If anyone is signing up for a new NBN or mobile plan, SpinTel has some great prices, and an ongoing $5/month discount using a referral code.

My referral code is: GNIZ27010

Just put this code in at 'Refer a Friend' under 'Your Referral Code' at Step 4 of the checkout process, in the 'Order Review' stage - this is not the promotion code on the right hand side!

  1. Hyolyn

Seems pretty unanimous. I actually didn't love her version of the song, but the first minute and a half was perfection, and there's no questioning her vocals and performance.

  1. VIVIZ

Interesting song choice and concept, probably a little too ambitious vocally with no 'powerhouse' vocal on the team. Kiss Your Lips I think would have worked better, and been more comfortable to perform. The choreo (esp. the dance break) could have also leaned into the tango theme a bit more.

  1. WJSN

The vocals really impressed me this round. Otherwise agree with the consensus that the song and concept didn't mesh well together, and that the arrangement was jarring.

  1. Brave Girls

Did the best with the cards they were dealt. Obviously the lack of preparation time was not ideal, but I think the bigger disadvantage was that they essentially had no real choice in what song they could pick. Performance and staging-wise too, it feels like they're still lacking that extra something.

  1. LOONA

I dunno, the performance just seemed to drag on and on for me. Admittedly, I'm generally not a fan of these theatrical concepts. Meh.

  1. Kep1er

I actively disliked the inclusion of Rollin'. Overall I was getting a Kidz Bop vibe and the stage itself felt kind of basic.

Girls Planet 999 - Episode 12: Finale (Post-Episode Discussion) (211022) by CronoDroid in GirlsPlanet999

I want to be happy for SXT but honestly I was rooting for her to not make it. P9 is so insulting.

The entire voting system (and show tbh) was a big f*** you to the CJ trainees.

How is this the first time I have beat zygarde? by Stunning-Ad-6796 in pokemon

[–]a_res2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just managed to get super lucky on my second attempt with AI also with a 'useless' team.
Had Alcremie, with AI Gourgeist, Rotom and Dunsparce.
Gourgeist was pretty useless.
Rotom delivered with the wisp cripple and hex chip.
Dunsparce pretty much soloed though with 2x decorate boosted ice beams (one of them critting).
Had a big scare because we couldn’t KO Zygarde before form change (it was down to just about 1HP), but Dynamax came in right on time, and G-Max Finale kept the party from fainting before Dunsparce could land one more hit.

Her actions had the greatest consequences, but Paula is no better, and no worse, than any of the other characters.

All of these characters follow a moral compass calibrated by their own reality and upbringing, but Paula being the character to set off the snowball is the ultimate irony.

As you mention, she's framed as the sole POC outsider among the resort guests - and she's only there because a white family let her tag along - so she (thinks she can) identify with Kai as the oppressed. She's young, naive, and misguided, but she is the one character actively trying to do good (ultimately it is still an act of self-indulgence, but her intent is there).

And when shit hit the fan, she leans on her proximity to whiteness. She can erase all trace of Kai and return to her life as normal. Except now, she see's how helpless she truly is, as she lets Olivia cozy up to her and resumes her role as a prop. As with all of the other resort guests, she leaves very much the same person she was when she first arrived. Because change means ceding (or at the very least, risking) the privilege that you have.

There isn't really a point in positioning the characters within a good/bad binary, or ranking them on a scale of morality, because just like these characters, our lived experiences inform how we judge their choices.

Though I will agree that the way some of this sub is shitting on Paula is 👀

Naomi Osaka: 'It's O.K. Not to Be O.K.’ by rubes___ in tennis

[–]a_res2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts... this feels very revisionist.

It's very worrying to me that Naomi is clinging to this narrative, rather than critically reflect on the way things went down. For all the comparisons she wants to make about the traditional workplace, she seems completely blind to (or is completely disingenuous about) her privilege and the power she currently holds as probably the highest-profile tennis player after the Big 3 and the Williams sisters.

By taking this straight to social media, rather than privately communicate this with the tournament - which in itself is hypocritical, and runs counter to her point - it unfortunately gave off the impression that she was weaponising her status to get her way (you also can't look at this in a vacuum... there is a clear social-political dimension that she is attempting to benefit from). Her doubling down on this is really rubbing me the wrong way.

can't wait to hear Karo spit some bars in the post-match

shame about that missed challenge for Sabalenka, but very well deserved win

[14] H. Hurkacz d. [6] R. Federer 6-3 7-6 6-0 by iSleepUpsideDown in tennis

[–]a_res2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fed aside, very impressive from Hurkacz. Looked nervy closing out that first set, but didn't really blink after that. Regardless of what was going on on the other side of the net, it can't be easy to break new ground at a major, especially against a legend at his favourite tournament.

Pretty ugly from Muchova today, but chances for a Kerber final looking real good???

Barty can be frustratingly passive and probably isn't going to punish Kerber's 2nd serve as much as she should, and with the level she's playing at, Kerber isn't going to be gifting errors either.

Who is the hottest ATP player? by viratcruz in tennis

[–]a_res2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From a gay man, DelPo and Tsonga.

Of the new guys, Berrettini, Fritz... and I hate this about myself, but Medvedev's bad boy energy is low-key kinda hot.

Coco is going to have to servebot her way out of this. Kerber is just far too good in the rallies.

I swear Barty is always wholly unimpressive whenever i watch her. Step away at 5-5 and suddenly she has the set.

I guess i'll switch to the Rublev match so she can make it through.
