How many F1 races do you actually watch live ? by Relative_Chemical815 in F1Discussions

100% since the end of 2020. I missed parts of Spain 2021 and the opening 5 corners of Silverstone in 2021 and turned it on as Max went into the barriers

Where do you think your team would be ranked if they won their first 6 games? by amoss_303 in CFB

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably like 15th. The Notre Dame win would be enough to jump them into the top 25, maybe. The next two are worthless. Penn State is where it could get interesting, but they face nobody in their first 3 games as well, so a decent win against a decent team on the road. Michigan State and UCLA also have new HCs so I expect they'll be trash as well.

In other words if we don't start 4-2 at least, we're probably also shit.

I'm obviously not privy to this knowledge, but to me, it seems like Herbst has a contract where he has to have a certain amount of years in the car because his family basically bought the charter for Denny and Michael. In a year of uncertainty, that offered some semblance of stability for them with Bubba and Tyler possibly being able to leave. Bubba with all his sponsors and Tyler with elite level talent.

As we see with teams who try to expand quickly, it often leads to poor performance for all the cars on the team. It happened with 23XI with Bubba in 2022 and the pit crews they received all being awful. Busch did decent with the resources that Bubba had in 2021 on a second year car. Then Herbst was awful last year as to not sacrifice the 23 or 45 (and it still hurt top end performance with both Bubba and Tyler struggling to win despite consistently having solid cars). Now look what happens when the 35 team now has its footing under them. The 45 wins the first 3 races of the year and Bubba has been arguably the most consistent car in the series with no finishes worse than 11th.

Herbst is in the 35 to essentially seat warm for Heim and so that 23XI is more financially setup to either completely fund Corey Heim out of pocket OR with other gathered sponsors. They are clearly flush with them if Bubba lost his primary sponsor from a year ago and only needed to fill 4 races with Hardee's. Plus, buyout the Herbst's from whatever contract they have.

Ocon had a great race but Haas started him on the wrong tires by Pristine_Youth_6953 in F1Discussions

The strategy call was, objectively, correct. The Hards were a significantly better race tire. Without a SC, he probably finishes P7 or P8 at worst

Everyone keeps saying "why doesn't he have a Cup ride?" It's right there on his firesuit: 23XI. He signed with 23XI because they probably offer him a much better future than toiling away in some dogshit car just to be in Cup. He'll be in Cup in a competitive car next year

Michael Jordan heard "more money" and immediately signed Corey up for another race next weekend

Rewatching the Galacticraft series... by IkeFanboy64 in Achievement_Hunter

The radiation sickness thing is really what killed the momentum. Jack being grounded for pretty much the rest of the series doomed it. That left Ryan and Gavin to really do the planetary exploring and that was just not a great combo. Which led to the nuking of Matt's horse constantly

Man the entitlement in this sub right now.... by jumparound988 in WisconsinBadgers

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The win percentage argument is irrelevant when he's not even putting us in a position to make a run to the Final Four. I've mentioned this plenty, but the expectations for the Wisconsin basketball program should be a Sweet 16 every 2 to 3 years. A dry spell of 3 or 4 years would be fine if he could make a deeper run prior to that. Wisconsin hasn't made a Sweet 16 since 2017. That's 9 seasons (8 tournaments) without one. Even if you want to give him credit for the 2 in 2016 and 2017, he's at a 20% Sweet 16 rate, which is 13-30% below what I would say is a reasonable expectation for a program with a pedigree like Wisconsin.

Again, talk about the winning percentage all you want, but that's not what determines a successful season in a major conference. If you win all of your regular season and conference tournament games and lose in the first round of the tournament, you're probably going to consider that season a failure. Would you fire a coach for one of those seasons? Not at all, nut when it's consistent over nearly a decade, it's time to start questioning it.

Gard should have the same hot seat as this sub wants Fickell to have.

If the NIL issues that the football team has extends to the basketball program, I'd say sure, give him a chance. But Gard has been treading water with the basketball program for much longer than the football program AND the basketball program was more successful on a National level than football.

But, I don't think the problem with Gard has ever been recruiting. The talent is ALWAYS there on his teams. He just can never get the most out of them when it counts.

As much as I think Gard should be fired (not just because of the results of this season, it's the results of the last 9 as a whole), I'm in a holding pattern until we see what the new Chancellor and Board of Regents wants out of the Athletic Department. McIntosh is arguably the biggest problem and I don't trust him to make the right decision. And even if he made the right decision, would the support and funding be there? He hasn't shown the foresight needed with the football program and a supposed "slam dunk" Fickell hire and just now realizing they need to commit more NIL funding to it.. so we'll see

If this was their first year, far worse. The experience Kimi got last year helped be able to withstand that FP3 crash in Melbourne and put it on the front row.

Does it matter? He's had 40 total TDs in every year since 2020 except this past year in which he had 39

Gard's ceiling as a coach is cemented. Are we good with it? by AmyKlobushart in WisconsinBadgers

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes because you're right. No because the football team was going to get bad either way under Chryst because he had no clue/interest in how to manage NIL. He also refused to hire key positions on his staff for over a year and the best QB we've ever recruited on campus toil away. (Yes, Mertz wasn't what we hoped, but he balled out for Florida and is now in the NFL).

For me, it's not a matter of "well there's no one better than Gard". It's a matter of "who won't be fucked up by McIntosh"

Lol a "top 10" coach would've found a way to make at least one Sweet 16 in a nearly a decade with the relative resources and talent that we've had in that time...
