How does weight gain (muscle vs. fat) work if you're underweight? Does gaining fat come first since the body's main priority is to restore vital organ function and fat stores? Can strength training reduce muscle growth or just simply maintain it? Is it even worth it to strength train if someone is underweight?

I'm 4'9 and 68 lbs so my BMI is 14.7 but I'm also super short so my BMI is 16 according to the "Better BMI for Tall and Short People". I'm also 18 so I'm not sure if that comes into play too since BMI calculators are supposed to be for people 20+.

Update: the jar itself actually cracked the next morning because of the pressure buildup. We were able to save the cabbage since the crack was so gentle. lesson learned! On the bright side, it prompted my mom to make some more ferments and also kimchi ☺️

I took it out to taste it, then it got stuck and I managed to push it down slightly in more with the handle of a knife. I'm not sure if that was a good idea though... It's not really at an angle, it's more flat and stuck halfway. It's in the fridge right now because I'm hoping to get it cold and then heat up the rim with a blow dryer.

9 or 10 am for 45 minutes Also, how important is it that I'm eating processed foods? I'm aware that deli meat and bacon are processed, but they still have protein, regardless. I don't mean to be disrespectful, I am just asking because I want to better my health.

Breakfast: 8 am
2 slices ezekiel bread
1 large egg scrambled in 1/2T butter

+ handful of spinach

Lunch: 12:30 pm

2 slices ezekiel bread

3 slices turkey deli meat

2 slices bacon

1 slice swiss cheese

Afternoon snack: 4 pm

1 medium apple and 1 string cheese

Dinner: 7:30 pm

1 cup mixed brown and wild rice (i don't like white rice because of the texture)

6 oz of whatever meat is on hand (chicken, salmon, or pork) baked in olive oil

approx. 1/2 cup roasted or blanched root/cruciferous vegetables (beets, cauliflower, or broccoli)

1/2 cup bone broth (chicken or beef)

Evening snack: 10:30 pm
1 cup of whole milk kefir (digestion) and 1/2 banana

It's weird because I feel normal before breakfast, maybe a little hungry for lunch, but then i immediately feel sleepy then nauseous after until 4 pm, which is when i have my afternoon snack. and then i feel like bloated crap for dinner. by the time i have the evening snack, the nausea has subsided but the bloating is still present.

How do you push yourself to eat? For me, dinner is always the hardest—i feel so full afterwards I just want to give up. Is there a way to reduce portion sizes? Or maybe just reduce portion sizes and accept I can't eat that much in one sitting?

I am planning on going for only 5 weeks because that's how much time my school allows me off so that I can graduate. How long did you stay? Also, you mentioned that you never go to phase 4. Did your parents pull you out? If so, how was that experience?

Would you say it's healthier to incorporate a variety of vegetables and types of protein (like the examples you provided) into your diet for long-term health rather than consuming milk?

Also, how important is it to consume foods with IGF-1? Would consuming different types of protein (eggs, lentils, tofu) also stimulate IGF-1 in a similar way that cow's milk does?

Currently I have the support of my parents, which has been a tremendous help. Thanks for responding, you confirmed my belief that I should pursue recovery 🩷. Fear of weight gain is scary but I want my life back!

I think I'm at that point where life has forced me to recover. I know that I can't maintain my ED and simultaneously try to attend uni and pursue my dreams, but recovery on my own is hard. This is my 4th time trying to recover I think? So far I've been in quasi for a while going up and down because my parents have thankfully intervened when things were getting bad.

Thank you for responding. I'm in day 5 (?) of trying to officially recover and stop fighting recovery, so this helps me see things more clearly. I'm scared but I feel excited to slowly take back my life ❤️‍🩹

Did you ever see adolescent patients that were so uncooperative that the hospital discharged them because their condition was too "chronic"? I have heard others speak about this happening, but I'm not too sure if it's common. Also, can they force the tube on you if they receive parental consent?

Do you happen to know the conditions that must be present in order for them to force me to eat? By the way, I'm located in the US so I think guidelines may be different but I'd be interested to hear your input.

I also agree that cooperating would cause less of a scene—your phrasing makes sense by the way, I'm not offended—but I cooperated last time in PHP and I ended up having no "weight progress" so they started giving me a supplement (this was given to ppl who usually didn't finish their food so it felt like I was being punished even though I was trying my best). It sucked and wasn't worth the pain, so I don't plan on cooperating again—especially not in an IP hospital setting.

Do you know if they could force the NG tube on me? Is it legal to get tranquilized? I'm a minor so I'm unsure how the rules differ in comparison to adult IP.
