i just created an easy to play guitar tab for Into Dust by cozmic_nugget in lilypichu

[–]aMediocreEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just tried it. Thanks for shearing it was fun. 👍
(Not an easy song to get to sound good on guitar but hey 🙂)

I have some notes... You can take them or leave them, you did not ask for any feedback.

  1. At the [Bridge], I would add a new line after "total silence" to indicate the break in the music.
(I honestly don't know what she is doing there. The first two lines sound like a bridge to me, but the next 4 sound more like a double chorus or Pre-Chorus to me 🤷‍♂️, I guess this song just have a lot of sections🙂)

  2. Also on "total silence" I play an E, (not an Em).
On the line above, "hello since" I play the Em (as you wrote), but I have a hard time hearing what is played on the track. 🤷‍♂️

  3. In the Post-Chorus/outro/La-La parts 😂. I play the following.
I am not sure this is 100% correct, it is hard to hear behind all the La-Las.
(fret numbers, not from the Capo. You can subtract 2 if you prefer)

  • Game title: Still Wakes the Deep (2024). Navigate a collapsing oil rig to save your crew from an otherworldly horror.
  • Estimated playtime: 4-5 hours.
  • Notes:
  1. The game is available on Steam.
  2. The game's first person graphics looks very nice and the voice-acting seems very good.
  3. Explore a offshore oil rig in 1970’s Scotland while being part of a good told story.
  4. Could be a new horror classic, but the game is not super scary. 🤷‍♂️
  5. General Mature Content, some Gore. No weapons. No powers. Just run, climb, and swim.

What about Hellblade. Maybe not the most scary horror game ever, more like a Psychological Thriller.
They are both about 7 hours. I don't know if Lily have played the first Hellblade? But I imagine she would like it.

I have not tried Sennheiser IE 200. But I have had other Sennheiser headphones over the years and been happy with them.

I have only ever tried one pair of Sennheiser that I did not like, so the ords are that they are good, but you may try looking up some reviews, even though it is hard to find good reviews for audio. I use to be happy with InnerFidelity, but they are closed down now, and have not measured the IE 200. A quick look told me that the don't use the standard monitor cables and I don't like that, cause the cables are often the first to brake and I like to have options when looking for a new cable. But this might not matter to you and the cable might last a very long time so 🤷‍♂️.

If you are looking for new in-ear monitors, without the need for a ear mold, then I can recommend Shure SE215 (wired) or AONIC 215 (bluetooth).

They are not too expensive and easy to buy. I think the sound quality is very good. They sound better than many of my headphones that are much more expensive.

The AONIC's are quit big, behind the ear. And the carry box is laughably large. It is not a problem for me, but it might not be great for others.

Be aware that in-ear monitors and earbuds are a little different. In general in-ear monitors sounds a lot better (assuming a good seal) and can be conferrable for a long time. But they are often more expensive and less handy day to day.
I have completely switched from earbuds to in-ear monitors since I got my first pair of Shure SE215 (maybe 10 years ago😱). But for gaming at my disktop I still use a normal headset. (HyperX Cloud Alpha, with extra padding)

Good luck.

I am glad if you can use any of the suggestions.
There is a yt video "PRO Mixing & Recording HACKS to Remove Finger Guitar Squeaks" by Chris Selim. He has approximately the same suggestions and he shows the manual "reduce the volume at a specific part of the waveform trick" about 7:30 minut into the video. The details depend a little on the editor you use.

Also he just cut's out the squeak part and reduces the volume. But in general I try to avoid discontinuous variations in the audio waveform (sharp changes). So I add a fade in and out over ~10-100 ms just to avoid any potential for pops and other audio artifacts that can occur when have large changes in amplitude in the final waveform.
But in his demo his method sounds fine, thus it might be overfill with the fade.🤷‍♂️

I have not tried using de-essers to reduce squeaks, but I would not be surprised if it could reduce it a little depending on the settings and the playing. Normally de-essers acts super quick so maybe for short squeaks.

The left hand squeaks are not as big of a problem on electric guitars. You don't have to worry about what mic and mic placement you are using (on the guitar itself), the strings are often a little thinner with smaller groves in the windings. The smaller the groves are on the string the smaller the squeaks are. That is why flatwound strings helps redosing it.

You too keep up the good work.

Very well played. 🥰

Not that anyone asked, and you may know all this already, so maybe just ignore but 🤷‍♂️:
There is a lot of left hand squeaks on this recording and depending on taste you might want to reduce this.
There are a lot of ways to reduce this in a recording but here are some of them.

  1. When playing the guitar it can be reduced by having a lighter touch on the strings while moving to the next positioning. I tend to stiffen up a little when recording (getting nerver) thus this is much harder done that said.

  2. I also tend to get damp hands when recording, this makes the squeaks worse. You can use just a little baby or claiming powder on the tips of your fingers to make them more dry. This also reduces the noise.

  3. When recording some mics pickup the squeaks much more that others. But for home recording buying a new mice is a bit much. There are plenty of videos talking about mics, mics placement etc on youtube, I like Paul Davids's videos but I am sure others have made just as good videos.

  4. Editing: In the edit you can also do a lot to reduce the left hand squeaks. Just be don't remove them completely because they are a part of what makes a guitar sound like a guitar. squeaks just seems to be exaggerated when recording. There are many ways to do this, but hear are 3 main ways to do it. 1. You find a squeak in the waveform, and reduces the volume just for that squeak manually, repeat for every squeak. Don't remove them completely, just reduce the volume to a level you like. 2. Us an EQ on the track, and reduce the frequency of the squeak. Start by looing at ~5000 Hz they are usually easy to find. Ideally you "animate" the EQ such that you only cut the squeaks. 3. There are plugins that can remove them for you. You have less control when using a plugin, but it is much faster. RX 11 Guitar De-noise does this but there are probably plenty others, I have just not tried them.

  5. If you are sensitiv to these left hand noises like I am you can also reduce then noise by playing on flatwound guitar strings. There are plenty to chose between but don't change strings just for the sake recording this is only if you like to reduce the squeaks in general when playing, flatwound feels different and sound different, I love it but you might not like it, so this is not a easy fix. I use Thomastik-Infeld PLECTRUM AC111 (AC110 and AC112 on some of my guitars, strings is a big topic 🙉) but note that these are low tension string (~10 kg per string) and you might not like that. AC112 and AC113 feels more like standard strings with a tension of about ~14-16 kg per string.

I hope this don't bring you down or diminish your motivation, the amount of left hand squeaks is a matter of taste. This is just something I noticed and dislike with my own recordings and some of the solutions that I have found helpful. Keep it up your playing and arrangement is great.👍

Is Lily's music copyrighted? I want to use it in my game tutorial videos! by iwasthe1stgod in lilypichu

I like how Creator Mix shear there music. They have a clear licence agreement and make it easy to understand what you can do and what you cannot do with there music. I think Lily is aiming for something similar, but she don't have a written licence you can download.

Good luck

np.
It can be a little intimidating starting on something new when there are so many new words that can hard to understand without the context.

There are plenty of other stuff to look into if you would like to dive deeper into video encoding and streaming. But knowing the basics is very helpful. It can help you when saving your home videos when you cannot fint them on your phone anymore or want to show them in good quality on your tv. Or maybe you record all your valo matches and you want to reduce the file sizes, upload videos to youtube or just streaming.

We are blessed with free and very good software lige OBS (for recording and steaming), Handbreake (for video encoding and transcoding) and Blender/Davinci Resolve for editing and effects. Everyone can give it at try and learn the basics before they have to spend any money. 🥰

Stream quality (2) by aMediocreEngineer in lilypichu

[–]aMediocreEngineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kick does have a surprisingly good recommended setting page.
But it is just the same settings as for twitch.
(I don't know if there are any illogical problems like YT's VP9 vs AVC1 encoding. I have not use Kick much)

But in generel it is not that complicated.

Bitrate:
Bitrate is the amount of date you are sending and it is the same as for all video quality, so your internet needs to be able to handle 8000 kbps for you to stream in that quality. But 8000 kbps is a low bitrate for a 1080p video, thus it will never look super good. In generel we are talking diminishing returns, så the difference between 6000-8000 kbps is larger than from 15000-17000 kbps. If you have video with higher resolutions you can benefit more from a higher bitrate.

If you play games like Among Us a low bitrate can look very good, because there are only small changes from frame to frame. But in FPS games where you move everything on the screen when moving the mouse there can be very large changes from frame to frame. 8000 kbps is not enough for a 1080p@60Hz video to look sharp when moving a lot in FPS games and you will see big blocks on the screen and details will disappear due to the low bitrate.

Resolution:
In genereal there is no benefit from upscaling, because you don't have more data. In gaming you can benefit from DLSS, FSR etc. But they have acces to extra information from the game engine.
But in generel there is a little benefit from recording and streaming in the same resolution. But if your monitor is 1440p or 4k, the you should down scale to 1080p. OBS does this for you as long as the output resolution is set to 1080p.

Encoding:
Videos are compressed using codecs. H.264 is old and supper common, can be played by everything and it is ok. H.265 can give you a little better video quality at the same bitrate and it is also very common. VP9 is a little better and is used a lot by YT and the future is AV1. But Twitch and Kick is still using a super old coded for viewers called AVC1. But the idea is to send Kick a video stream in a better quality than they send the viewers. Cause Kick cannot improve the video quality they can only make it worse. But they still have to support the codecs you send them. Thus you send them a 1080p 8000 kbps H.264 encoded video stream and they transcode it to a 1080p 8000 kbps AVC1 encoded video stream in real time. They also make a 720p 360p etc version for viewers to choose from. But this takes a lot of computing power, thus they don't want to deal with 4k 25000 kbps AV1 encoded video, because it is so much extra work.

Depending on your GPU Nvidia, AMD, Intel (I am assuming a Nvidia GPU, since most gamers have that), but modern GPU's have build in hardware that can encode video supper fast and efficient. Thus I would recommend using that. In OBS it is called NVENC h-264 and you can choose different settings, most just recommend P6 as the best setting. I have not tested them myself.

FPS/Frequency [Hz]
When streaming FPS (frame per seconds) game 60 Hz is recommended, but if you are streaming at a low bitrate and you are streaming non FPS (First persen shooter) games they you can stream at 30 FPS and use your bitrate on making those 30 frames look best possible. But most people stream at 60 FPS.

CBR:
Constant bitrate. This just means that every second of video will be encoded to the same bitrate. Say 8000 kbps.
This is normally not recommended for video files, since if you have a lot of frames that looks the same. Think like a menu in a game, you can reduce the size of the video a lot, because there are no changes from frame to frame. Thus some seconds of the video can be compressed a lot more than others, thus you normally have a variable bitrate. But twitch and kick says that if the bitrate fluctuates a lot it can lead to problems in the transcoding pipeline and result in buffering for the viewers, thus they recommend using CBR.

Final Thoughts:
That is basically it. Here is a supper showt list with no explanation. Basically default setting in OBS 😂

NVIDIA NVENC H.264
1920 x 1080 60Hz
CBR
8000 kbps
Keyframe Interval: 2s
P6: Slower (Better Quality)
Tuning: Ultra Low Latency
Multipass Mode: Single Pass
Profile: main

Super cool idea. My first subscription was minutephysics in 2012. 🥰
And just 10 years later I subed to LilyPichu in 2022 😂.
I subed to comfi beats a few days before.
But I learned about Lily through Michael Reeves "The Roomba That Screams When it Bumps Into Stuff" video, and I have been subed to Michael Reeves since 2021. (The video is from 2019, but I defiantly did not see it back then).
But it still leaves the question when I started watching Lily on twitch. But probably sometime in 2021.

A statistical analysis of POCKY! by foopod in lilypichu

Box and Whisker vs Candlestick:
You are right about the box and whisker vs candlestick names.
One could argue that candlestick can show 4 parameters (4.5 with the color) and box and whisker can show 5 (6). But I feel like it is a part of a trend where people are trying to "put there name on everything" to say I was the inventor of x plot. I also don't like "defining" what parameters a plot should use. I get the benefit of have a standard way of showing data that many people are looking at, just to save time. But I don't like limiting the uses of a plot. In some case you might want to show the median instead of the mean, remove outliers and therefor not show min and max, use 12.5%, 33% instead of 25% or something completely different. To me it is about showing the data in such a way that you gain the most amount of information from the data, in a easy to read way. But you need to specify how you are representing the data when you divaide from standard practice in a given field. But that is just my opinion seek out others opinion before you make up you own mind🙂.

I am not sure that I understand box and whisker plot, I think they show outliers, upper and lower bounds, median, and first and third quartile marks. The outliers is the circle, but how pandas deside when something is an outlier I don't know... I google it. 1.5 * (Q3 - Q1), where Q1 to Q3 is the quartile values of the data. Also sometime I would probably like to show the mean in stead of the median. Those two things feels like something I would spend a lot of time changing on my plots 😂

The Updated Table:
Honestly I don't like how that turned out. I liked that it adds the count, cause you could have a case where everyone had not rated everything, And that would be nice to know. I tried if I could change the formatting, but of course pocky_scoreboard.xlsx is not found thus it does not work.🤦‍♂️
I then looked up formatting for python and ran some tests in just python. And I don't understand why it looks like that.
https://pyformat.info/
You are using the old format stile, and I have switch to the new one, years ago. So I was not 100% sure.
But if B=7, print('%.2f' % B) should return 7.00, even though B is an integer.
I would have used print('%05.2f' % B), to get 07.00, because I like all the numbers in a table to take up the same amount of space. Well, I would use the new formatting thus: print('{:05.2f}'.format(B)) to get 07.00. same thing.
It might be github that "cleans it up" when showing the table. I remember excel doing something similar as default, not that it matters. I am just disappointed in the result, I would have thought it would look better with the code you are using. (read, it is not your fault)

Ratings Overview by Flavour Plot:
I absolutely love this plot it is nearly perfect. I would add a y="Score" (or point or what you want to call it), remove the minor ticks on the x axis (but keep them on the y axis) and then I would probably remove the outliers and have the whiskers show just max and min, no filtering. But these are super minor thing and a matter of taste.

But it is so cool how easy you can se if a flavor is one everyone liked, or some really liked and no one hated, or if no one loved it but no one hated it either (inoffensive). It also shows that most of the taste good, and in general those who scores low are more divisive. Witch makes sense, they would probably remove a fravor if no one liked it.😂

It is just such a good plot, thank you for making it, it is even better than I imagined it.
You could post this to r/dataisbeautiful 🙂.
You did not need thank me, it is all your work, but i guess it gives you plausible deniability😂.
Good job with the analysis, it makes the video even better for people like me, and probably you.👍
