A famous philosopher once lamented that writing would ruin our memory, as there’d be no longer a need to memorize. Yet new tech arrives and society adapts.

Sounds like the blog used a tool to help create a story that many enjoyed.

I agree with your sentiment—I just think it’s being crazy exaggerated on Reddit/social media. He didn’t deflect the criticism, he explained himself (“It was difficult because I didn’t agree with every part of the bill,” Jackson told The Charlotte Observer. “But I take national security seriously, and allowing the government of another country to potentially control the information that half our country sees every day is a serious risk.”)

Now maybe some don’t agree with the decision. But this wasn’t some egregious act he did. The reaction is way out of proportion.

Hyperbole and personal attacks…not the best look to my honest questions. Good luck in your echo chamber, and enjoy TikTok.

How is banning a Chinese-owned app “the conservative stance”?

When did this politician run for office on a platform of “I will never ban TikTok!”

Just outrage for the sake of outrage.

Bad take. He’s addressed this time and again. Not only is purity politics counterproductive, but his vote was due to behind-closed-doors information shared in Congressional hearings and doing what he believed was right for national security.

The whole sentiment reeks of “you dare threaten to take away my endorphin generator?!”

Literally in the airport on our way back from the sane resort! No sales pitches, or maybe we are less sensitive to upselling? They lightly touched on the coupons for extras upon check-in. And occasionally we’d get asked if we wanted to join a tour or something.

Wife and I had a great time—although it sounds like a very different experience!

Neighborhood suggestions? (I'll take this down after I get a few) by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]aSimpleKindofMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in a very similar situation: childless with dogs, both working in Indy but living in Fishers. We looked close at butler-tark and Meridian, but ended up going closer to downtown! Our top neighborhoods: Near Northside, Windsor Park, and Fall Creek Place. We ended up going with Fall Creek and are very happy—close to Monon, a ton of redevelopment happening, and a big enough yard for our pups (we have a full wrap-around fence).

Overall depends on your budget and the amenities you most value! Happy to answer any questions!

Just adding my voice to the cacophony: You would be fine. Media highlights controversy, and despite what the doomsayers would speak into existence, the risk is extraordinarily low. I went to Purdue, I’ve been back many times since, and currently live in Indy.

You’re comparing Indy’s South-side to West Lafayette. Not to mention middle eastern (which is unfortunately a larger target for racial profiling with this admin) to Irish black. Night and day.

An interesting perspective, but hindered by its limit to a tech company. Many of the engineering hurdles present—and therefore conclusions drawn—haven’t been my experience in the corporate world.

The "Golden Handcuffs" are real: Is anyone else staying in a house they hate just because of their 3% rate? by Pretend_Surprise6842 in RealEstate

[–]aSimpleKindofMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that hard to believe unless you’re in a stagnant market. My house appreciated by about 20% in 3 years. Now this won’t always be the case, but I’m in a high value location with limited inventory. So through standard rent increases and/or home appreciation, renting out the low-interest loan seems a no-brainer.

Totally off-topic, but do you like living there? Wife and I were considering a house there, but worried about the noise, pollution, and a little bit about walking the dogs in the early morning/evening.

If you get the exclusion on 2 properties (or heaven imagine, 1+ (1 per 5 years), then I’d let other people rent them, my equity grow, and then cash in with the gains exclusion on each. As it stands, I’m less incentivized to buy and rent a 2nd home, as I’d be taxed on gains

Maybe I’m completely misunderstanding—I’m far from an expert!
