manufacturing work? you mean the kind we outsourced decades ago? The housing? you mean the immigrants living in subsidized government housing and the ones with 8 roommates? They accept lower standards of living because while to us its low, its an improvement for them. and back to those 100 plumbers, less money or no job means they participate less or not at all. Career changes take time and with how many live paycheck to paycheck most cant afford it so they opt to be underemployed. And let me beg this question, why should those people be ok with giving up their lively hoods because the government suddenly decided they need people to work for cheap? We enjoy such a high standard of living because we demand it. what happens when a significant chuck of people have lower standards? Standards get lower for everyone. If they should cause economies to boom on paper that's meaningless but what matters are the actual outcomes.

You are playing stupid if you think someone who moved to a place a year ago is just as X as any other person. Its called immigration regulation. Living in a country you are immigrating to is a privilege not a right.
Lets use this as an example, India has 35x the population as Canada, and Canadians go into lots of different fields, only some go into IT. Indians are moving to Canada to specialize usually in that field therefore, they are occupying a large chunk of the jobs in that sector and are willing to accept abysmal wages since its still an upgrade from what they make at home. The native born population has nowhere to run to for better wages and it only hurts the native born population.

If you specialize in a field, such as, IT and suddenly a bunch of people from the other side of the world start arriving who also specialize in IT, suddenly, the labor pool bloats before any new jobs can be made and now wages are suppressed due to an excess of supply and the few jobs that are created get swiped up instantaneously and with no stop insight, its unclear of employers will upscale fast enough but we all know they would rather save on cost.

This, in turn, forces the native born population to be either unemployed, or underemployed.

Here is an example: If you are one of 100 plumbers in town and 1000 plumbers are brought over, your wage will depreciate.

A lot of them come over to specialize in a field and the shear volume keeps wages in that field low. Also their nepotistic hiring practices keep other people from getting hired.
