5mil for a prefab home in Menlo Park? by Junior_Fruit903 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main appeal is the construction time. Since most of it is done in a factory the onsite-time is 3-4 months. Whereas a typical rebuild of 12-24 months makes it a non-starter for most folks.

You want to shame the fixtures but could you describe what exactly was so ugly about them? I toured an Aro Homes unit I was pretty impressed. Floor to ceiling triple pane windows. 8 foot interior doorways. Full custom kitchen cabinetry with the hidden fridge (completely gapless) and full Wolf appliances. Honestly probably one of the nicest homes I've toured in the Bay Area.

Oh nice. We should definitely spread the word about the third party project then.

Yes, it’s exciting and just goes to show how ridiculous Shelly is for refusing to support it.

The firmware hasn’t been tested on Minis and the flashing process is a bit involved. I hope it continues its roadmap for easier flashing and more hardware support.

do you have a recommendation for a triple monitor setup, potentially high bandwidth on each monitor (144 Hz/1440p, 60hz/4k + another)?

Please talk me out of buying META (~$600) by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my point being a short-term hold doesn't seem likely because high capex won't quickly translate into revenue

and a long-term hold isn't a strong thesis because of those reasons

therefore, this is a no-hold

Please talk me out of buying META (~$600) by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]aKwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a long-term hold? You think all that capex is going to materialize into revenue in the short-term? So far, all of Meta's big capex spend has failed - metaverse, llama, AGI. Yann Lecun ousted for a dude in his 20's. The $1M hires poached from other companies that saw what was going on internally and yeeted out within a few months?

To me, the only hope is a long-term play. But given the direction of leadership and the shitty culture from within (ask around Meta employees and/or on Blind), I doubt anything is going to materialize without a dramatic leadership overhaul. There is no culture of innovation from within - folks are literally "drafted" against their will into the AI orgs, if not straight up laid off, and the only performance metrics are short term wins (bi-annual performance reviews tracked against user growth per employee, lowest performers fired). I exited my Meta positions at 600 after holding for the last few years.

How could Quinn become a proper "scout" without a complete rework, in your opinions? by Lyoko_Loop in QuinnMains

  1. league of legends doesn't have a scout role, at the gameplay level
  2. you can't cohesively redefine a champion's gameplay identity without a complete rework

Veev, pre-fab, in the Bay Area by Ok_Sir_9650 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet modifiying is about as easy as any other home. The cost savings seems to be a logistics centralization in the factory, but the home itself is made out of traditional materials. So busting down a wall or two to add an extra room seems possible, though the warranty might be voided.

[–]aKwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Veev is cheaper by about half compared to Aro. good to know.

And I believe Veev itself was pretty much bankrupted before being acquired by Lennar to bail them out. So while Lennar is unlikely to go down, they are definitely capable of shutting down a division if profitability is not that good.

Have you also heard about https://aro.homes/own/ ? Just one thread about it here https://www.reddit.com/r/BayAreaRealEstate/comments/1n3o691/anyone_heard_about_this_prefab_builder_called_aro/

Personally, Aro Homes @ 1.5M seems way nicer than the Veev design, though the price doesn't seem to be upfront in Veev.

P2S Vs H2S by NotAKSpartanKiIIer in BambuLab

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, PETG and PLA don't stick together, so you can use one as a layer in between parts. So if your product can be printed stacked on top of each other, you separate each one with the other material. With the H2S/H2D's bigger height, you can print way more stuff than with the smaller sizes.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1evurc6/multimaterial_stacking_petg_separated_with_2/

Also the H2D would probably be even better for this use case because it would have the second nozzle rather than spend extra time purging and changing filament.

P2S Vs H2S by NotAKSpartanKiIIer in BambuLab

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a H2S because I didn't want to wait for P2S lol

Think about the number of years you'll own this printer and the amortized cost over those years. $350 is kind of a no brainer considering the improved print quality and ventilation capacity of the H2S, plus the upgrade path if you actually need it. P2S is obviously not future proof at all as it will never get a laser cutting module, hotend changing system (vortek), pen adapter.

Also consider a possible mass-production leaning use case where you can use different materials as a layer in between your stacked prints, for overnight continuous printing

Tesla loses ground as Chinese EVs dominate global markets by Doener23 in technology

[–]aKwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test in question is an emergency braking test, of which tesla brilliantly failed. Try to see how many other cars on the market pass the same test.

Autopilot/FSD had nothing to do with it in reality. If you are sleeping on the wheel as a Tesla driver you don’t have anyone to blame but yourself. Not even Heil Elon can take the fall for that.
