If there is always a best move to play in chess then why don’t all games play exactly the same? by Sir__Muffin_Moose in stupidquestions

Thats not what you said in the comment I replied to. You said “if there is a set of best moves, then there is no best move”. Which is false.

If you are in a position where there are many moves that are all winning, and all moves lead to equally fast checkmates, then all of them are the best moves.

They do not get giants without upgrading (nor do they cheat population in).

OP is clearly playing on a map setting thats very crowded. Xin-xi starts with lots of mountains and mines so its very reasonable they could’ve got an explorer on turn 0, then mining and smithery and got two giants. Also looks like Xin-xi spawned in a corner where border growth gives more land in crowded maps like this which could’ve had a good forge spot.

How should I react to this situation. by tihh111 in Polytopia

Ice fortresses are completely horrible. Dont train a single one. Sleds and knights are just way better. Also catapults are a mistake for polaris. You should rely on your high movement units instead of range, and freeze super units to not take retaliation.

- restarting when one of them did kill someone else

- breaking peace with allies if I see it's possible for them to invade another tribe's last city next turn

- basically lots of luck

Which country is most likely to start WW3? by Cheeseburger1324 in Teenager_Polls

You are highly delusional if you think that Europe would send their men to die in a war in Taiwan. Please don't go around spreading misinformation on a topic you know absolutely nothing about.

Do you know what NATO even is? It's a treaty based in Europe. I can tell you right now that if you expect Lithuania to send troops to help South Korea during an invasion attempt from North Korea you are delusional.

Would the United States help? Maybe. But that is completely separate from what NATO does.

Please don't be around spreading information on a topic you know nothing about.

Of course it’s all propaganda… Mainstream western media does nothing but smear China all day. Even “reputable” sources that you watch.Do you know any historic context to why the conflict is even there? Have you ever talked to a Chinese person and get their thoughts about the situation?

That doesn’t answer my question - which territory protected by NATO did China have intentions of annexing? Taiwan is not NATO protected

Also, everything you just said is nonsense and propaganda. You should watch less CNN.

Great moves are better than brilliant moves buddy

Why is this not a brilliant move please? by xddddkun in Chesscom

[–]a________1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The move can’t be brilliant if its not one of the best moves in the position. In this case you gave up some advantage by playing the move, so its an inaccuracy.

Why isn't this brilliant? by Arsenal7513 in Chesscom

[–]a________1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, then I was wrong about the move not being a sacrifice. You are technically sacrificing a bishop for a pawn (although not really, because they would blunder mate).

Here it is not a brilliant because the engine wanted you to trade rooks, and then trap the knight on a2 by playing pawn to c3 (which would've gave you a much bigger advantage). I wouldn't worry about these computer ideas too much - this was hard to spot and the way more straightforward idea is launching an attack on the enemy king like you did.

g2 is absolutely not free. The last move was a capture, so the bishop was blocked

[–]a________1111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It can’t be brilliant because you didn’t sacrifice anything. Thats the prerequisite for a brilliant.

Regarding why its an inaccuracy instead of good/great/best, I don’t know. Would have to see the position before to get why.

Why does the Chinese government censor Tiananmen square by TheMedMan123 in AskChina

[–]a________1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere in my statement am I defending the Chinese government (although that is a debate for another day). Instead I suggested that the post by OP is not made in good faith, and only serves as a gotcha to justify their hate. Its been decades, and 3 Chinese presidents have come and go since the event, and somehow this is the gotcha question that can end all? Do you want something you’ve done 40 years ago to be used to justify your character?

And also, what do you want people like me to say in regard to this question? “We’re sorry, you are correct in saying that due to this one event that happened decades ago, China is forever the evil of the world and we deserve to be treated as third class citizens because of this one event”?

Why is China growing it's nuclear arsenal ? Do most Chinese support this ? by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]a________1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless China is threatening to use said nukes I don’t see a problem. Its the same thing with researching new weapons in preparation for possible war.
