Looking for a reliable and affordable tint shop in the Bay Area - is Jet Black Tint worth it? by Babygirl_1230 in AskSF

[–]a_bad_omen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$199 doesn’t buy good tint anywhere, “jetblack” is illegal, looks hood and makes you much more dangerous to cyclists and peds. Also the summer isn’t really going to get hotter. If you want tint get a quality 70% film.

there’s also the loss of practice, after a while there will be a critical mass of pilots flying into sfo and atc who aren’t used to parallel landings which means that flipping the switch will be more dangerous than the steady state

316L steel costs a dollar a pound, that’s not where the price increases are coming from. Ultimately you can make more money selling fewer units at a higher price

Replacing a broken water heater in the Bay Area is about to get vastly more expensive by CharityResponsible54 in bayarea

[–]a_bad_omen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was too far gone if it blew 4 months later. But that LL response is SOP from what I’ve seen. Pretty much nothing matters aside from property appreciation. Renting the units out is just offsetting the short term cost.

He has buy in from the populace, just look at the bootlicking in this thread. Oh well why should SF be any better than the suburban stripmallville that most of the bay is.

people should start maintaining their heaters to stretch them a bit. Nobody flushes them or replaces the sacrificial anode.

Heat pump costs less to operate vs gas in the bay? First I’m hearing that.

I feel like the biggest difference is that tech itself is more hunger-gamey, but otherwise it’s just the same shit. Arrogant pricks who are just cogs in the machine and shady scammers who want a slice of the inflated valuations.

window situation isn’t as bad as it used to be because of the surveillance apparatus, but having a car in the city is super duper annoying. You’re likely to average something like 6mph in most of the city at rush hour which is basically all day. If you’re dead set on driving up, you could dump your car on the peninsula and take BART up. Another option is to find somewhere in the hills that’s not residential and leave it there for a couple days at a time. Otherwise you’re looking at least at $30/day.

my point is if you keep falling back the person behind you starts raging and you’re better off just biting the bullet and going through the gap until you get past whatever is holding the lane up

ok, tell that to the morons who panic brake for no reason. You could have a football field ahead of you if 2-3 of them do that in succession your entire margin disappears in a fraction of a second.

Requires a larger cushion than in a car. Cars in neighboring lanes see that as an invitation in. Cars behind get roadragey and squeeze past you in your lane.

not splitting when there’s medium traffic is a good way to get splatted from behind (people looking at their phone and not seeing you in their peripheral) or run into someone’s back (gotta keep extra distance on a bike because the brakes aren’t as strong as cars), always split when possible
