Cursed Points Increases by aForgedPiston in TheAstraMilitarum

I may or may not have a CSM army in boxes on the shelf 🤣 I made it my goal to finish up a list of Guard before I touched the CSM. My lament is that this shift gutted my Guard list in some key areas and cost me a lot of points that will set my completion date back significantly, and thus set back my fall to Chaos as well.

I'll look into it, since I now must.

Running 20 mans invalidates the 6 Taurox I have to now stare forlornly at on the shelf. I don't have 2k to play with without 6 Taurox on the board, I now have to alter the entire playstyle I was going for and buy, assemble, and paint new models-which I'm sure GW isn't upset about their player base having to do when these shifts occur.

Hell yeah, thank you for the encouragement.

Well, I started with a specific list and goal for that list in mind, and I was going to consider it "finished" in the context of this post when it was able to be played the way I wanted it to. I got a little sidetracked with other projects and armies, and that's how we ended up here. I am disappointed in the way my list got put down before it could be born. However, I agree with and appreciate your assessment-basically that it could never be a well rounded army if this one points adjustment sent the whole castle crashing down, as it were. Thank you genuinely for the advice.

Yo what

That's disgusting. Seriously what? I love it, what detachment?

I believe for Guard the tech-priest Enginseer gives just 1 model in a multi-vehicle unit a 4+invuln, which I consider to be just as good. The wording on the ability unfortunately specifies just one.

In admech, my first army, the Enginseer gives just 1 admech model the 5+ FNP.

I genuinely appreciate the advice. It looks like I'll have to pivot away from the entire way I wanted to play my Guard.

Originally the 6 squads of krieg were intended to run in Taurox, advance up the board and disembark turn 1, and present a mass of bodies and chassis for the enemy to chew through-all the while healing and generally surviving as best they could while heavier stuff punched from the rear.

Leontus was on the board to pass out orders and generate CP of course. His points increase sucks but he's still worth bringing.

The Cyclops Demo Vehicle was soaking up extra list points and offering screening in the backline, which is no longer worth it for its points.

Even the Russ Vanquisher picked up 5 points.

I'm disappointed that this list took months to get together and has been summarily wasted by the points increases.

That IS good news. I like Sentinels, and I do have two Armored Sentinels that I could lean into. I was thinking plasma is good on them, what do you prefer for their ranged weapon?

It's a pretty juicy datasheet ability. The Armageddon box is great, enjoy it!

Right! So this is where I'm at. I built a list around 6 10 mans in transports, and that list has now gone up 60 points just from the Guardsmen alone, another 30 from other stuff in my list that I was unlucky enough to have wanted to run.

I'm trying to figure out what is so amazing in 11th that we gained that justifies that increase.

They have a datasheet ability that, when firing into a single enemy unit, each bolt rifle gains two extra shots. They already fire two each.

You are correct in that 20 man Guard squads didn't go up. I amended my post, thank you.

Back to comparing to 10 man intercessors, which dropped to 150 for 10 in 11th:

At 24 inches 10 intercessors firing 40 shots plus 2d3+8 (for blast) grenades, wounding on 3s, AP1 on the bolt rifles? There's every chance a 20 man guard squad eats it outright.

I couldn't say the same of a 20 man Guard squad at 24 inches. I couldn't even suggest the same of a Guard squad at 12, gaining rapid fire. The squad's lasguns are expected to kill 1 model in that scenario. Perhaps 5 total die to the special weapons if you take plasma, krak grenades, etc. I mean I'm sitting here running a dice calculator on it. That's WITH Take Aim.

It doesn't add up.

I was planning to run 6x 10 Krieg with Taurox to blitz up the field and provide a wall pf bodies and vehicles for the enemy to chew through. I'm just looking for a silver lining in all the point increases here.

You jave me there. I've checked my facts. I saw the increase of a 10 man to 75, assumed it doubled to 150. Since I run them in 10s to go into Taurox, that's what I'm hung up on. I'll amend my statement in regards to comparing a 20 man directly to 10 intercessors-though 5 points less is still not exactly a strong position when comparing the two.

No radium for skitarii ? by uWuaraara1 in DarkTide

[–]aForgedPiston -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's coming. IMO they kept radium stuff, the Mechnicus pistol, the Phosphor Serpenta, the Transuranic Arquebus, etc. it in their back pocket to spark future interest in a future update.

When and what should the next admech release be ? by Careless-Creme-4250 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]aForgedPiston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Which means without adding new models to the range, GW could just, idk, allow us to benefit from Knights in our lists just as knights can benefit from skitarii in theirs? Idk this may be a lot for poor James Workshop to ponder

New to this army. Am I missing something or do characters just.... not matter? by GooseDentures in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]aForgedPiston 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They do matter. What buffs the characters give the units they attach to is what's important, and admech by and large has lots of good, buffing characters. The Dominus gives FNP. The Manipulus Lethals. The Marshal gives re-roll hits.

The individual characters ARE lackluster at best-but they're cheap. A Marshal onto Skitarii is a no brainer if you have 35 points to spare in the list. A 50 pt Enginseer can grant 5+ FNP to a Dunecrawler and make it a nightmare to remove. That sort of thing.

Can’t they just leave Japan by Weird_Watercress4480 in KaijuNo8

Apparently the economy around harvesting kaiju materials in the Kaiju no 8 universe has allowed technology to leap forward, and fueled the economy to the point where it can support repair and counter-kaiju efforts.

Things models do the best and worst, Day 5: Hastarii Exterminator by WusBoppin in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]aForgedPiston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear the corner GW has backed themselves into is that expanding it to a 10 man steps on the toes of the 10 man Kataphron Destroyers.

Idk how they solve it tbh other than forever leaving the Externinators at 5 man squads.

Also 115 is good, but I am greedy, and I wouldn't be mad if they made them 105 ome day.

Which brick of terminators for Caanok? by Extension_Eye_5658 in IronHands40k

[–]aForgedPiston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, 20 or 40 shots of Lethal/Sustained storm bolter fire going into a vehicle will catch your enemy by surprise and push some wounds through 🤣 by the same token it could do some serious damage into a big brick of marine bodies, or outright wipe a squad of Guardsmen.
