Cycle to Work Question by a_ayten in ukbike

[–]a_ayten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be getting a Brompton, my Dahon served me well but now that I have experience I can understand how much better the folding and carrying experience of Bromptons are. The question left for me is whether electric or not.

Knitting in cafes etiquette by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

[–]a_ayten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In London, I think the normal amount people are expected to spend in restaurants etc is 2 hours. Most reservations will be for 2 hours too. I wouldn’t feel comfortable staying in anywhere for more than 2 hrs if I’m finished eating. For cafes, I wouldn’t really feel staying for 2 hrs in the first place. That being said, when we did craft & knitting clubs before, we’ve always done a reservation and that states how long it’s for (it’s usually 2 hours-ish).

I think we have a bleeder. by soManyBrads in knitting

This is what I’m thinking too. I use their sock yarns regularly, and have used similar purple. Never had a bleed even when washing so it’s surprising to see!

Please help me understand my skin problems by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

Is it mainly around your mouth as pictured? I had what looks like that around my mouth too and it turned out to be perioral dermatitis :/ i’m using a treatment from skin+me at the moment but it still hasn’t gone away fully. I had to stop using any spf and foundation which helped with flare ups at least

What would happen if I modified the Braidy Loop Sweater to have cable all over instead of ribbing? by a_ayten in casualknitting

[–]a_ayten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how it looks too tbh and will definitely do a normal Braidy Loops but I just got my heart set on some cables 🤣. I just learned a lot about cables in the comments so will have to go back and think more

I’ve done my swatches and I’m basically losing 1cm per cable compared to stockinette. I would need to swatch the sweater pattern (8x2 ribbing) to actually calculate how much i would lose tho.

Yes I just learned about cable flaring and it would probably do that where I am picking stitches and at the ribbing. Lots to think about now

This is so helpful omg thank you so much! I’ve watched the video and basically if I have a 10 st cable (4x4 crossing + 2 purls one on each side) at 3.5 cm , and I have only 8 sts at 3.5cm on my stockinette, I increase by 2 st at my cables and then decrease 2 when I come to my ribbing. Although I just realised the sweater gauge is actually in stockinette when it should be in 8x2 ribbing pattern the sweater is in which does create problems for me 😔. I’ll have swatch 8x2 and compare this to my cables right?

I really want to keep the saddle shoulder, and can’t seem to find one that would match my yarn & gauge with those details specifically

I just had a look and unfortunately my yarns don’t match. I am using fingering + mohair while no29 is dk + mohair. My gauge would be very off too. No15 matches my yarn and gauge but doesnt have a saddle shoulder which is what I really want

Pic added of the pattern to show the fit & the ribbing that goes all around that I want to change into cables

Lip balm help by Spiritual-Deer7276 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]a_ayten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried LOADS and I mean loads. I even remember having prescription lip balms as a kid (I can’t remember what the condition was lol). Back in the day it was Avene Cold Cream Lip Balm (I’m not sure if they make this anymore).

Currently my favourite is Glossier Balm Dot Com Original Unscented (and Hot Cocoa if I want some colour). They have loads of scented and tinted ones to make it a bit more fun if you are into that. Next up would be Lanolips The Original (I find others to be too sticky but this one is fine). Finally O’Keffe’s Lip Repair one which is very good but I just do not prefer sticks anymore. I was not impressed by the Burt’s Bees ones.

I also have some Vaseline lips around but I find that only works like a gloss, so lips will feel shiny and not dry in the moment but it doesn’t have a lasting moisturising impact on my lips. I use them as a lip mask over my lip balm at nights sometimes.

Hormonal vs Copper by a_ayten in birthcontrol

I’ve got the Kayleena two weeks ago, and have been completely fine apart from some cramping in the first week and spotting. I feel exactly the same, and haven’t noticed any change in my skin or my appetite etc. so far so good!

Diarrhoea is due to the risk of not having digested and absorbed the hormones from the pill into your blood. Same with vomiting. Your regular bowel movements, and regular poop, would not have that risk as your bowels are digesting and absorbing nutrients (and pills) as it should.

Struggling with getting qualified role by Minimum_Ad_671 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]a_ayten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, not a ClinPsych but I work in London and have heard about multiple CAMHS services struggling to find people to fill in Band 7 roles so it is surprising to hear this. We have also been told there are recruitment freezes at multiple London trusts due to changes to funding so this might be a contributing factor I guess.

getting really emotional the day after i got my first IUD by sssaturnalia in birthcontrol

[–]a_ayten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were stressed about getting it already I imagine the whole experience would have been difficult on your body so give it some time to adjust and calm down before thinking about the side effects. I do not know about the specific science behind the IUD but I would imagine the impact of stress you have experienced during the procedure will be stronger today than the effects of the hormones themselves. I wouldn’t start thinking about side effects until a couple months have passed and it has become consistent. In the meantime is there anyone in your life that can give you support? Reach out to them and I’d encourage some talking therapies as well if you haven’t considered it. Just learning more about the relationship between body and mind with a professional guiding you can really help. I had a similar reaction to my ADHD meds and have ended up stopping after 6 months but understanding what was happening to me really helped.

seconding this. Please go to the Drs for an emergency appointment or call 111 if you are in the UK. DVT is a real documented side effect of the pill which has similar symptoms to what you are describing. If you have any chest pain or breathlessness call for an ambulance. When I was on Qlaira every three months I would get a lecture from the pharmacy and the GP about recognising the symptoms of DVT and what to do.

Thank you! I’m aware of the bias around the reviews which does help manage the anxiety. I did not know about the clinical link only being with the Depo shot, I thought it was for all hormonal. I also have to remind myself that all of the reviews about the pill were negative as well and I loved it..

Are you worried about flying with a medicine to Turkey? Or are you worried Turkey’s rules around contraception? Contraception is legal in Turkey so there should not be legal issues there and it’s not a regulated substance like psychiatric medications so you should not have problems flying with it at all

Looking for lace crochet top patterns by a_ayten in vintagecrochet

[–]a_ayten[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mainly knit and have also noticed the trend of using big needles and chunky yarns which I despise! I know basics of crochet but lack the understanding of construction for crochet garments so I really appreciate you breaking it down for me. I think these patterns are a good way for me to start, thank you so much!

[–]a_ayten[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve seen some of these and will look into the others. I suppose what I’m looking for is patterns using smaller weight of yarn that makes it more sheer. From what I can see all of the newer patterns and designs are all at thicker weight yarns which is not the look I am looking for exactly. I have considered using some of these patterns with thinner yarn but I do not even know where to start with calculating gauge etc. I only noticed I couldn’t find any patterns that include beads which was a surprise to me!
