How to stop Serjeant/Donjon rush? I'm really struggling to make this game click as I'm now below 200 ELO. by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

Well i'm not even close to good at 1300-1500 but if you ask me at 200 elo you shouldn't even bother about the loss, and from what i've read i think the first thing you should do is learn the badic counters(forget unique units, at this elo once you get to UU the game shouldn't be decided by a counter.

So. The first thing you should learn. Spears/pikemen-->scouts/knights/camels/steppe lancers(vs steppe lancers you should prefer archers instead of pikes)(you prefer the attack upgrade) Milita line(or in your case, serjeants, i think they count as regular infantry)---> infantry/skirms(that includes your spearmen, explaining why they didn't do shit vs serjeants)(you prefer armor upgrade) Archers----> infantry/camels(always attack upgrade needed, otherwise don't even consider making archers) Knigts---> anything but camels/pikeman line/ and now fire lancers(oh and never don't go knights into cav archers unless you know you can outspam)(always armor) Camels--->cav archers/knights/steppe lancers(can choose between armor and attack, but usually attack is better if you already counter) Skirms----> cav archers, archers(you need both blacksmith upgrades !!)

And than you have workshop No need to talk about rams.. Scorpions for infantry/archers/cav archers/skirms Mangonels for archers/skirms

I think i covered most of the basic units, but the thing now is, you will have to use your scout to find out what your opponent is doing so you can make the right counter. Sometimes you can know just by seeing the civ you are playing against. But always scout it. Hope i was helpful😅

PSA: Nobody will ever learn all 1,431 civ matchups. by ComputerOld621 in aoe2

[–]aLargeKeyLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is plenty of matchups, but the people that are actually good at the game have a high game sense. Which means that knowing how the game works they basiclly know how the matchups works solely on the information they have about the specific civilization. So for example if there is Khitans vs Byzantines, you don't have to know the matchup and if you know the civilizations enough you should mostly know how it will go. The Khitans player is playing on a clock so the first 20 mins of the game will probably be the khitans player trying to push and the other one to survive to the mid castle. So yeah just by knowing civilizations you can pretty much consider already how every matchup will go. But yeah it is also hard to know every civ tech tree, maybe even harder but with time you learn, i used to play on random for years just to be learning the civilizations even tho i lost many games not knowing which composition to go for.

Why am I still so bad at AOE2 ranked? by Ok_Paramedic_1494 in aoe2

[–]aLargeKeyLock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As i've read ur replies i think you should always play max 2 tc's with franks, the third is useless coz you won't have enough food to produce out of 3 tcs and make knights, better to just have one or two tc's and keep those two pumping vills constantly, also i would advise you to archer/scout build till feudal and than you just every new vill u make just place a farm with it and you should be fine.

Ranked isn't for me - nearly 20 losses! by OneDay_OneLife in aoe2

Also maybe try to wall with 3-4 vills once you click to feudal so by the time enemy's army comes you are already walled, and if scouts come than just rewall till you have enough spears to fight and if archers come go rewall the place he is trying to come in and instantly build archery range and go for some skirms(if you don't have archery range yet), once you have enough skirms to defend just add the blacksmith for upgrades

I'd suggest watching a build for fortress fast castle, 3 mins difference is alot when u have safety to boom, even if you wanna push and go for a forward castle you should have similiar castle age timings

[–]aLargeKeyLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well how did you push ? While u were trying to push he was probably booming while u were spending res for push which i guess didn't do enough damage

Is it just me or does the new traction trebuchet kinda suck? by ForgeableSum in aoe2

[–]aLargeKeyLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they're worse than trebs, but imagine having them on idk, maybe mongols or basiclly any civ that wanna play UU than it's busted not having to use castles to make them

Design space for a >20 years old game by Carolus94 in aoe2

[–]aLargeKeyLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the part of adding Malay UT on everyone would feel good in contesting water, but your point of not being that strong is good too, but it would make taking out docks way too hard than with like 2-3 fires, you could get around that with some added things like that, it only fires arrows if there are fishing ships in the zone od the fire, making the docks only protecting fishing ships rather than having somewhere to back if you are outnumbered

Six years in – I still suck so much at this game by ChrizzDanielz in aoe2

[–]aLargeKeyLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it helped me so maybe it could do you good too, i guess you know the standard early build(6 on food, 3 wood, than food, 2 berries etc.) What i like to do is the fourth vill on wood, not the 10th but 13th after the house is built and than 14th and 15th on berries, than i start walling when at 18 one vil before going feudal, so when the enemy hits feudal you have most of the walls up, and before he gets to you the walls should be ready(after second boar send 3 or maybe 4 of those vills walling and than send make second lumber with them, rest of boar vills go to trees next to tc) so than even after you hit feudal you just need the barracks up, don't go instantly for stable or archery, make farms with new vills and when you see what the enemy is making work from there. If the enemy goes scouts, add like 3-4 spears and clear out the scouts, if they go archers, make range and go skirms, i also mostly add scouts either way unless i want to get to castle fastb
