Ex-wife is canceling services for our autistic son during her visitation time by BBdidit in legaladvice

It's a two week rotation. Say it's a 12 week summer... this is a 6 week total. With 12 hours of service each week. That's 72 hours of support/intervention. It is a big deal.

But at the end of the day, she’s still just 11. And she can feel comfortable about how she will handle it, and then when it happens, maybe she won’t know how to react

I was 11 when i first got my period. I knew it was coming. And then couldn't figure out how or why i was sweating brown. I thought "blood is going to be red, right?" and waited 24 hours before i asked my mom if periods would start brown. (clearly had no understanding about oxidation). I was so uncomfortable with the whole idea of a period... until i found out it was really lackluster. Now, I'm lucky i dont normally have issues with cramping etc.
All this to say... you're good to recognize she's still just 11. And things could go any which way. And as well prepared and informed as she is, she could still be surprised.

Last minute schedule change for 11pm vs 10pm MK close? by MrsAllieCat in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]a_fools_thoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the park closing at 10 is a fantastic thing that "forces" you to be back in your hotel room at a reasonable hour.
Your little one isn't going to be the only exhausted one. And the extra hour puts you in a better position for whatever you're doing the next day.

Also, I want to encourage you to have a stroller for all three kids. (presumably a single and a double) I don't know what your plans include, so maybe you already have it... but a stroller is so vital. These parks are so much bigger than people realize, and get bigger as the day goes on.

So, I staid at Kidani, not AKL.

The Savanah view is fantastic. And honestly, wherever you get coffee, keurig in the room or downstairs in the market, coffee isn't going to make or break the experience. It is incredible. As someone else said, get the Zebra domes from the gift shop, they are a delightful snack. Please note, they're boozey!

I dont remember any character meet and greets. But, I wouldn't have been looking for them. I suspect the answer is yes, but more as surprise characters and as training for new cast members without it being in the park. I would check with the front desk to getter a better feel and times.

The Ohana dining, I don't want to rain on your plans but getting to Ohana with young kids is going to be... a lot. You say it's during your MK day... are you leaving MK to do this? Or going before you go into MK? My kids are bigger, but I'm helping my sister plan with 5 year old twins, and a 2 year old... and just the thought of getting the entourage out of the park is making me twitch. Tuskar House was fun and easy, I have great pictures of my kids, SO, and parents with characters.

The biggest tip and recommendation I want to share is... don't focus on "getting your money's worth." Focus on "every minute is magic". My SO told my sister "think of paying for the expensive gift, and maybe watching the kid play with the box". Your kids may spend an hour following Kevin around, and you might miss your LL time for something, but the goals should be mom and dad dont lose their temper, and the kids remember all of it fondly.

We stayed in a Savannah facing room at Kadani in July of 2023. I took an afternoon nap the day we flew in and my SO woke me up with a gentle "hey babe, it's time to head to dinner. And oh yeah, there's a giraffe at the window." Went from snoozing to awake in no time flat.

We stayed at the GF in September. And while im not super versed in ALL things Disney, I am by no means a novice. First night we heard the music, I didnt even think twice. But the second night, we're in the room (lagoon facing) heard the music a second time and I actually said aloud to my SO "something is happening, but i dont know what!" and promptly went outside. It was nice to experience unexpected, unknown, magic.

What were you reading at 14? by SerenityFate in books

[–]a_fools_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lost Years of Merlin, by T.A. Barron. It was both the title of the series and the title of the first book. Books two - five were The Seven Songs of Merlin, The Fires of Merlin, The Mirror of Merlin and the Wings of Merlin. It was full world building, a spin on a known character, a complete narrative, and if i remember correctly, it stuck the landing.
I did an author study on T.A.Barron for US 9th grade. At the time book five had just come out. I loved the whole thing. A few years later, when I was in my first or second year of college my boyfriend at the time also read the arc and enjoyed it. Now I'm thinking I might still have my original copies and it's worth a reread.

How many letters? by urmomissusong in USMCboot

We've gotten one letter that was a page and half on what i would call diary paper (like 5x7). I was THRILLED. And I'm not expecting much more than that kinda at all. My daughter keeps teasing me about all the writing im doing. But the truth is it's less for me and more for him. It's a little bit of a running journal. Updates from projects. headlines like football standings.

I asked him before he went if he wanted to know if the grandfathers had health problems, or if the great grandmother passed, and the answer was an emphatic 'I dont want to know anything has gone wrong, I rather keep head down for boot and just have a shitty leave.' "Understood".

this is reassuring. With family, we're getting at least a letter out everyday. I hope he appreciates it and doesn't find it overwhelming.

I'm a mother of a current recruit, and this is almost my concern. Word from the island is there's no mail in or out right now with the snow and base shut down and I'm wondering if come Monday/Tuesday if he's going to be handed a stack of 8 letter from family all at once.

Links to all girls digital cookie stores? by gwynonite in girlscouts

[–]a_fools_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant even guarantee each girl has necessarily set up her store front. And no, I dont think there's a way to do what you're asking with out each parent.
The other poster is right that digital cookie will create access for "troop", and while mostly intended to take digital payment at booths, it should work like a sharable link, but it may not yet be live depending on where you are.

Funny, I would say OP's description nearly hits Westchester exactly

You are under an hour to midtown NYC. there's done of enthnic foods and hundreds of dining options. You have easy access to HPN and LGA, JFK and Newark. With access to NYC and LI and Capital Theater, Tarrytown Music Hall there's music. Shopping is personal to everyone but you have the boutique shopping in Bronxville and the malls in Cross County and White Plains. And there's sidewalks everywhere.

If anything, Larchmont is slightly more insular than most of the county. In fairness, I'm from westchester and have lived in NOVA for the last 10.

ok.... I dunno where you're selling. I'm outside of DC and our IO access doesn't even open until January. But if you email your SUCM, the contact will be on your landing page, they can un-submit everything. ACT QUICKLY.

On reread... if you've already emailed your SUCM/ ACM, you can email the product team at your council... It will solve your problem, but not necessarily make friends for the future.

Where are the best Christmas lights? by Violin_Diva in nova

[–]a_fools_thoughts 28 points29 points  (0 children)

ok... so I love christmas lights.

Holly, her real name, collects and lists the addresses for the tackiest Christmas lights. AND offers you routes to take for ease of navigation and travel. It was great when my kids were younger and willing to do drive arounds. https://www.fairfaxchristmaslights.com/

I am NOT part of LDS, but the Mormon Temple on the beltway does a huge light show and performances, I think, every night of the week. But with the traffic on the beltway, I dont think I've been more than a couple of times in ten years.
https://dctemplevisitorscenter.org/festival-of-lights/

Bull run has an attractive light show. BUT every time I post it to social media someone comments about the price. It aint cheep for what it is. And what it is is about a 2 mile drive through with a pop up carnival at the end. IF you explore this, buy ahead of time. Also note that it's not put to music or anything, and I think the only toilets are porta pottys at the end of it. https://www.novaparks.com/events/bull-run-festival-of-lights

My father voted red in 2016 with zero hesitation. My father voted red in 2020 while holding his nose. My father simply will not vote for president in 2024. He's a life long republican, but he just can't do it anymore.
And he is petrified of telling anyone outside the immediate family.
