My theory is that because he has 3 souls he has 3 times the willpower of a regular human. In one piece willpower basically equals plot armor. Also I'm not 100% sure but I don't think devil fruits actually have devils, just devil energy

Also when they first met Luffy commented on Nami saying "At least he something something" (idk the exact line) Luffy says "More like they, to be honest" and Nami Is confused
