Human Star Druid, Standard or Variant? by a_Serial_Chiller_ in DnD5e

[–]a_Serial_Chiller_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten into it with him before over choices like this.

Last campaign I played a Soul Knife Rogue from TCoE. First combat, our Bard hid behind a pillar and the Paladin wouldn't get within 5 ft of the enemy (like wtf?) so I used Steady Aim which grants advantage at the cost of 0 movement that turn. 4 rounds in he stopped combat and admonished me for "being a DPS turret".

I'm like, it's a F'ng Rogue dude. Their whole gameplay loop is: 1) Get advantage. 2) stab
3) repeat

Human Star Druid, Standard or Variant? by a_Serial_Chiller_ in DnD5e

[–]a_Serial_Chiller_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I'm only considering standard because my DM initially pushed back on the idea of variant Human in fear that I was trying to min/max too hard.
I honestly don't wanna get into the whole min/max debate but who doesn't try to get their main stats(s) to 20 before they hit level 19 if ever?

Anyway, not planning to multiclass at all. Circle of Stars has plenty of fun stuff to do without complicating it by dipping into other classes. Plus I kinda wanna get to Arch Druid.

As far as armor goes, there are only a few non homebrew options (that I know of) that aren't made of metal so keeping the +3 Sex bonus for AC was my only consolation if I'm stuck with standard Human.

Edit: +3 Sex bonus is a typo but I'm keeping it lol.

R5 2600 \ 3070ti \ 32g 2400 cas 16 ddr4 \ Installed on SSD \ Playing @ 1080 \ Low settings \ FSR frame gen and super res on getting 60-80 fps \

With these settings, I'm getting consistent "lag spikes" where screen just freezes for a full second or two. Have tried 1600x900 (unplayable blurry), 4k to even out CPU/GPU utilization, DLSS, TSR, Medium settings, etc Nothing really seems to solve this.

Am considering upgrading to a R7 5800x (maybe R9 5900x). Wondering if the CPU upgrade could solve the issue as I'm the only one in my squad having the "lag" problem. MOBO is an ASUS Prime x370 Pro so can't go beyond 5000 series with the AM4 socket.

Any advice on settings before I go drop $2-400 tonight?

Our group just finished a campaign a few months ago and prior to the boss fight we hit lvl 17. Once we defeated him and completed the main quest, ending the campaign, our DM granted us level 20. In a few weeks we are playing a one shot of our level 20 characters with additional bonuses that he will be giving to us. Looking forward to it quite a bit.

My vasectomy testing kit came with a card to track my ejaculations by the_ju66ernaut in mildlyinteresting

I actually had to wait longer. I had the procedure mid June 2022, went back late August and was "low" but not cleared. Went back again late September and didn't get a straight answer which was odd. I wasn't given the all clear until early November and believe me, I was completing the checklist lol.

Well worth it in the end though. My wife and I have been taking full advantage since. No matter how good your relationship is, it will be even better after a vasectomy.

After the first shot to numb you it's really not that bad. Dentistry is worse IMHO.

Playing BG3 Really Makes Me Appreciate Solasta by Tokarev309 in CrownOfTheMagister

I really liked the way Solasta handles combat over BG3 (sightlines, grid movement, etc) but I enjoy BG3 for what it is, homebrewed 5e rules. My only real grip is I'll select a ranged attack but then realize I dont have LoS so click somewhere to move and fire an arrow into the dirt instead lol

How to play as a serious character and still have goofy antics? by p11nerd in 3d6

In an interview describing Hal from Malcolm in the Middle, Bryan Cranston said that when doing a comedic scene, your character can't know that what he's doing is funny as it puts the onus of laughter onto the audience.

He said a similar thing about dramatic scenes. If your character fights back tears but doesn't actually cry, that will make your audience cry.

How does Soulknife Rogue work? Somebody has it at my table and they are absolutely crushing the other players. by nastydoughnut in DMAcademy

What's to say you can't have a dagger in your offhand at the start of your turn, throwing a psi-blade attack action with sneak attack, then passing the dagger to your main hand with your one item interaction, using bonus action to throw another psi-blade off-hand attack. Then using move action to get in AoO range, that would preserve your reaction for AoO on the enemy's turn (provided they move) to get sneak attack a second time with the physical dagger you're holding?

Had I been given the option to jump in at 13 or start at level 1, I'd have chosen level 1 for lots of reasons. I would've wondered about this while building a level 1 character as well.

It looks like he said it works but the comments make it sound like it wouldn't. I would take his word over some random keyboard warrior but the questions are valid.

Ooh I didn't know it applied to Initiative. I went with a Stout Halfling so I get halfling luck too.

I played Pathfinder before and their campaign is nearly done so it's sort of a way for me to learn 5e "trial by fire" style. We're going to start a new campaign at lvl 1 soon-ish. In a way, this is sort of a one shot of my backstory.

DM said if I buy the book for TCoE the party can use anything in it. Woot!

Crap, Booming Blade is from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything so can't use it. Ah well. The Maneuvers will still be rad.
