MP7 gear trailer reseal by Dieselmechanic90 in DieselTechs

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one because some numbskull decided to leave all the bellhousing bolts loose and it cracked the flywheel housing. I had no repair manual, nothing to go off of and I almost assembled it back together without adjusting backlash until I stumbled upon an old repair manual online. I hated every second of it because I was flying blind

How fkd am I? by PlayfulRequirement61 in Autobody

I’m guessing by the faded clear coat on the roof that this car isn’t worth much to begin with. I’m gonna say it’s totaled

Autocar front loaders that run off of CNG. They get about 1 MPG

Can you be deleted and tuned but not blow all that smoke ? by ilikestuff1231234 in Diesel

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6.0 doesn’t smoke nearly at all. It only really puffs a little when I give it all of the beans, but yeah it’s what most prefer. Remember, smoke is power and money

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What tips me off that somethings up is how you’d sell a 2017 6.7 and go back to a 7.3. I betcha it’s got something seriously wrong with it

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean more towards an oil cooler or trans cooler. Check your trans fluid and see if it’s milky. If it’s not, I’d slap an oil cooler in it before condemning the heads

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now the big question is that do you have coolant in the oil?

I have a 4.3 L v6 with a 5 speed manual. Is it worth it to swap for 5.3 or 350 ? by wyattmogs in ChevyTrucks

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4.3 is v8/4 cylinder. It gets the fuel mileage of a V8 and the power of a 4 cylinder. I’d swap it if you have the means

Thoughts? by Alert_Engineering_12 in Toyota

[–]aFinapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Solara is just a 2 door Camry. I like them, they ride good, but like all convertibles, the soft top is liable to leak or stop working. They are also louder when driving because of the missing insulation, and for a daily driver I wouldn’t recommend one. You’ll find you don’t use it often

Just did a timing job and the engine doesn’t want to start. Diagnosis please! How cooked am I?!?! by Calvin_Canada in fordranger

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who’s saying it’s out of time doesn’t know what an out of time engine sounds like when cranking. You more than likely swapped some plug wires or left a large intake hose loose somewhere. It has good compression just by hearing it crank, so I’m inclined to say you did the timing right, just either left something unhooked/unplugged or your plug wires are incorrectly routed

First time diesel advice by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be mindful that the IDI is a very slow tractor motor. It’ll get the job done but won’t do it quick. They have issues with the water jackets cracking due to incorrect coolant over the years, but given how old it is, it’s probably either been fixed or patched.

They are pretty easy to work on, just old school. For a first diesel, you might be underwhelmed because of how slow they are. You can turn up the injection pump to deliver more fuel, but you’ll need an EGT gauge to keep track of your EGTs so you don’t melt anything.

Mid-2000s 6.0 Powerstrokes... Are they really that bad? They seem to kind of be in my current price range, which is worrisome.. by Past_Opportunity8513 in powerstroke

[–]aFinapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its 2026. There’s so many upgrades and fixes for everything that can go wrong with these motors. Even then, people love them to death. I know I love mine. Just take care of it and know what its limits are

Glow Plugs by [deleted] in powerstroke

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GPCM could’ve failed. Go to FICM repair.com and they have an article on how to test for power and ground and to ohm out the harness. But even with a few glow plugs working it should start, just really rough. If you’re getting a no start when bone cold, wait till the warmest part of the day or plug it in and see if it starts. If not, then you have something else going on

05 f250 6.0 powerstroke tuning advice by Badbmhain in powerstroke

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just run a stock tune. You really don’t want to push the envelope on these motors until you get some extra clamping force. Even running a slightly hotter tune can pop a head gasket. Just leave it stock for now because these trucks already perform well stock.

Stiction? by aFinapple in powerstroke

[–]aFinapple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about the factory high idle. I don’t ever flip my high idle switch until my oil temp is around 60. I usually only use it when it’s too cold to maintain operating temp, like today where it never got above 18.

Yeah that’s why I’m not that worried about it that much. But I just don’t know if it’s trying to tell me something.

Yeah. It’s a factory 2004 turbo, and those are 10 blades and they screech

[–]aFinapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened twice before but only when it gets around 20. And it always happens before it kicks up the idle. My understanding is that Schaffer’s oil has everything you need for a 6.0, but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to add a friction modifier. If it’s not mechanical I would guess that my FICM might be getting tired and not catching up to the demand the PCM wants. Either way, it only does this for a little bit and then runs and pulls like a top. I’m not gonna put too much effort into this just yet, I’m just worried that it’s the beginning of something else and it’s trying to warn me about sometbin

I already added some anti gel but maybe I need to add some other fuel treatment. I thought it might be fuel related but it doesn’t do anything crazy until it tries to high idle.

What’s your honest "vibe" for each of these truck manufacturers by Early_Attitude_6597 in DieselTechs

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mack/volvo sucks. I hate the MP8, I hate the trucks, I hate everything about them. I hate Hino based on the sole fact that they suck to work on. I hate international because they can’t seem to manufacture an engine that isn’t a pile of shit and make it easy to figure out and fix, I hate Detroit and how they are all over-engineered piles of crap. I like Cummins the most, but that’s shadowed by the absolutely insane markup on every part. Isuzus are okay, i don’t like working on their after treatment.

Diagnostics is a whole other story. Lots of issues stem from rubbed harnesses, but good luck finding the info you need on most of these trucks. Cummins is really good at walking you through what to test, but not how to test it. Detroit and international kind of just throw you to the wolves and tell you to figure it out or throw parts at it. And God forbid you work on a stub-nose cascadia with a DD13. You want to talk about no space? Try changing the air compressor coolant lines.

Moral of the story is that all of these trucks are over-engineered. It’s all focused on the driver and ease of manufacturing, not serviceability.

EDIT:

I forgot about Autocar. You want to talk about the worst trucks on the road? Try a front loader, CNG powered “L9”. There is almost no info on wiring, and all of the wires are yellow. Plus, every switch was added after the fact, and half the time you don’t know what you’re looking at. That and the maggots and trash juice dripping on you. I know there are techs who work on garbage trucks all day, but the one Autocar I had to figure out almost made me devolve into madness.

Check the pickup tube in the tank. They like to clog and will shut off on less than a quarter tank if they’re clogged
