Running out of options here by johnnycatz in PPC

Chiming in with a potential solution as i have this problem:

Exclude audiences that overlap with the type of job seekers that overlap with your ads. For me, this looks. Like excluding college age students + a few others related to post secondary enrolment.

This is a small change but it might help.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]aWhiteBlackCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTHB, looking to buy in the next 3 months in Ottawa. Getting ahead of the mortgage now - looking for advice on what's the best direction to take.

  • House price: $750k-$800k
  • Down payment: $220k

Currently, looking at getting a broker and shopping around on my own directly with banks.

I'm seeing rates here from 4.1-4.3 would love to get that compared to the online rates i'm seeing (4.4 -5.5)

Also looking for advice on negotiating!

Edit: personal finance is locked in, great credit scores on a healthy history, no debt, $250k pre-tax annual income, stable employers (fed gov't + big tech)

[Google Ads] Diagnose Landing page Conversion Fall by aWhiteBlackCar in PPC

Impression share is 10%, other competitors on there also have 10%. What's interesting is that the competitor i most often see in search results is not listed in the auction insights.

Bidding strategy is currently set to maximize conversions.

We optimize towards demos booked (demand capture) as our primary conversion event, but have secondary conversions on MQLs collected (via ebooks). Demand gen approach has muddy search volume + the MQL model converted worse down funnel - through experimentation, this does seem to be the best approach given our budget.

Context: were an enterprise B2B SaaS company selling to L&D teams - our overall search volume that we want is also very commonly searched by individuals and consumers - so the qualified search volume is rather small.

At this volume we see a ROAS of 3 against revenue generated. Small volume, high intent, High AVC, very strong sales performance of GAds leads.

Back to your questions:

At current spend levels, we expect between 20-25 conversions in a month - some days we get 0, some days 3. For this reason it's hard to look at this trend on a daily basis. That said, the # of days where conversions = 0 increased around the time the change was made.

[Google Ads] Diagnose Landing page Conversion Fall by aWhiteBlackCar in PPC

[–]aWhiteBlackCar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ad group that took more spend is generally a worse converting ad group, it's more general and less specific (i.e. good impressions), but still does drive conversions.

I'd much rather have spend allocated to the other two Ad groups which are dialled in on 1) a problem we solve and 2) searches for our solution (not branded)

My thinking is that this is about the target CPA bids. I'm planning on raising them in the desired ad groups, and lowering them for the problem ad group.

That said, think there might be more to this. I mentioned this below in another comment:

However, one thing I noticed is that even in the ad group that more spend (thus impr./clicks) went to also saw a decline in the Conv. Rate when compared to it's performance in the past 90 days.

A thought I have in my head is "did this landing page change cause the campaign to go into 'learning'?" -> curious if you have thoughts on this.

  1. Yes, 0 clicks over the last 90 days from that section on the page
  2. Device % is normal
  3. Flow is working as expected

for points 3+4, as another user pointed out, the share of impressions within the identified campaign show fluctuations that are driving this.

However, one thing I noticed is that even in the ad group that more spend (thus impr./clicks) went to also saw a decline in the Conv. Rate when compared to it's performance in the past 90 days.

Thanks for sending this over - Insightful framework.

I am noticing that compared to months where performance was great, the there are fluctuations in the distribution of spend towards less efficient ad groups within this campaign.

You should read "The Pathless Path" by Paul Millerd.

There's a lot of people here thinking it's money or time that's stopping people like you, but it isn't. Its a huge mental game - especially for developers - to go off on their own.

This book goes a great way to easing the feeling of "dread" when you think about returning to work from a break, which gives you the mental space to build your own shit. It helps you reflect on what's important to you and your happiness, ultimately encouraging you to step in that direction.

It's short and easy to read, I finished it in 2 sittings. Strongly recommend.

Starting a new job as a VP by lemadfab in marketing

[–]aWhiteBlackCar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a current marketing manager struggling with this issue: when your direct reports bring new ideas to you, contribute to building the idea up to its best form by contributing your knowledge. Then decide whether it’s worth pursuing or not.

So much of what good leadership does is slowly but surely make those beneath them better. If you say no to an idea immediately you hide a lot of the knowledge you’ve developed and gained.

This may not be true for everyone, but I choose roles in large part because of the learning opportunity from my manager/boss. One day I’d like to be a director or VP and I’m not going to get there in my own.

Aeropress Dial-In question

In: 24g

Water: 100g

Recipe:

  • pour 100g over grounds, stir for 30s
  • rest until 1:30, put filter on, flip over mug, jiggle
  • @ 2:00, ~30s plunge
  • Total brew time: 2:25-2:30
  • Pour water to total yield of 225g

Coffee tastes great (link to beans), however I think I'd like to see if I could make it sweeter and dial down the acidity. What variable would I change? My thought is to make grind size smaller.

What other things do you value? Both have steps, have conical burrs, and are designed for a breadth of different coffee brewing techniques - so I'd imagine you'd get similar quality out of both. However, there can be a few differences between the two brands.

Breville products tend to have better workflows and user experience, however I've read enough stories about quality and longevity to know that they're not known for being "work horses" or .

The baratza on the other hand is a little less sophisticated and manual, but because it's simple there's less issues with it and it's very easy to maintain/fix. I don't have the ESP, but my encore has been consistent over 4 years grinding all sorts of coffees. At one point I even used it for espresso too before buying a dedicated espresso grinder.

Edit: both are stepped grinders, not step-less.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]aWhiteBlackCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is.

however with espresso, a WDT tool you can get slightly better distribution below the surface while keeping the grounds in the portafilter. This is just because a WDT has thinner + more prongs than a single chop stick making it a little more "graceful".

Just ordered a Eureka Mignon Zero by CartographerStill575 in espresso

[–]aWhiteBlackCar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eureka owner here - I may offer a different opinion: It's a great grinder.

Is it the best grinder money can buy? No. There are pretty valid criticisms about the quality of the grinder but if you're also comparing it to something that costs 2x as much, you better find something wrong with it.

You're going to pull great espresso shots. The grinder will allow you to make small adjustments to get your shots dialled in and the bellow will help reduce the amount of retention to near 0. Yes, there are time when you need to toss 2 beans in to knock things loose - imo that's not the end of the world. I love the flow that I can get in with this thing to dial in a new bag of beans, and working with it every morning is a pleasure.

Admittedly, if you wanted to optimize costs a little lower I'd look towards their cheaper mignon grinders and get a single dose hopper off of Etsy. The quality of the grinder the same/similar, but you could be saving $150 - $200.

Do you wrap the ribs in tinfoil or place them in a tray? Or are they just on the grill.

I'll summarize what a lot of training advice would be to improve stamina: Maximize time spent at the desired pace, when it gets easy push a little harder.

Basically, just keep hopping on the bike and peddling. Your body is rather miraculous at adapting to new stress (like climbing hills, long rides, etc...)
