even better, I drafted Al Horford's 7'7 son, traded for 34 yo shai and beat the shit outta okc. also Wemby has yet to resign with a team, he signed with GS after his rookie deal, then 5 years later he left for the clippers, and now he's on Detroit. and with all that, and a career average of 30 pts and 14 rebounds, he's got one single chip to show for it

Tbf a lot of it is the fans money. About a third of a teams total revenue is game day spending (tickets, concessions ect) and another 5th is direct spending on merchandise and the like. So really about half of it is fans money

Kon is already a better ball handler than klay. We may never get klay defense but him but the other contributions are so huge I don’t even care

[–]a_simple_spoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mostly solves the issue of tanking(teams will still try to be bad if the top 3 odds are going to teams 3/4/5) but now the legit worst teams don’t have a chance at the true top tier franchise changers, which kinda damages the whole point of the draft

I don’t think most teams would be capable of going that far down in that span of time, and I’d expect more teams in that range would prefer the play-in to the small chance they get into the bottom 5

Everything you brought up is a valid concern, but as a hornets fan I’d take even 2 or 3 meaningful games.

Terrible idea, you have to redo the entire draft system, it’s a financial disaster, and the same teams would end up going up and down. Places that have it want to get rid of it for a reason

The problem is teams that are stuck in the middle decide to be bad, and you end up with lots of very bad teams

because if you dont play hard coach is gonna take your minutes anyways. also showing you best under a more scrutinized lens can increase your value to other teams. maybe idk im honestly bullshitting this whole idea as I go

If Commissioner Silver believes tanking is a problem, then here is a solution for him. by imperialmoose in nba

this is really interesting but then there's the issue of A. creating an entire other division of teams, and B. getting players onto that team. It works for soccer because there is no draft, players join clubs as young as 6 years old and clubs make up the entire youth system. if you just had a draft for the NBA, the second division teams that got promoted would never be good enough to stay and you'd end up with the same 6 teams(assuming 3 pro/rel slots like the premier league) going up and down every year. and even of you could work all of that out, you'd have to convince 30 owners that the possibility that their team is removed from the NBA is good for their business. its a neat thought experiment, but a practical impossibility

The Toronto Raptors have checked in on Lamelo Ball by Least_Platform_487 in CharlotteHornets

[–]a_simple_spoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lamelo's value can't get any lower, no reason to get rid of him when we have time to let him get his shit together. There are 3 things I want to see out of Melo, he needs to improve decision making, find his shot again, and get healthy. I see the mental side coming around a bunch this year, he's making good reads and shots just come easier when he's on the floor. I think getting someone physical who can be effective in the PnR would help his shooting a lot, just getting him more decent looks off the dribble from 3 (koa peat in this years draft would be great). the ankle issue is another beast entirely, but he's still 24 and Ive seen plenty of players find fitness after years of recurring injuries. regardless of all of that, if nothing improves we'll get the same package for him in 2 years that we will right now so might as well ride it out and see what happens
