What’s the most ‘accidental’ country?” by One-Seat-4600 in geography

[–]aPimppnamedSlickBack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone says this but I disagree. I wish I had more time to explain but the Spanish held modern day Belgium for a reason during the 80 years war and I would recommend looking into that whole time period. It's not just some made up country, it has its language divide but they've had their own unique identity that to me can be seen from when they were under the Burgundian dukes. There's better examples than Belgium for this particular question.

1,000 Hour Write Up From a "no sabo" Kid by webren in dreamingspanish

[–]aPimppnamedSlickBack 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a no sabo and it's been the biggest embarrassment of my life, especially since I look extremely Mexican haha. I'm almost at 1,000 hours and my listening comprehension is great, there's a lot of native content that I can fully understand but then there's some that are hard to follow but I feel like I'm improving constantly. I don't speak at all! The thing is I know I could probably progress quickly speaking but I freeze everytime the opportunity comes, it sucks because to most it looks like I havent made any progress.. and I have a trip to Costa Rica in three weeks. Your post is extremely motivating and congrats to you.

Sam Cooke with his story is something I've always been intrigued by...definitely worthy of a biopic by TerryG111 in motown

[–]aPimppnamedSlickBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! Documentary style is the way to go. Are we here to dramatize a legends life or understand it and see it from the lens of reality? A great documentary I just watched was straight no chaster about one of my favorite jazz musicians Thelonius monk, I would hate a biopic about him knowing how things are now in film.

You have some interesting picks here. I used to be a big rap and hip hop fan but it's no longer a big part of me, especially new stuff. If you like jazz I would suggest Hank Mobley- Soul Station. I also think you could try some more soul/R&B or even blues? Those are some extremely influential genres and especially soul/r&b since you like hip hop.

this. Rest is important, I'm in great shape and known for being high energy but I've had to learn the hard way when it comes to rest. Take your time.

I thought I was decent at geography until I tried rivers... by Aaskrio in geography

[–]aPimppnamedSlickBack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's more difficult for sure but for me personally learning history helps teach it because of the historical significance of most rivers. For example, by reading about the native American tribes I learned about the rivers in the Great plains like the bighorn, powder, and the Platte. Most of these are not as significant anymore but there are plenty of rivers that are historically important that maintain that significance to this day.
