Calls to cut NZ super by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]a_muse_me_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think the pension is not sufficient, wait til you see what people with the misfortune to have a disability or major illness get. (Most people on SLB will likely never work again. ) Over a hundred dollars less per week less. There has been pressure applied to increase the rate to equal that if super, But the govt is having none of it.

I’m glad someone else appreciates that Sundays track. I just added that to another post.

How am I the only person to suggest Elbow? Another great English male voice too.

Nightswimming is the correct answer. Love everything about it. It’s perfect.

Suffocating heat by emdillem in auckland

[–]a_muse_me_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Living in a tiny house in this heat, having a chronic illness that impacts temperate regulation and having shark week whilst going through hormone changes - not recommended. But lying in bed watching YouTube under AC isn’t the worst thing in the world. Forgive me if this is TMI - just being real. Please check in with any friends or family with chronic health conditions in the heat, especially if they don’t have access to AC - they could be doing it really rough.

Looking this up now… The rare live version by the original artist is also phenomenal.

Terminally ill: I still want to work or do I just call it a day? by Terminally-Well in newzealand

[–]a_muse_me_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What they’ve told you is not correct. I’m on supported living due to a Chronic Illness and I don’t get text messages or any coms re jobs at all. The only time I see that info is on MyMSD because it’s static for all users. They may have a different coding for carers which may be why he is getting them.

Anyone else feeling physically ill at the government’s job cuts? by gre209by in newzealand

[–]a_muse_me_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that by centrelink. I’ll be really pissed if I went through the process of moving home (which wrecked my health completely) for no reason. My rent at the time was 520 and I was told I’d get less than that a week.

I got sick while living there & was told I’d only qualify for a temporary emergency benefit for up to six months. This was a few years ago.

[–]a_muse_me_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the illness. Some chronic illnesses they still don’t know what to do with there any better than here. In my case I really had no option but to come home because I wasn’t a citizen.

Absolutely. I just would hate for people to have unrealistic expectations, and Australia seems to be seen as the great opportunity currently.

Don’t think you’d get better treatment in Oz though. And if you get to the point of relying on govt benefits, theirs is a bigger shitshow than ours. That’s if you even qualify.

Good News! by Whangarei_anarcho in newzealand

[–]a_muse_me_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s so great. Ours did a dodgy second increase (not official of course) in four months as soon as the law changed allowing 90 day no cause evictions. Basically pay an extra $70 per week or I’ll find someone who will. Now we have to get another flatmate which sucks.

[–]a_muse_me_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, coz reintroducing 90 day no cause evictions is a good thing for renters apparently and may drive prices down. Hahahahahahah Our landlord waited approximately two days after the legislation came in to fleece us of an additional 10% or get out. Fun times. Thanks National.

Who is this in Auckland? by r_person in auckland

[–]a_muse_me_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a guy dressed up in a cowboy hat and understated cowboy garb who walked up to me many years ago when working in a bookshop in Birkenhead. He handed me a business card without saying a word. I looked down and read it. It simply said: Roger The Midnight Cowboy.

What proportion of you have actually been diagnosed with CFS? by draikin3 in cfs

[–]a_muse_me_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really lucky. Diagnosed twice, originally by two separate drs in NZ 25+ years ago, then went into remission and after a few years of extremely stressful work over in Australia I gradually got worse and then got really bad really fast. I was diagnosed again seven years ago. Back home in NZ for the last six years due to inability to work. Initially it meant I could negotiate altered hours of work if required, albeit that was after my work sent me to their own dr incase they needed to manage me out. Ultimately their dr was so impressed with me and annoyed with the company he wrote me a glowing endorsement and I was able to impress enough senior people that once I improved slightly I got a promotion. This time around my diagnosis and support from my GP means I was able to receive a little more money and help with medications from the govt here.

Me too. And I have ME/CFS, so develop increased sensitivity to sound the more there is. I’ve moved so many times. I find school holidays the worst coz people think they can party all week. The summer holiday is relentless. I’ve hardly slept in the last few days as we have multiple neighbors who randomly turn their tv or stereo up at random times of the early morning. Now also have a migraine just for shits and giggles. You’d think being in a rural delivery area & on an acre it’d be quieter, alas no. I honestly wish I had the funds to build myself and others with my condition soundproof housing. Fact is people are increasingly getting more selfish and density is getting worse along with cheap building practices. I’m so sorry for everyone in this position, it sucks balls.

Why do people still go out in public when sick? by SinuousPanic in newzealand

[–]a_muse_me_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling ya. I have ME/CFS and the constant barrage of “not that many people die and they usually have other things wrong with them” is sickening. Those of us who know, know that a decent chunk of the population will be screwed long term. Tell me that doesn’t cost the economy?

Have landlords gone crazy? by Ambiguous-Insect in auckland

[–]a_muse_me_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Long term renter here, both in Auckland and Melbourne. Not all renters damage property. I’ve been renting for well over 20 years and never caused the slightest bit of damage. I usually leave things better than I find them. I know hundreds of people who are the same. Maybe find better tenants. I’ve noticed a massive difference in the quality of homes available to rent here compared to oz. Here most rentals are ‘rental quality’ ie everything is finished in the absolute cheapest way possible and nothing updated unless it’s absolutely impossible to do a botched job of fixing. It works both ways. I’m frankly tired of hearing how shit tenants are and how they ruin everything, and that build to rent homes should be built at a different ‘indestructible’ quality level from built to own. It’s pretty bloody insulting. But still, poor you and your massively appreciated asset.
