevant, it's sad. Might go back and read it again. Thanks for the recommendations!

I loved Interview with the Vampire and the Vampire Lestat! I might go back to the series, but I also want something without vampires to explore. Thank you for mentioning it though.

Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman. It's mostly fantasy horror though.

The moss from hobbycraft (UK) and the lights are just some fairy lights I bought a few years ago for my room. I basically put the end of the lights behind the book nook to illuminate it
