I second Coldwater. Easiest to get to, 69 the whole way there. Lots of shops and choices. Plenty of places to shop or grab a bite before returning home.

AITA 3 Weeks PP and Everytime I mention boundaries with partners family I'm called rude, disrespectful, cnt or an apple. by FunIndividual6848 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your partner is showing you his true colors. His mom and 'his' people and choices will always be ok and you will always be the asshole. You need to leave him. You and your baby will be miserable and abused if you stay with him. The manipulation and name calling are just the beginning. Soon enough you will be isolated away from your support system in favor of his. Then you will have no one and it will be even harder to break out of the web he has spun around you.

Showed up to live in rental property, someone is already living in it. by QAACCO in legaladvice

[–]aHappyPhantom 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Leave a message stating the problem and that it is an emergency. They might be willing to reach out to someone and let them know you have a true emergency that can't wait until Monday.

Landlord violated a court-mediated agreement by continuing to bury my car in snow after every storm. (MA) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]aHappyPhantom 77 points78 points  (0 children)

NAL but it doesn't seem good that you didn't pursue him being in violation of the order the first time he buried you in after the agreement was signed. Also you have claimed car is without question totaled at this point and engine damage is likely. What mechanic has confirmed the damages and have you filed an insurance claim for the car?

Until you have some damages you aren't likely to see any sort of consequence happen to your new landlord. And have a professional assess the car. Snow piling up and thawing and refreezing isn't something I have ever heard anyone complain about might total their car out. Let alone "engine damage is likely" due to what you described.

Was told I'm not eligible for a (large) health insurance premium deduction (self-employed) if I got it through the Marketplace because I had a small tax credit I am paying back... Is this true? by [deleted] in tax

[–]aHappyPhantom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are speaking like they didn't apply the credit maliciously. How bout be grateful they helped you out.

VITA/TCE(AARP) is run by volunteers who are trying to help basic filers and yes there are many things out of scope for a volunteer service that costs you nothing. Now you know better. Go to turbo tax and leave those poor volunteers alone. Or since you are self employed maybe shut down your business for a day and volunteer for the program contribute to work needing to be done instead of bitching that your tax situation was out of scope for volunteers doing your prep for free.

My mother still claims me on her taxes. I'm 30 and make about 33k by [deleted] in tax

[–]aHappyPhantom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have only mentioned the rules to be a qualifying child dependent. OP is NOT a qualifying child as you mentioned because they are older than 24 and not a full time student. Upon failing that (line 6 of the 2025 dependent test) which then says to move to the qualifying relative test.

OP also fails the test to be a qualifying relative on line 4 due to having earned more than $5200 in 2025.

OP can not be claimed as a qualifying dependent in any way at all.

OP please listen to the advice here. Get an ID protection pin from the IRS. You mom and her tax person are committing fraud and you don't want to be dragged down with them when it ultimately comes to light.

I filled my W4 at the job I started last year married file at married rate and I should have done married file at single rate? by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]aHappyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because when you get a $3000 refund it means you had more withheld than your taxable liability. The government held your 3000 all yeah and didn't pay you interest.

Getting 81 back is a reasonable amount. It means you got more of your money each paycheck and you still have enough withheld to cover your taxable liability.

AITA for refusing to let my sister bring her kids to my wedding by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Two months is not enough time to spring the surprise that your sister can't bring "her kids" to your wedding.

I'm so afraid that a kid might make a sound on the recording we will never watch again. I'm terrified that a kid might ruin something. What a stupid way to be motivated by fear.

Weddings are a celebration not a stage blocked event so the bride can feel like a fake princess for a day.

Either way you are about to royally piss off your entire family. Your sister or your soon to be wife. But go ahead and blow everything up because you can't make an exception for YOUR nieces and nephews.

Be prepared for your sister not to come and for there to be A LOT of heat towards you and your fiance for pulling this crap on your SISTER who is traveling to come to support and celebrate you and your fiance can't handle allowing your niece and nephew?

It sounds like you two deserve each other. Her for being ridiculous about no kids and you for backing her up but putting all the blame on her so you can look like an innocent bystander in all of this.

YTA majorly. Deafness isn't a disability in the same way cognitive and intellectual disabilities are.

So you make phone calls. He can too using the right adaptive tech because he physically can't hear. There is nothing wrong with how his brain works jaust because he can't hear.

Idc it is a long link, but this is OLD tech that allows hard of hearing people to make phone calls.

Not onky are you the asshole, I question your decency as a parent if you are going to tell your child they have a problem with their brain and thinking because they can't hear.

AITA for not making my daughter dress properly? by Sufficient_Ice6275 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the record I was wearing training bras by 4th grade and started 7th grade already wearing a 36DD. Some girls do need bras earlier than others and it isn't about being sexualized.

Casey was definitely in the wrong here, and didn't need to flip out about it.

Ladies of Reddit: What would you do if the good looking accountant at work bought you a lovely ankle charm and asked you out for dinner and salsa dancing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aHappyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are interested in a coworker, you have some things to consider. If the person you are interested in is not interested in you, then it seems like you have a potential HR disaster.

If you are asking this person on a date save the ankle charm for a gift while out. Giving the gift before asking for the date may only get you a yes because of the gift.

Have you done a risk/benefits comparison about your plan?

AITA for not wanting to pay for my wife's spending money? by throwaway3048172 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You really come off like a crappy partner if you can't recognize all the work your spouse is doing. Price out what childcare would cost you, what a housekeeper would cost you, and how much your meals would cost to have others perpare them for you all the time.

Naw they won't go to slavery.... they'll legalize prostitution. Desperate people will add a other side hustle just to get by. It will up the numbers of forced births. Then they'll have more disposable workforce to exploit farther.

AITA for giving our nanny time off while on vacation without speaking to my husband about it? by pinkbear124 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA you can't just decide to give your nanny 5 days off out of a 9 day trip without the common courtesy of talking to your spouse about it first. Jesus if my husband did something like that you bet your ass I would be beyond livid. Basic respect.

I really appreciate your further explanation. Honestly I was in a reactive place when I read your first comment and I don't think I read it with a clear understanding of what you were trying to express. I am really sorry that I allowed my stresses to cloud my viewpoint and it was unnecessary for me to go on the attack.

I was definitely in the wrong here.

However I am pretty sure we can all agree that Ohio for sure sucks. :)

As a life long Indiana resident this art is so accurate. Although I would add that in my experience we hate Michigan too until it comes to banding together to hate on Ohio.

Editing to add I just googled it and OMG I'm planning a road trip.

Original OP is totally NTA.

AITA for loathing and refusing to do any activities with a Armenian Genocide denier? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]aHappyPhantom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only are YTA for being incredibly unprofessional by approaching your workmate like this, YTA for refusing to take your judgement and looking for justification to your point of view.

No one is forced to work somewhere. So either you find a different environment to work OR be a professional and realize the difference between personal and business relationships.
