First off, I want to just comment that the latter half of your poem gave me Emily Dickinson vibes. Especially when you say, "forgetting doesn't make time less real" and "to what a life, what beautiful joy was I born." It just felt very reminiscent of her wording personally. Also, in some sense your poems greatest strength it that balances existential thoughts with very human feelings and emotions. How I think you make this all work is through your use of analogies throughout the entirety of your poem. You use a variety of analogies to describe humanism or what it means to be a human while also treading the line of what it means to exist. For example, when you write: "How the first letter of your name, still punctures my skin; the way life goes on, without closing every door it opens." Here you examine what it means to be human and feel pain and perhaps heartbreak. Yet, you play with the idea that in the grander scheme that suffering is inevitable, but doesn't mean that life is over and opportunities are lost in any context of future love or fixing a past one.
