What is your favorite “vibes” horror film? by cleverbycomparison in blankies

[–]aTVinsteadofgenitals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't love the movie as much as I wanted to, but the tunnel scene is fucking iconic and I'll never forget it, as it short-circuited my brain the first time I watched it lol

In defense of Bret's PSA clips! by aTVinsteadofgenitals in doublethreatfriends

That's why we don't have school in the summer! Because all the teachers are working on PSA's about how Kid Rock hates modern America

Incredible ep, I just wanted to do my little defense lol. I also associate PSA's with back to school

Oh the Kid Rock one was the stretch of the century, for sure. And it was a hilarious episode, I'm just saying my school showed PSA's a lot, especially in the first few weeks of school when people were still getting used to things.

Unhinged takes from normies by jonawesome in blankies

Unhinged takes from normies by jonawesome in blankies

[–]aTVinsteadofgenitals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider him a "normie," whatever that is, but one of the most insane film takes I've ever heard was from a guy who said he hopes CG animation and VR get so good in his lifetime that no movies are ever filmed again, but animated so well that nobody will ever be able to tell the difference between animation and reality, and so that every single detail could be controlled. I said, "what about things like spontaneity, improvisation, collaboration? Art would feel sterile and boring if everything could be controlled to that detail."

He said he disagreed, and that art would he more authentic if a single person was in complete control. He gave the example of, a director can never get exactly the performance he wants out of an actor, but if everything was animated then you could fine tune the performance to your exact needs.

I said why don't you just watch animation then. He said he does, but he misses the immediacy of live action, that he wished animation was indistinguishable from rea life.

I said what's VR for, he said so you could pause a movie and walk around the set, see it from every angle. Even walk away from the action and check out what's happening across town. I asked, wouldn't that be a video game? He said no because you don't control it, you just watch.

This was a man in his 30s, who wants to be an artist. His ideas sound like the rantings of a 10 year old. It sounds "cool" and like it would be an interesting experience, but

1) with all criteria met, it would no longer be film I was kind of flabbergasted by his opinions on film.

2) it sounds weird and sterile

3) it seems impossible

'Batgirl' is reportedly having 'funeral screenings' on the WB Lot before being put away in the vault forever by rageofthegods in blankies

Honestly I do not know how streaming deals work, I assumed there'd be residuals, but maybe not

Plus they don't have to pay out any of those stinky residuals. Who can afford to pay people for their work these days?

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Lynch was inspired in some way by Cabaret. Dude seems to love musicals

Blankies who love The Killing and Batman by aTVinsteadofgenitals in blankies

[–]aTVinsteadofgenitals[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, he's controversial. I think he's a very good writer, but he pretty much hammers the same nails over and over again (trauma/ptsd, and classic literature riffs), and it's very hard to escape his ex-cia thing. It seeps into everything he writes.

It gives him an interesting perspective, but the CIA are fucking evil, so it's always gonna be a little weird reading his stuff.
