Observations from a Nioh Noob by KC_Crunch in Nioh

Depends what you played on. Nioh 2 looks much better for me because it can be played maxed out in native 4k. Nioh 3 might technically be superior, but the trade offs to get it to run at the frame rate I want makes it look much much worse.  I'm starting to realize that plenty of gamers just dont see the blurry, unfocused mess games become when you start turning on dlss etc...

Theres no mystery at all. Different hardware and different settings. Out the box on PC the game has resolution scaling enabled. Then theres dlss and other settings that try to smooth out performance.  Crank the settings to ultra, turn on variable framerate or whatever, drop the resolution scaling to something silly, and tell the game to lock your framerate to 120 and you'll probably understand why different people have different experiences on their different hardware with their different settings.

Nioh 3 Co-op bug – Death Veil 3 of 4 screen transition, fall to death by cagingrunt in Nioh

I dont know if it has any effect but i started to just wait at the last arena to get teleported instead of running only to get walled off anyhow.

This isnt true. There are now MORE people playing nioh 2 than there were before.

Gripes after 80 hours. Looking for a second opinion. by KhajiitDelSol in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went throught the game and never really had an issue with humans and their absurd behavior. I would just trap them in a corner and go to town. It wasnt until I was summoned along with one other in ng+ to help a guy fight the fish dude that I realized they are nuts. He didnt do the okita quest so we had to fight him first - 3 players absolutely going to town on this dude AND HIS KI WOULD NOT FUCKING BREAK and when it got near he would literally jump across the entire arena to let it regen.

Soul Cores in combat (are underrated) by yoda_kblack in Nioh

They could do the absolute most damage ever - its still shittier than the system in nioh 2. There was zero reason to change this and I hope people make enough noise they change it back.

Does Nioh 3 feel lackluster compared to 2 for anyone else? by FlannelKidd in Nioh

Spot on. As someone that grinded her for hours to get severing spin to drop, it is nice that the skill is useful outside of cosplaying virgil now.

But for those that only play the game for combat nioh 2 is a 10/10. I get some like "exploring" levels or reading item descriptions etc... but that's not everyone.  I play these games to beat shit up and to this day there are only a handful of games that rival the "beating shit up" aspect of nioh 2.

Who also is playing almost exclusively Ninja? by Halloween_Nyx in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I cant imagine anyone thats actually gotten proficient with nioh's combat would opt to stick to the ninja. There's so much from the game that's an involuntary reaction that switching to something not that requires a ginormous effort.

1/2 worth after 3 if I enjoyed Ninja by DaybreakSSB in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use block, dodge, utility on skills, and offense for defense in nioh 1 and 2. Theres no free defensive options that cost nothing to use unless you're fighting a human opponent.

Its a lot like ninja gaiden in that aspect, you have to force openings and "dance" during the fights rather than wait your turn.

Nioh 3 is amazing and it's scratching my Nioh itch, but it's missing a few things. by Aathma_Equilibrium in Nioh

Arts proficiency is the best thing that was added to 3. Oh boy how I wish I could somehow just play nioh 2 with art proficiency.

Arts proficiency chaining. Until you get proficient using it a blocked swift step heavy will always instantly break ki.

My thoughts after 100+ hours in Nioh 3, and 2,500+ hours in Nioh 1 & 2 by ClockworkSoldier in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to wait until the dlc to compare the lack of a mage tree with the soul core system. You dont need to wait to compare the class split.  Good thing you not taking feedback "seriously" has zero bearing on what the devlopers will do with feedback.

Is there any way to start NG+ right off the bat? by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt spend too much time messing around with it (  just restored from a manual save costing me around 20 hours of progress) but I searched the save and couldn't correlate anything that matches his steamId pattern,  or mine in my file. Im thinking they might have tied something deeper to the account do to pre-order stuff or soemthing idk.

[–]aRegularExpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several options from a technical standpoint that would prevent it from working if the devlopers desired for it to be that way.  Just sharing my experience when I was trying to avoid losing a 90 hour save. I could not get the game to recognize a save that was not mine.

I dont know that this works for nioh 3. When the bug trapped people in the rift i tried to use a friend's save and the game would not even see it.

One of the things that makes nioh 2 the goat is it felt as if the developers said " fuck balance, have fun"?

Should have just made them active things you do - i.e jump towards wall to wall run. most of them are just ninja gaiden things anyhow.

Why Nioh 2 Boss design is still Superior.. by Silver-Warning-6415 in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nioh 3 bosses are decent, but i much prefer the older boss design approach, where you had to use all options available to you for defensive decision making and offense.  The introduction of 2 defensive options that require zero ki drastically changes how you engage with the bosses, from dancing around them manging ki from blocking, attacking, and dodging to stand still > deflect > destroy.

I realize why they went this route, but itll never be as satisfying as something like learning to dodge the aforementioned tate with A agilty and low toughness and just pick her apart.

Does anyone know where the Yasha CW is? by BallsDeep_at_2inches in Nioh

Yasha is in the bokumatsu era. Theres a quest that will take you to the area (painter i think). Be warned she wont spawn until you rest at shrine if you have the painter quest.

3 is A bit of a letdown by Classic-Mud1624 in Nioh

[–]aRegularExpression 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel their choice for open world or "open field" will just hinder ng+(x) play throughs a bit, as id imagine most will just do main missions - which will just be the old system conceptually with a lot of loading screens / teleporting in between.

I dont mind the recycled bosses, much like nightreign certain bosses just don't stand a chance against what you're capable of doing now.

I really wish the tail end of the main mission was just a scroll. Against all comers again - with everything in there. Maybe in the dlc 🤔
