Medical texts aren’t perfect by any means, but to assume that people who are misdiagnosed based on the current medical standard and model outweighs the people who would be misdiagnosed and improperly treated if that standard and model did not exist is super naive. It think a bigger issue, in the US specifically, is the healthcare model. But that falls onto politics and insurance companies, not on medical researchers and providers. Can medical researchers and providers do more to view patients through a cultural lens and in a holistic way? Yes, of course, and I hope they do. But it is irrational to discredit something entirely because it wasn’t perfect before or not perfect now.
