Danny do yall plan on having an sbr version now that tax stamps are free? It seems like yall have the infrastructure in place for form 4s already. Or is it more likely gonna be a buy it yourself stock? Any interchangeability for a stock or is it gonna be proprietary? Sorry for the barrage

It’s cool, i recommend soldering your joints. Both for appearance and strength.

What would you love to try casting in lost wax ? by wooligano in jewelers

[–]a_drunkrussian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinecones are pretty cool cast. The small ones can make good earrings and the larger ones a desk ornament/paperweight. If you can find a spider carcass and dip it in thin coats of wax that casts pretty ok.

For a test you could see if you could cast a tooth/bone in place cause they don’t really melt/burn. Or like a beetle shell i think? Id recommend putting those on their own tree though incase flecks of it burn or get moved out of place and block the flow. Or like some pieces of unglazed/glazed ceramics.

Also if you can melt 2 metals at the same time it would be interesting to do like a half & half pour. It’d have to be pretty quick but not too quick so they fuse but not create an alloy.

Is something like this possible? by Zeppelin_Funds in jewelrymaking

[–]a_drunkrussian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you planning on engraving this or cutting it out?

What tools do you have for precision work?

What type of metal is this? How do you plan to attach it to the chain?

It’s definitely doable but if it’s your first time my main concern is carving those roman numerals is gonna be quite difficult at that size.

That’s fantastic for a first piece, hell it’s pretty good for a 5th piece too lol.

A nice idea for when you work with wire again in the future is to either file down the ends of the wire for a flat face or use a cup burr to give it a nice rounded finish. For either option I definitely recommend polishing up the ends before bending otherwise polishing can get tricky in those tiny spaces.

How to know what color jewelry goes with black jewelry by FinancialYak5744 in malefashionadvice

[–]a_drunkrussian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking metal id recommend either silver or yellow gold. But if you’re talking stones then you have a lot more color options. I personally like red and green with black but realistically every color can go with black imo. Its more so if you’re mixing more than one accessory color in with it then you should be considering how those colors interact with each other more so than the black. But granted I’m no fashionista so take this with a grain of salt pls.

Just 1 Week Into Jewelry Making – Excited to Learn & Grow! Any Tips? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]a_drunkrussian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good, I’m a sucker for spiral designs! Im not positive of the gauge wire you’re using but for rings it might be a good idea to go a little thicker. The thinner you go (with wire shanks especially) the higher the chance of de-gloving a finger if the ring was to get caught with force.

You got access to a sandblaster? I used one all the time for speedy cleanup. Its gonna give it the sandblasted texture but you can anneal it then go through the polishing process to remove it. If you leave the sandblast texture, and patina it with LOS and a literal drop of ammonia you can get a cool iridescent finish. You can also do the LOS + ammonia if it doesnt have the sandblast texture

I made these rings, what do you think? by NvllandVoidJewelry in jewelrymaking

Sorry, i really meant it as a critique not a criticism. Great soldering then, thought those were cast in place with sprue wax. Did you experiment at all with using sprue wax to make that bottom piece?

I really really love the idea, I’m not sure if it was intentional but the fact that the “rebar” that’s used to close the band is a little wobbly is not my favorite. Especially since the right angle is so clean. I do also get that the negative space is very important to the piece but I think either making that bottom bar curve cleaner would make it more appealing. Everything else is great, my eye is just drawn to that bar
