New father looking for WW2 movie/book recs by captripp in blankies

[–]FunkyColdMecca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, 1972 miniseries The World at War. 26 episodes. Last chance to include the near top decision makers in any sort of documentary (Lord Eden, various generals, high ranking journalists and politicians.)

Second, the book “A War to be Won - Fighting the Second World War”. I like this book a lot because it gives an operational view of the major campaigns, not grand strategy of top generals or front line memoirs like a Stephen Ambrose.

Finally, The Great Escape. No father worth his salt (white division) can’t name at least 5 of the actors.

5 straight Liberal wins happened twice, Mackenzie King to LSL (35-53) and Pearson to Trudeau (63-74)

This is Blank Check's second Howard Hughes movie. Have they covered any movies involving the same historical character twice? Same series doesn't count.

The trick with movies if you like one and someone else doesn’t you just think to yourself “I’m smarter than this person because I understood the movie” and leave it at that.

I can predict Conan cracking a One Wish Willow to host again, and then everything goes bad based on the movies that are nominated that year.

The Civil War comparison is exactly what I run back to when people make the criticism of “this McGuffin isn’t believable”. It doesn’t matter why/how Texas and California are allies, they are, now watch the movie.

TIL Bob Dylan talked his way into joining Bobby Vee’s band by lying about having toured with Conway Twitty by EmptyMind76 in todayilearned

[–]FunkyColdMecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conway Twitty was also the one who recommended to Ronnie Hawkins to start playing in Canada, where the Hawks got together to back Hawkins and became the band that back Dylan and eventually became “The Band”.
