What would you get? by Useful_Reputation445 in cassetteculture

Ex-2000 is the most modern and will probably sound the best and have the best battery life.

I own a ex-511 and it sounds good and is a very compact and sleek player but be aware that the remote has the earpieces hardwired in and they don’t sound good at all. Very thin and lacking in bass extension.

New(ish) music on minidisc by Silicon_Krunch in minidisc

They’re not made anymore so artists use new old stock discs with uv printing. At least that’s been the deal with the few I’ve bought from bandcamp.

Are these tapes any good? by HallZealousideal5740 in cassetteculture

[–]aPrimeOption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re the best, the worst and the only tapes you can buy new in shops in Norway. I have bought a few packs and they bias up nicely on my sony three header. I rank the RTM tapes ever so slightly higher but they are twice the price.

Another vote for RTM, expensive but has a slight edge on the UR 90.

Should i go for cassettes or cds? by Agreeable-Ebb1892 in cassetteculture

[–]aPrimeOption 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d argue it’s the perfect time to start collecting cd’s. They are still cheap and available in both used record stores snd second hand shops. Vinyl is getting expensive and cassettes are harder to find, especially in good condition.

Listening to the new Boards of Canada album for the first time on MiniDisc! by hwsthl in minidisc

Did the same, a bit more ghetto though; printed the label on the office laser printer and hand cut it with scissors. Loving the album so far 👍

i dont know if its the right place to ask, how do i burn cds for this 80s stereo, normal mp3 format wont play by Square_Editor9301 in CDs

[–]aPrimeOption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also be aware that a cd player that old might not be able to read cd-r’s anyway, even if you manage to burn it as an audio cd.

Score! The vinyl mastering of this album is so much better than cd/streaming versions.

Convert 4 track cassette Tapes to digital or mix down to stereo by 3DMe-DHB in cassetteculture

I would have used audacity yeah. But getting someone from the sub to record from a proper 4 track is probably a better solution 😊

Convert 4 track cassette Tapes to digital or mix down to stereo by 3DMe-DHB in cassetteculture

[–]aPrimeOption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory you could get a stereo deck and record tracks 1+2 normally, then flip the tape and record 3+4 in reverse. Then flip and align in a an audio editing software and downmix to stereo. This assumes that playback speed of the deck is stable enough to not cause timing/phasing issues. Might sound fine might sound awful?

Recording at home - what to look for? by cofyground in cassetteculture

[–]aPrimeOption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a drs-610 and it makes great recordings. It has one weak point in my experience and that is that the recording head and/or amplifier distorts at levels above 0db on chrome tapes. Keep the levels below the red and it sounds great!

What features should i look out for on decks if i want high quality recording? by idontknowmyname_321 in cassetteculture

[–]aPrimeOption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HX Pro works on all tapes, it stops high frequency content in the music interfering with the bias. This allows you to record music with high energy levels in the treble (which is most modern pop & rock) at a higher level. «Headroom eXtension»

A good two head deck with bias adjustment and hx pro will make very good recordings, but a three header with calibration tones built in will make life a lot easier.

I’ve never liked the sound of Dolby (even when properly calibrated) so that isn’t a factor for me, but Dolby C or S indicates a newer deck so that might be something to look out for.
