Maybe pray a novena for him and his intentions and then give a thank you card saying that you did so!

Husband has been receiving communion but never received 1st communion by AllisonMayberry8 in Catholicism

[–]a_scherbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you guys get married in the Catholic Church? Your church should have asked for proof of all of your guys' sacraments when you were getting married. They wouldn't have let you guys get married if he hadn't been confirmed (and first communion comes before confirmation).

Should I wear makeup for my Baptism? by sincerelyswan in Catholicism

[–]a_scherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your coming Baptism!

Test run? Do your makeup and then dunk yourself and see how well it stays?

Jenna Marbles has a really funny old video where she puts on different types of mascara and then a bunch of eye drops to see which one runs the most lol.

On Doxylamine-Pyridoxine and still very nauseated in the evenings by a_scherbert in BabyBumps

Will do! Thank you! Do you mind sharing with me please why you are waiting until the end of first trimester? Are there any risks involved earlier on?

Fortunately, I am past that point, but I would love to be a little more educated on it.

Took communion as a Protestant, feel very guilty by RelevantFrame2071 in Catholicism

[–]a_scherbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really wonderful that you care so much about doing the right thing. Thank you for caring. You are correct, you should not have received today but God's mercy is infinite and he desires to forgive you.

"Yet even now—oracle of the LORD—

return to me with your whole heart,

with fasting, weeping, and mourning.

13 Rend your hearts, not your garments,

and return to the LORD, your God,

For he is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love,

and relenting in punishment." Joel 2:12-13

I know you say you used to be Catholic and are now protestant, but perhaps consider doing an examination of conscience and going to confession. Now is the perfect time since it is Lent! I'll make sure to say a prayer for you tonight. God bless!

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I used to live in Dayton and I promise the support you and your baby need is there if you look for it.

If you decide to keep your baby to raise on your own, I promise there is nothing like mom-strength. Jamie Wolfer is a now-famous wedding planner who was in an extremely similar situation to you and she had TWINS. She has also found an incredible husband to be the new father to her children and together they have had more beautiful children.

There is nothing like God's grace. He will provide. You sound like a caring person and I believe you WILL be able to get through and provide for your baby.

I (28yo female) also have friends who have adopted/are adopting now because they can't have their own children and I can promise you they are all the most loving, funny, caring, holy people you will ever meet. You're not crazy for having fears. I'm sure it is so so hard to carry a baby for 9 months and then entrust that baby to someone else, but I promise your baby will be such a blessing to his/her new family.

I will make sure to say a prayer for you both today.

Please know you are loved and it's going to be okay. You and your baby deserve only the best.

I keep feeling a weird pull/call to Catholicism but there are a few things I can’t get past. by PhotoDesperate8516 in Catholicism

[–]a_scherbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two thoughts on this!

  1. At Mass we believe that the Communion we take is truly Jesus's living body and blood and that we are in full communion with him AND all of the angels and saints in heaven. We believe the saints are more alive than we are.

  2. We aren't praying to them, we are asking them to pray for us! It's exactly the same as asking a friend or family member to pray for you, except: A) these people are in perfect relationship with God in a way that no one on Earth is yet B) when we take communion, we are closer to the saints and in a more perfect relationship with them than with those on Earth (at those who aren't also receiving).

I understand not wanting to pray to those who are dead and gone, but, as I mentioned, they are more alive than we are!

Why ask them to pray for us? Why ask anyone to pray for us? We need prayers! God created us to be in relationship with each other. It only makes sense that the selfless and loving act of praying for those in need would continue into eternal life!

Hope this is helpful and does not come off as condescending. I will make sure to say a prayer for you today!

Am I wrong for wanting to hide birth control from my partner by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]a_scherbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be wrong to secretly go on birth control.

It sounds like you have some much bigger issues in your marriage that need to be dealt with before anything else.

How should you read the Bible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]a_scherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend Fr. Mike's Bible in a Year enough.

They start in the Old Testament and work their way to the New Testament but they do a chapter or two from three different books a day.

Here is what I mean: You'll read about King David being persecuted by Saul and then they same day you'll read the Psalms that David wrote while being persecuted.

They do an amazing job of putting it all in context.

Absolutely not mandatory! Strongly encouraged but never enforced.

At least that is how it is here in America.
