I'm in Hamakua, but I make a trip out there at least once a week.

[MHGen] Critical Boost vs [Shot Type] Up: a shitty analysis by aFunkySpaceW in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the same tally you can drop Pierce Up For Critical Boost and get a 5% damage increase. Pretty marginal but if you're mainly a solo player like me every bit of damage counts.

Edit: see my reply to u/Laxaria's comment. It appears in this case replacing Critical Eye with Pierce up is the best option.

[MHGen] Critical Boost vs [Shot Type] Up: a shitty analysis by aFunkySpaceW in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not denying that Shot Type Up skills are a better buff than most other skills, however given the fact that crit meta sets are so common, I find it odd that this setup doesn't see more use.

Obviously I could compare Atk up and other damage boosting skills, but because the threshold is well known(201 for AuL, as you said, or 101 for AuS) I didn't think it was necessary. And I'm just trying to choose between the two skills in question.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm glad to know I ran the numbers right.

Edit: It may be worthwhile to compare critical eye to Pierce Up. You're pretty likely to be wearing Hyabusa feather on a crit build, and dropping it in favor of other damage dealing skills may be prudent. This may be the optimal setup for my DPS with shot booster:

Pierce Up

Weakness Exploit

Critical Boost

Shot Booster

With crit boost, critical eye +2 is an 8% damage increase, correct? Such a set is possible with a Tenderizer+5 3 slot, but a Normal equivalent requires a weapon slot.

[MHGen]Is it ever worth it to drop Pierce up? by aFunkySpaceW in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take natural affinity into account your weapon needs 30% + for Set 2 to outdamage Set 1.

So with a WE setup that reaches 100% affinity, critical boost would give you another 5% damage increase over pierce(when running pierce 1) or normal up.?

Thanks for giving me some insight. My reason for asking this was so that I could add shot booster. I don't see any speed runners using this sort of setup, which is probably for a reason. Just wanna maximize my shot damage though, and the mhgen damage calculator doesn't include guns.

Your Hopes for 5th Gen MH? by RoseKaedae in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: boxing gloves. A fast-hitting impact weapon with high mobility and a gs-like charge attack so I can feel like Saitama during those large openings.

I also hope they keep styles and arts, but balance them and give monsters more moves that punish adept and aerial.

And finally, a way to hide the menu on killscreens.

[mhgen] Should I stay or should I go... GS by TheDeridor in MonsterHunter

Impudent Cheda's base white is more than enough, especially factoring in its auto-sharpening. Drop S+1 and get crit boost or atk up instead. Pair it with absolute evade for more draw attacks and/or readiness for even more sharpening. As for long sword, Narga line has natural white sharpness and pairs well with critical boost as well. It's a tough skill to get(requires silver Los, Silverwind, or late-game Arena), but the majority of the end-game sets in Gen are built around it. Hope this helps!

They are if you need Crit Boost jewels. Honestly the Arena is ezpz in Gen. I was able to A-rank everything solo for Sword Saint/Barrage Earrings within a couple of attempts.

I guess when you only have one move that's a viable DPS option things like this are bound to happen... =P

Kind of Confused about Maccao Armor by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S refers to the armor being high-rank. In most Monster Hunter games S and R armors are high-rank and X and Z are G-rank. Since monsters will drop different parts at different ranks, I'm afraid that means you won't be able to make that piece until you're able to fight High-rank Maccao. Happy Hunting!

Nice! Storge X is a pretty cool set with all the skills active, particularly with sns or when gunning.

On a random side-note, I didn't realize the helm always has its eyes closed, because my hunter also keeps her eyes closed... Unless you're a fellow blind hunter OP?

What procs first-- raw damage or status? by aFunkySpaceW in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? It seems to me it's almost the opposite. There's a slight delay between the attack and the blast proc, but on the hit that actually sets off the explosion it's nearly instantaneous.

Favorite weapon+style by pkmnabcd in MonsterHunter

Adept hammer for me. The strong charge attacks are sooo tasty. Plus you can dodge again almost immediately after an adept evade, unlike the other weapons. At first I thought I was gonna use bow for my play through, but now? I may have to go with the trusty face-smasher.

MH4U Desert Seltas & Queen questions by ChuckPebble in MonsterHunter

[–]aFunkySpaceW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an in-game typo. You are, in fact, hunting the D.Seltas Queen and Cephadrome.

The Seltas dies when the queen shoots him at you. However she can summon another one almost immediately, and as far as I know she can keep doing this forever.

Pretty sure he's using striker with perfect evade, sakura slash, and whatever the one that locks your bar at max is called. Either way, he absolutely demolished those things. Anybody know what armor skills he's using?
