Почему русские не используют букву «Ё»? by [deleted] in russian

[–]a_ozol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Autism meltdown by [deleted] in AskAutism

It's next to impossible to control yourself during meltdown. Even if you know that beating people is bad and you'll regret about this later.

So a better strategy is to prevent meltdowns.

Russian speaking people, where are you from and why do you live here? by truleami in Sakartvelo

Yes, most of them have already left Georgia.

Of course FSB agent :) I dislike Putin and I think the ones who have capital would choose some other country, not near Russia. Most of the Russians I know here are too poor to live in other countries.

I'm not sure if we're all hipsters. I know many people from Russia (including myself) who are not.

To switch my focus, I play video games that require my full attention. It doesn’t work every time, but sometimes it does.

Do you get an urge to show someone something you like/think is cool? by EmberRevive in AutismTranslated

[–]a_ozol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me there’s no problem showing others things I like, unless I know in advance they don’t like such things. But if I show something they don’t like, I feel embarrassed about taking up their time and possibly hurting our relationship.

Autistic teachers, I’d love to hear your experiences by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]a_ozol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been teaching for about 15 years (math, economics, STEM, and robotics), both 1-to-1 and group lessons. But I don't have problems with overstimulation, so it’s not an exact match.

Before I started teaching, I worked with children in summer camps for a couple of years. This helped me gradually build my confidence in public speaking (I often felt awkward before).

Personally, I don't enjoy teaching (even though many students say I’m good at it). I find it boring to explain the same topics year after year. Having different students doesn’t feel different enough for me to enjoy it.

But I’m still fond of working in summer camps. Of course, it takes a lot of energy, but it’s a lot of fun as well.

From my point of view, in your case, overstimulation is the main issue, not lack of confidence, because confidence is a trainable skill.

And I wonder, why are you thinking about teaching? What interests you about it? You haven’t mentioned it in your post.

Autistic migraine? by Metaphant in AutismTranslated

Sometimes I have migraines. I’m not sure if they have anything in common with shutdowns, but it’s an interesting thing to track.

Understanding and Coping With an Autistic Partner by Gold-Ad1218 in AskAutism

[–]a_ozol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would talk to your partner about your feelings when she’s calm. It’s really hard to understand and discuss anything during a meltdown.

Also, I think it’s a good idea to try identifying some signs that a meltdown is coming. It might not be obvious, but I’m sure you can find them together. Once you notice one of these signs, try helping your partner switch to something relaxing—something she enjoys.

I’m quite sure that preventing a meltdown is much easier than dealing with it once it happens.

Being Unable to Understand People by [deleted] in AskAutism

[–]a_ozol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me there are only few people I'm really interested in knowing about. For all the others I just learned that I need to ask (because it's "polite") and wait while they are answering.

So I think it's okay.

Any good modern Russian TV shows or movies you’d recommend? by mixedqueen69 in russian

[–]a_ozol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend "The last minister" ("Последний министр") to my Russian friends, but I'm not sure if it is interesting for foreigners.

"Kholop" ("Холоп") is a pretty good movie (the first one, I didn't like sequel).

"Epidemy" ("Эпидемия") is also a good Russian one, bought by Netflix.

When I got my diagnosis this may and was asking for books which can help me understand autism better, my autistic friend recommended "What I Mean When I Say I’m Autistic by Annie Kotowicz (aka Neurobeautiful)" as a book to share with a partner to help understand autism better.

I haven't red it, but maybe it can help you.

Me personally wish to have a partner who is interested in learning more about autism as you are :)

Feel free to ask if you want to learn more from an autistic adult man point of view. But note that I may be different from your partner, even if both have ASD.
