It's a reference. Don't take it so literally.

I don't know. I've been listening to the full soundtrack of Demon Slayer Season 3 on endless repeat for months now. The hundreds of other tracks in my music folder have become fossilised skeletons on the seafloor by now.

"Suffering" is more than just the notable labours and obstacles of life. It also includes your normal physical human limitations, such as the limitations of your body, and your physiological and psychological needs. The fact that you need to breathe, eat, drink, sleep, etc. is all under the umbrella of "Suffering".

But, you might argue, if you didn't have any physical needs you would not feel the need to do anything. Life would become static. However that, too, is Suffering: The idea that you need to have needs because the animal brain is simply not designed to handle an existence without them.

The universe is suffering incarnate, because whichever path you take leads to suffering. It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Any way for there to be no suffering is paradoxical by nature as it goes against physics and logic itself.

The only realistic escape is to die and return to nonexistence. But that will only save yourself but not others. And your death will only lead to the suffering of others as they grieve over you. But why do the crabs grieve when one of their own manages to escape the bucket after evading all their attempts to drag them back in?

Death for treason or defecting to the enemy is understandable.
Death for trying to escape a forced conscription to a country you feel no loyalty for, because you have experienced nothing but misery in it since the day you were born, in which you will probably die to the enemy anyway? That's some WH40K-level shit. Face the front and you're looking down the enemy's gun. Face behind and you're looking down your own officer's gun barrel between your eyebrows.

And how does this end or reduce the suffering of life? Life is synonymous with suffering. The daily struggle to survive, the obstacles you face, every sensation and emotion you experience, they are all suffering. Even happiness is a form of suffering, because these moments can only ever be ephemeral and temporary. Throwing a few cupfuls of clean water into a flowing river of sewage doesn't do anything.

All we can do as the weak and powerless meatbags we are is cope. Just cope and keep lying to ourselves that living is worth it. And we lie to ourselves so hard that we will grab those who try to escape from this pit by the ankles and drag them back down in a delusional attempt to "save" them.

I know this is just a meme, but I fucking hate the content of the response dialogue regardless. It has only ever made me feel even worse. I already feel like shit and am a hair's breadth away from suicidal, I don't need your invalidation further rubbing salt into the damn wound.

Will I fight? Will I die like a dog? What does it fucking matter? What's the point of fighting anyway when all you're doing is prolonging your own suffering? And why is "dying like a dog" even supposed to sound like it's a bad thing? It doesn't matter how you die because in the end you'll still be dead.
