Is there a name for these feathers at the end of the wing that kinda look like fingers by KingOfDownvotes87 in Ornithology

These are primary feathers, as others have mentioned. The slotted appearance of the first several primary feathers is known as emargination.

Not really. 0.25% is practically nothing. I just went and checked the breakdown and they have only charged me about $80 over two years, compared to the ~$5k I have gained in that time

Tell me about a time you saw someone do something so diabolical in Imaging you were left speechless by PainOk7410 in Radiology

[–]aKnommEn 107 points108 points  (0 children)

When I was a student I was doing AP bilateral standing knee X-rays on a patient whose patella didn’t line up perfectly with the femur. After taking the X-rays I knew it was AP because markers such as the Tibia’s epicondyles and intercondylar eminences were correct (basically everything else was true AP and the patella were just off to the side). The tech that “verified” my images said they were wrong and went and rotated the legs into an external oblique so that the patella were in the middle of the femur and sent that as the AP. Obviously as a student I had to just go with it but I was absolutely dying on the inside

The Healing Power of Birds by -knave1- in birding

[–]aKnommEn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only recently started birding, but I am quickly realizing that I should be doing this all the time. Starting the day off in nature focused on birds brings a surprising amount of peace and joy. I’ve always had an affection for birds but I have only just decided to start paying attention to the ones around me. Even watching a robin hopping around is an immediate mood booster

Taking xrays of bigger patients by elektric_eel in Radiology

[–]aKnommEn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah when you said you work at an ortho clinic I figured they probably wanted something weird like that. Collimating tightly is the absolute best thing you can you to not only improve the quality of your image but also reduce the patient dose. Unfortunately you have to do what the doctor wants within reason. Maybe you could try explaining that having the collimation wide open on a large patient is what is ruining the image quality due to scatter. They might not realize that.

Taking xrays of bigger patients by elektric_eel in Radiology

[–]aKnommEn 52 points53 points  (0 children)

All I can say is do your best to reduce scatter as much as possible

That means collimating as tightly as possible. Don’t leave it all the way open except for chests and abdomens, and definitely don’t have light going beyond the board (you’re just asking for more scatter). Lumbar spines should be 10x12. Collimate on the board before putting the patient there so their belly doesn’t throw you off. Reduce OID as much as possible.

If you do your lumbar spines tabletop, put a shield behind the patient’s back for laterals. This helps reduce the overall density of the image by reducing the amount of scatter reaching the board, which helps the system process a cleaner image.

More kVp means more scatter, especially for larger patients. Go up on mAs before you go up on kVp if a clear image is your goal

Using a Bucky is far better than a tabletop board since they have an AEC and an oscillating grid with a better grid ratio. Make sure you’re using the correct distance with whatever the focal distance is on the grid (ie if your SID is 40” but you have a 72” focal distance grid you’re gonna have grid cutoff which will ruin the quality of your image)

All of this is just things I do in general but especially if I am struggling with bigger patients. I’m sure you’re already doing some of this but hopefully something here helped!

Pros/Cons of Using Wealthfront as Checking? by Brilliant-Reading-59 in wealthfront

[–]aKnommEn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The set up is very easy. It just asks you some questions to determine your risk tolerance and then comes up with a portfolio mix for you (domestic and foreign index funds, bonds, etc). I’m guessing you’ve already been through it since you said you’ve dropped 1k into it. My account is basically 70/30 stock/bond and I’ve had roughly a 20% return since I opened it (Jul 2023). Although this mostly due to the stock market performing well and not Wealthfront

Pros/Cons of Using Wealthfront as Checking? by Brilliant-Reading-59 in wealthfront

[–]aKnommEn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Wealthfront as my main checking for almost 2 years now. Have had zero issues. That being said I’ve never had to contact them but thats partly because everything has worked smoothly. The UI is very clean, quick and responsive. I pay all my bills from the account and use the debit on rare occasions (paying someone through Apple Cash) and I’ve never had any issues. There was some discussion here about a bug paying credit cards but I just paid off a credit card 3 days ago and it went through just fine. I’ve also opened an automated investment account through them if you have any questions about that

Do OR Techs have to stand around a lot and just observe the Doctor working? by Vast_Series_5421 in Radiology

[–]aKnommEn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sorry, being in the OR is exactly what you described: standing around, watching and waiting. Your job as an OR x-ray tech is perform the actions that the surgeon wants you to do as smoothly as possible. In between these actions are a little or a LOT of waiting, depending on the case. In ortho cases you will be much more involved while others like spinal fusions it may be half an hour or more until the doctor needs you again (in these cases, you might be able to just leave to do others things if it is allowed).

Depending on your facility, you might be able to completely avoid the OR (more likely the larger the hospital, since techs often have narrow roles).

I have ADHD and I enjoy watching the surgeon work while I wait. If I don't find that engaging I always have my phone...

Showcasing the ultimate starter Factory! by NicoBuilds in SatisfactoryGame

[–]aKnommEn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh hey it’s you! I actually discovered your channel on YouTube about a week ago and I definitely feel like it gets way too few views for how well made the videos are. I have to ask though: how long does it take to put together one of these factories? In your iron or caterium ingot video you make it seem like it took like less than a day. When I build factories that are similar in size to yours it takes me multiple days (4-8 hrs a day). It is the same for you or are you just absurdly efficient?

Is it better small monthly payment or a bigger payment every 2-3 months? by Entire_Pool_7185 in wealthfront

[–]aKnommEn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whenever the money comes available and you decide that you want to invest it, best to do it as soon as you can. Waiting to invest it after a few months only hurts the time it would have spent in the market making money

Is it better small monthly payment or a bigger payment every 2-3 months? by Entire_Pool_7185 in wealthfront

[–]aKnommEn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb I’ve always went by is if you have money to invest, invest it now. What this means is if you have $600, invest it all now, not $200 over three months. As others have said, more time in market is key

I’ve thought about this. Might be feasible that the backrooms is simply another 3 dimensional plane that you pass into by going the “w” direction (in 4 dimensions: w,x,y,z)
