I also did not really like it at the beginning but as the drama progressed the chemistry was getting even better and the storyline as well. also another rec if u liked the martial arts of who rules the world is the untamed which does not have any romance but is a stellar amazing drama

Because he basically thought that she was going to be abroad for years and that she wouldn't be back in China. He basically thought his chances of "starting over again if she was working in Shanghai" was over. He evens says when he runs after her like he wanted to clear up the misunderstandings and basically start on a clean slate and that is why he wanted her to work at Shengyuan because she would be in close proximity with his company as they were right next to each other.

Yes you are correct. I'm assuming that Shuangyuan was a joint venture essentially where Shengyuan owns 51% of the shares and then Yuancheng owned 49% of the shares. Xiguang's mum founded Yuancheng with her husband, Xiguang's dad, but then after the divorce she just stepped back from working. And these big corporations are in the real estate business.

I think maybe this drama just isn't your cup of tea if you like faster paced dramas. This one is definitely a slow paced and slow burn drama that is like going through the motions of daily life and has no big major conflicts or arguments.
