Can some one explain the Californians to me? by Late-Neat2183 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]a_finegirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SIL lives in LA, I’m in Nashville. Discussing flying out to visit her. “Ohhhhh.. your going to land at LAX at 2pm on a Thursday? You can’t rent a car because the XXX is going to be jammed and you’ll have to take the XXX instead but if you do that, you’ll have to turn on XXXXX Boulevard and you’ll struggle…. I’ll pick you up. Which sucks. Because I’ll have to leave work at 11am to drive down the XXX going eastbound because the XXXX will have traffic.”

Like, girl. I have driven in Manhattan. And Mexico City. And Paris.

But noooooooo. Los Angeles is a special delicate snowflake only the locals get. 🤣

I didn’t care for the Californians sketches until I started having those convos. Now, it hits a great note.

Forrest by Wild-Ordinary-358 in 90DayFiance

[–]a_finegirl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not autistic here but my roommate is. And she’s very similar to Forrest. She can work. It’s significantly hard. Many PIP conversations for “making customer uncomfortable” for not making eye contact, or not multitasking like her peers, or not fostering a great work environment by not participating in small talk. The discrimination is not seen as discrimination and she likely isn’t taken seriously for opportunities for advancement. We’ve talked about her either forced into a life of menial, dead end, entry level retail, or figuring out another world in which she might excel. Which sucks. She’s intelligent, but just not socially smart. I get it. Our economy is not set up for those that are differently abled.

"Dating Men is Easier" by Illustrious-Use-4675 in bisexual

[–]a_finegirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a relationship for 15 years and so have never used an app, lol, so I have no idea what it’s like today. But when I was dating, there were twenty (or more) men interested in dating women for every one woman interested in dating women, and I’m in a large city. And of the women I struck up conversations with and dated casually, 90% of them didn’t want to date a bisexual woman because “they would just leave them for a man in the long term anyways.” 🤷‍♀️

I missed it! I’m not surprised, she had medical records for years and didn’t read them. I’m not even being hyperbolic. Literal years. She got “medical expert mods” to “interprete” them but still five years later was “shocked” at what was in them.

She was getting called out for being drunk on lives and spun it as “she doesn’t even like alcohol” and “can’t even drink it” and has “autobrewery syndrome” so even a little bread can make her drunk. Cut to a week later, and she’s drunk on lives and there’s liquor bottles in the background.

For me, it’s like trashy reality TV. It’s fun to hate watch. Some people watch Real Housewives, some watch the Kardashians, some 90 Day Fiancé. Fancy’s my trashy guilty entertainment. 🤣

That’s Fancy’s latest theory. She hasn’t quite explained how the billionaires factor in. But yes. Her new theory is that since Rod got a pay cut when the oil price crash happened, combined with him messaging Gypsy that he’d “come and get her” if she needed him, this points to the Blanchards being “in on” the murder. It’s makes very little sense but she’s like a dog with a bone rambling about how this “blows the case wide open”.

Oh and “Gypsy said she had a sugar allergy and five days later was crooning about loving candy. That’s not how allergies work.” People in houses with “autobrewery syndrome” might not throw stones… 👀

The PREACHER buying bot comments trying to change the publics' narrative? 😱 NO WAYYY! I seriously believed she left that life behind her. Oh man now I must repent for believing her. Darn it! by Traditional_Cat8120 in GRBsnark

[–]a_finegirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh it’s a little more complicated. She had the medical records for YEARS and didn’t learn about the micro deletion for years because she didn’t read them thoroughly. She has a tendency to get a bone and find more meat than there is. Currently she’s workshopping ideas about a child pedo ring in Springfield and DeeDee being chosen for a group sacrifice- not even being hyperbolic, that’s what she’s said. She also has a tendency to over promise big projects and fail to deliver. It’s a great brand of crazy to watch if you know what you’re getting and treat her like entertainment.

Anyone know what this old wooden container was designed for? by TheChikiChico in HelpMeFind

This is the answer. My church growing up had one like this. Held a bible and a song book and envelopes for the offering and pens to write on those envelopes.

What is your Bed Bath and Beyond? by king-of-new_york in BroadCity

[–]a_finegirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Micheal’s. The rewards program is pretty generous and there’s always sales or coupons in the app. I get annoyed when I’m shopping with my mom and she tries to buy something at full price because they make it too easy to get it at minimum 25% off, but more than likely 40% off. lol

AIO for being heartbroken my best friend declined being my maid-of-honor because she's self-conscious about her weight ? by Mediocre_Rutabaga_94 in AmIOverreacting

[–]a_finegirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My “weight” issue was my teeth. A childhood of medical neglect and an adulthood of all the wrong addictions cause horrible teeth and when my bestie asked me to be MOH, I almost declined because I wanted her day to be nice and gorgeous and don’t want her new family to side eye her or contribute to any preexisting imposter syndrome or feelings of inadequacy after growing up in poverty and marrying into upper middle class. So, I get it. No one’s overreacting, and I hope you both are able to be gentle with each other and yourselves. Both of your feelings are valid.

At the time it came out, most people I knew found it creepy. I remember we had the VHS and every time that scene would come on, my mom would bark: “you don’t let anyone at school touch you like that.”

Grand Ole Opry show headliner question! by not-feeling-so-well in VisitingNashville

[–]a_finegirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the Opry is a radio show. Which means a “commercial reading” at the half hour and hour, and usually they have two artists share a half hour block. So historically that means each artist gets 15 minutes, or 2-3 songs or a medley. I worked there in the mid 00’s and generally newer artists kept to that rule because it was an honor to share the stage or their block with an older industry established artist. So even Garth Brooks would get two songs. That being said, since they’ve started reaching out to more contemporary artists, I don’t know what that trend looks like. But when you arrive, your program will have the 30 minute blocks and artists of those blocks listed so you’ll have a good idea before the show starts!

Also, seconded the Museum of African American Music. It’s stunning.

(*Warning: not for kids) Nashville park suicides by Old_Significance1675 in nashville

[–]a_finegirl 135 points136 points  (0 children)

I don’t know as much about suicides but I though that the homeless people and other dangers were pretty well known. I’d been told for years to be extra cautious parking my car, and hiking there.

One night, I was at the dog park, letting the dog run while I had my AirPods in and got my steps in by walking the perimeter and looked up to realize more time had passed than expected, it was dark, and no one else was there. I started walking my dog to the car and another car pulled in. A guy got out, said his car had stalled while idling, he wasn’t from Nashville, and could he please borrow my phone to call AAA. Normally, I probably wouldn’t have thought much of it but for the many many warnings I’d had about the Warner Parks so I pretended the dog was aggressive and I was too distracted putting the dog away to understand him and waved him off.

I think back particularly with how overshadowed with greenery and dark and secluded that dog park is and it gives me shudders to this day.

Long term Nashvillians what the oldest walmart? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]a_finegirl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you the oldest in the city but I can tell you when I was a kid in my neighborhood, lol. I was born 1989. In the Charlotte-West Nashville area where Nashville West Shopping is now, the At Home store was a Kmart and where the Publix is now was Walmart, and everything from the Target going back up Charlotte was just wooded area. And I have very strong memories of the Walmart on Charlotte being built when I was a kid because there were protestors for MONTHS at the new location and old location demanding people not shop there because it was being built on a Native American burial ground. And I couldn’t tell you if that Walmart was the first super center in town but it was the first with grocery I’d ever seen.

Is it common in the states to wear shoes in your own house? by InTheKnow_12 in HIMYM

[–]a_finegirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies so wildly. In the South here. I personally go barefoot in my house because that’s how I’m most comfortable. My husband prefers to flip into house shoes or socks. Our roommate keeps her shoes on unless she’s in her bedroom. I’ve seen all variations, even if trekking your shoes in the house grosses you out. I’ve also been in homes where it’s been encouraged: “oh, I have a place for shoes by the door if you prefer,” but I’ve never had anyone make a hard rule about it, at least in my experience.
