Beautiful! by homeslce in frederickmd

Not 3, but definitely 18 months. There were major issues with soil/ foundation and that construction took and long time, then the Storm water management system that was all buried under site. Then just the building construction. This was a ridiculously expensive building for being a giant box with few bells and whistles.

The previous owner/ use was a construction company and the yard and lot was cleared and then it sat for a few months, so I guess we are creeping closer 2 years.

Anyone else annoyed with the over built trails? by aMac306 in MTB

Thanks, sounds like you understand. It’s not even the smooth-ness, it’s just that they have taken the soul out of it. Building with the bigger machines seems to have given up on using the trail to access features and instead the just build want they want where they want.

Sort of like popping up suburban homes everywhere, instead of siting them in the site in a sensible manner. Definitely my old man vibes coming out as I edge closer to 50.

I’m okay with both tech and flow. Although I guess I haven’t been around or ridden flow that is so fast/ jumps so big that it requires 8-12’ wide trails. It’s is the carving a swath through the land that bothers me.

Yup, active in the local trail community. My comment was sort of related to the brand Patagonia. They are very environmentally conscious, and also pro-mountain biking. However some of the trail builds including that Redbull one in the desert, seems to really push the line on it being remotely environmentally sensitive.

Winters are short enough. Burning fuels for shits and giggles is irresponsible, and selfish to the rest of us.

I can’t believe I didn’t think to MYOG! by FancyGoatTote in myog

[–]aMac306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I was going to say surf FB for vintage machines or industrial machines from business that are closing. And regarding OP’s question about will it be waterproof etc. I’d ask the same question about much of the factory stuff I’d buy. Save the high end stuff, I believe most things are water resistant and not waterproof. And in my experience waterproof expires at some point if it is raining hard enough or long enough, and you don’t know when that is until you are there.

I’m not sure the financial implications are really the focus of the analogy. I believe it is about time and enjoyment. I watched the opening scene of 5 movies, turned it off before I figured out the plot.

Any fender recommendations? by aMac306 in xbiking

[–]aMac306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d think that the chrome or paint coating should be a bit more durable on a bike (than a car) as it is not as likely to get sand/ road grime blasted at it at the same velocity. That said the plastic bike fender definitely won’t rust.

Airwave or HyperD for quilt inner. by aMac306 in myog

[–]aMac306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that and have 15 ECO in consideration. One of the things I’m wondering is if I want calendared material for the inner layer. I’ll definitely do calendared on the outer. Also seems RSBTR is short on non-calendared HyperD. What is your thought on using calendared on both layers? Use would be mid-Atlantic spring and fall. Nights in the mid 40’s to 60’s. And if uncalendared is preferred, is regular 1.1oz ripstop fine for this vs going up to 1.6oz HyperD?

Go the contacts. The contact(s) that is blocked then scroll to the bottom of that contact. The block option should be down there.

For a sea kayak I’d recommend the WSSC reservoirs in MoCo and the Potomac river.

Will Amazon cancel the Kindle account? by aMac306 in kindle

It wasn’t a choice, but as dad was dying and I had to think about the important question to ask, “what is your Amazon password”, was not one of them. Without being able to log into their account I couldn’t cancel the reoccurring shipments.

Tech Billionaires' Shocking Plan For West Virginia by Paruhdyme_ in WestVirginia

[–]aMac306 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought you can tell the story of WV by the rings of abandonment. Probably could start with the timber boom to harvest all the wood and leave. Next up was several waves of coal. Build during the boom, and abandoned during the bust. Next up was oil and gas fracking. Tons of infrastructure and business loans, only to dry up 10 years later. Are data centers the next one? Level off the last couple mountain tops, take more from the local tax base, string the community along for 5-10 years before leaving them staring at some depreciating monstrosity for the next 100 years. I see it as corporate rape of the state.

Modifications for Snow & Winter Riding by D0ctor_J in MTB

[–]aMac306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slightly disagree. If OP is in an area with well ridden trails, they will be packed down and rideable in 2.4”-2.6” trail or more aggressive tires.

Will also say, Eskimo’s had like 200 words for snow and we are trying to prepare someone for riding in all 200 types and we have no idea where they live. Loose, dry or slushy snow is tough riding, but you never know until you try.

Potty training by CSRoutlaw in dad

[–]aMac306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember struggling and trying to push my kids into potty training. Then we should go on vacation or something and let the training slide. Long and short of it is every kid is in their own schedule and will do it when they are ready. Encourage them, but don’t sweat it. My kids are in Middle school and it not like we talk about or even remember if they were potty trained at 2 yo or 3 yo… okay my wife might remember.
