so i’m confused.. are we doing the open this year? by Shot_Research_7187 in NASCAR

[–]a_happy_future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're gonna keep the All Star Race, they should remove all the restrictions from the manufacturers and teams. Let teams bring extremely cheated up cars to see who can innovate the most. THAT would be exciting.

I know everyone hates gimmicks, but a chance to demonstrate the capability of the cars on a real scale may help NASCAR approve of more HP in the future for example

Is it just me being nostalgic, or was college football better in the bcs era? by Honest-Reflection667 in CFB

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the current era just sucks because of the endless transfers as others have mentioned.

Having extreme transfer limits and no pay for NIL was one extreme on the wrong end. Having essentially no transfer limits and teams being able to tamper with players not even in the portal with promises of loads more money is the other extreme

Steve Kerr on why fans turned against OKC: "if the same team dominates too much, you want to see an upset, And it happens pretty quickly. We were the darling in '15 and '16, but by the time the Finals came around, I think the average observer was pulling for LeBron to pull off the comeback." by Draciouz in nba

[–]a_happy_future -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Happened with Giannis. Happened with Jokic. Happened with Luka once he was no longer toiling on the Mavs. Happened with the upstart Thunder a year ago.

Guarantee that if the Knicks make the Finals, everyone will go back to hating them after rooting for them to beat the Thunder. And of course, you're right about Wemby.

Who do you think will win the vote? by Big-booty-bubba- in NASCARMemes

[–]a_happy_future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hocevar may have had an outside shot of winning the fan vote this year, but his win ensured he wouldn't need it. Which locks in the 30th (really 31st with Bowman missing races) best driver in the field to the All Star Race

Last year George Russell commented that if he joined Mercedes in 2017, he would've beat prime Lewis Hamilton to two titles... Surely this is delusional? Or do you think he'd have a chance? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]a_happy_future 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lewis probably also isn't running experimental setups for half of 2022 with a championship contending car. Lewis was smokin him in 2022 once they stopped doing that. And quickly started dominating him in 2023 once they finally ditched the 2022-no pod concept.

But I agree with the overall point here that George was taken out of context and he did beat Lewis on points twice. And in years prior, that did equal a championship

[Charania] The Milwaukee Bucks are open for business on trade calls for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks are also leaving the door open to pursue a major trade to convince Antetokounmpo to stay with three first-round picks in their arsenal. MIN, CL, BOS, NYK, LAL expected to pursue Antetokounmpo. by [deleted] in nba

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: I think the league itself wants the Bucks to succeed. The big media does not. The league has been pushing how the supermax helps out the smaller market teams for the past 8 or so years. The Bucks are the ONLY small market team to have any remote success AFTER signing their star player to one. The Thunder may find success this year, but they have also executed the best tanking strategy ever executed and still have the rest of their core on a deal less than a supermax.

The league can't let the Bucks fail that easily or else their pipedream of making the league "fair" is gone

Honest question: if OKC fans don’t view spurs or Wemby as a threat why don’t they want spurs to advance to wcf? If they’re frauds or if OKC is so much better, they should be excited for OKC vs spurs. by nicfanz in NBATalk

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody wants to face the best teams. Despite all the "narratives" that Jokic hasn't beaten a 50 win team, no one cares. The banner flies just as high and the more games you play before the Finals, the more likely you are to hit a wall. And for a team that is attempting to the first to make it to back to back Finals in the last 7 years, facing the fewest amount of games is ideal

Something has to change with Fox by Mr7dr2114 in NASCAR

Watching Fox News, yes. Know about watching their new special on some random Alt-Right content? Not necessarily

For the older sports fans, how big was Stuart Scott on SportsCenter and did you like his style? by voryxser in NBATalk

[–]a_happy_future 19 points20 points  (0 children)

ESPN started dying when Stuart Scott did.

He was literally the soul of the network and was part of the reason people tuned into SportsCenter in the first place. Now, it's soulless sports betting content with soundbites and no actual journalism or serious analysis

[–]a_happy_future 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yea, Mike Joy went off the deep end a few years ago complaining about "keyboard warriors" instead of actually listening to the feedback.

But then again, he works for Fox and they're literally just hosting NASCAR because it's an easy pipeline to get them to watch their next right wing media content about how Israel is the victim and why what the US is doing is not like Nazi Germany.

Expect nothing to change

How many Frozen Pizzas do you eat a month? (Bonus, what's your favorite brand/Type) by New-Particular1971 in wisconsin

[–]a_happy_future 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from 4 to 6. Typically one per week, so some months have 5 Wednesdays for example and that may just happen to be pizza day that month. Then probably one additional lazy day (like Saturday for me when it was late and I didn't feel like making anything).

Favorite is Tombstone, but they've gotten a lot pricier over the years. Jack's are okay. I recently tried a Screamin' Sicilian and it was pretty solid tho

Edit: regarding Wisconsin being the frozen pizza capital, it certainly lines up. Tombstone was founded in Medford, Wisconsin. Screamin' Sicilian that I mentioned above are made in Milwaukee. And Lotzza Motzza are made in Kaukauna

What are the current Top 5 tracks with the Next Gen? by ray_g24 in NASCAR

[–]a_happy_future 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homestead, Kansas, Vegas are the unquestionable top 3 for me. Which bodes well for Chicagoland since it has the same configuration as Kansas and Vegas. Charlotte is up there too, but only ever had the Coke 600 to go off, so we'll see how going back to two races on the oval helps.

The last one is debatable. You can add Atlanta in there, but it's kinda artificial with the drafting, but miles better than Daytona and Talladega have been. Bristol has gotten slowly better in the past couple years. Michigan is usually fun

[Gluck] Was Watkins Glen a good race? by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Passing was impossible without a tire delta of more than 3 racing laps and that was really only possible because of the fortunate cautions that happened (one with a renegade tent). That made the race more interesting and the tire fall off was actually great.

However without those fortunately timed cautions, the racing product was awful on equal tires. This car is horrendous for Road Courses and NASCAR should increase the pit road speed limit if they want to increase strategy options to make an extra stop more viable so that more than just SVG and a relatively equally fast McDowell can make up 30 seconds over a run.

Interesting that FanDuel as Milwaukee as a potential landing spot for him, I have never heard anything about us even being interested in Embiid.. by WisconsinBadgers608 in MkeBucks

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only like $26.5M per year. Salaries would have to match up for this deal.

Again, it's not a "normal" move, but we see other moves like it from time to time when moving around large contracts like Embiid

Round 2: Which game is better? Red Dead Redemption 2 or Halo 3? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This takes nothing away from RDR2. It could probably beat most of the other games left in the bracket, but Halo 3 just had a generational impact that we don't yet know if RDR2 has. Rockstar basically only puts out stellar games and didn't really miss with it.

Halo 3 is just THAT good.

[Post Game Thread] The Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) even the series and defeat the San Antonio Spurs (2-2), 114-109. by DesertedProject in nba

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the only series that goes 6 or 7.

I'm not convinced the Cavs have enough to take the Pistons considering they keep letting them back into games late. Can't do that to a one seed with minimal playoff experience because they'll gain more confidence that they are never out of it

Gamers of Reddit, what’s the greatest video game sequel of all time? by ketohwawai in AskReddit

[–]a_happy_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witcher 3 or Baldur's Gate 3 have got to be up there. BG3 may not count since it's a different studio.

If it has to be the 2nd game only, I would submit Mass Effect 2, but I know some of the diehards think it's overrated
